Just finished reading "Animals In Translation" by Temple Grandin. She is a woman with autism who earned her PhD and who designs humane animal environments and slaughterhouses. She beleives that she interprets the world, like animals may do, in pictures rather than words. Having human intellect and speech, she is able to relate how she believes animals think and feel about the world and hers is a fascinating book with some brilliant insights.
I think almost anyone would enjoy this book but animal lovers and/or anyone who is interested in autism will probably be wowed by it. After reading it, you may no longer think that your dog or cat (or bird or pig or lizard) acts "just like a human" and will more likely start to think that maybe we humans act just like animals instead.
Enjoy!

GOOD MORNING LONE STAR RED,
IT'S BEEN AWHILE SINCE I'VE BEEN IN THE SITE AS I'VE BEEN SO BUSY WITH WORK.
I SAW AN INTERVIEW WITH TEMPLE GRANDIN, AND WHAT A WONDEROUS WOMEN SHE IS!!
I FORGOT ALL ABOUT THE BOOK UNTIL YOU MENTIONED IT. I WILL WRITE IT DOWN AND WHEN I FINISH THE CHRIS KENNEDY BOOK I'M READING, THEN I'LL GO LOOKING AT THE LIBRARY FOR IT.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR RECOMMENDING THIS BOOK AND YOUR INPUT.

Well, I finally finished this book & it SUCKED!! It took forever to build up & then it totally lets you down at the end. What a waste
I do NOT recommend it. Dean Koontz's earlier books were much better. Now I've started reading John Saul's new paperback, "A Perfect Nightmare." Now THAT kicks some butt - his stuff is always good! _________________ J'attends l'amour qui m'attend (I wait upon the love that waits for me) |

At present, I am reading a book called "Mercy, Mercy Me" about Marvin Gaye. He was a tormented soul, sad to say. What a waste... May his soul rest in peace..

Welcome back to the forum, Martha!! I liked Koontz's older books, but his new stuff is just so boring. The book by John Saul that I'm reading is AMAZING - it's fast-paced & nice & scary I highly recommend it. _________________ J'attends l'amour qui m'attend (I wait upon the love that waits for me) |

Howdy all...
Hmm.. trying to describe "Mercy, Mercy Me" in a few short words would be tough. Marvin Gaye was a tormented man -- yes, his father was evil - used religion to "hide" behind his sadistic behaviors toward his children (Marvin and his brother and sister were regularly, severely beaten by Marvin Sr.) He was an extremely talented man - very insightful. Unfortunately, he never sought help in dealing with the life he had being raised by a "mean" Pentecostal minister. Had he done so, he might have conquered, or at least dealt with his "demons" and would still be here today.... He, like so many, thought that counseling was a sign of weakness, etc. Hopefully his children won't follow in his footsteps, in that respect... how sad for them
Now, I'm reading about Motown -- Berry Gordy, etc., etc. I'm at the point in the book where it's the early 1960's and things are starting to "get rolling." "Motown - Music, Money, Sex and Power." Interesting so far.

Just started an oldie but goodie - "Bright Lights, Big City" by James McIrney. This book was made into the movie by the same name that starred Michael J. Fox. _________________ J'attends l'amour qui m'attend (I wait upon the love that waits for me) |

FOR MS. BLUE ANGEL,
I CAN'T REMEMBER THE TITLE OF THIS PARTICULAR ZOLA STORY.
IT'S ABOUT THE MARRIED WOMEN WHO FALLS IN LOVE WITH HER HUSBAND FRIEND, THEY DECIDE TO KILL THE HUSBAND IN THE ROWBOAT AND ARE HUNTED BY HIS SOUL AND FINIALLY BREAK UP.
I LIKE THE BIO OF ZOLA TOO. _________________ FONDLY, MARTHA JEAN |
