Eine Information vom 22.03.06 sorgt bei White Stripes-Fans für Aufregung.
Jack White hat mit Brendan Benson eine neue Band ins Leben gerufen.
"White Stripes"-Frontmann Jack White hat eine Zweitband gegründet. Wie das "Rolling Stone"-Magazin berichtet, hat er zusammen mit Brendan Benson die Indie-Band "Raconteurs" ins Leben gerufen. Dabei handele es sich allerdings nicht um ein Duo wie bei den "White Stripes".
Auf das Ergebnis bin ich sehhhhhhhhhhhhhhr gespannt!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jetzt musste ich erst mal ein bisschen recherchieren ;-)
Folgendes habe ich herausgefunden:
- The Raconteurs wurden im Jahr 2005 gegründet und veröffentlichte Anfang Februar 2006 ihre erste Single "Store Bought Bones" in limitierter Auflage auf 7" Vinyl. Das Album "Broken Boy Soldier" folgt im Mai 2006.
- Dass Jack White und Brendan Benson gute Freunde sind ist ein offenes Geheimnis. Bereits 2002 fand sich Bensons Song "Always Be Good To Me" als Coverversion auf der B-Seite zur Single "Seven Nation Army"
- Nebenbei nimmt er mit seinem Freund Jack 2005 ein Album auf, von dem der White Stripes-Frontmann im NME tönt, es handele sich dabei um Detroits Antwort auf "Nirvana". Benson hingegen findet, es klänge nach einer Mischung aus Deep Purple und Cat Stevens.

Und hier wird diese Band sogar mit Zep (und Robert) verglichen...man darf gespannt sein...

Jack White is taking a break from The White Stripes to pursue a side-project, a band called The Raconteurs. Rather than his customary accomplice, Meg White, banging her drum- kit in the background, he now has a full group of musicians accompanying him. Is it a vanity project? This date, one of the first The Raconteurs have played live, suggested not: the songs they debuted from their forthcoming album were fleshed-out and sturdy, though they lacked the spark of The White Stripes.
White’s co-leader in The Raconteurs is Brendan Benson, a singer-songwriter crony from his hometown, Detroit. Both sang vocals and played guitar, White soloing with typical ferocity and shrieking like Robert Plant, Benson playing with restraint and proving the more anonymous of the pair. The music, backward- looking though less archival than The White Stripes, ranged from Led Zep-style blues-rock to a charming acoustic number reminiscent of Blood on the Tracks-era Dylan.
The band, however, did not cohere as successfully The White Stripes, whose yin-yang, boy-girl, red-and- white uniformed equilibrium is a thing of rare genius. The problem with The Raconteurs is the mismatch of styles that White and Benson bring to the band, Benson’s taste for tuneful power-pop rubbing up against White’s gothic blues-punk. Although it worked on certain songs, others such as the single “Steady, As She Goes” settled into a pop- punk compromise that reminded me uncomfortably of Green Day.
It did not help that Benson’s somewhat bland vocals were apt to be swamped by White’s melodramatic singing, nor that the band, White excepted, were static and nondescript-looking. The Raconteurs are a much more solid, credible proposition than most spin- off projects, but unlike The White Stripes they lack a punch line.

Für mich als White Stripes Anhänger sind die auch interessant, obwohl ich anfangs nicht viel erwartet hab. Aber das Debut konnte mich voll und ganz überzeugen. Gehörten neben Wolfmother zu den Newcomern des letzten Jahres. Und White & Co arbeiten bereits an neuem Material. Leider bleiben vorerst weitere White Stripes Alben aufgeschoben.
