hello everyone
some of you already know this and some of you don't
but my grandmother is very ill
she started to have dementia last year but since this month she started to really forget things and ppl even her 2nd husband who she lives with for over 25 years ,she said : what's that strange guy doing here ,she didn't even recognised her house ,she told us we had changed eveyrthing
she soemtimes spoke with a childish voice and also acted childish so she is really re-living her childhood in a way
wel and since this week it's getting worse and worse very rapid
since last night ,my grandmother doesn't speak anymore ,she can't get up anymore ,she doens't see much anymore ,she keeps on holding ppl's hands ,she keeps on grabbing you
she calls for the ppl who have died many years ago like her Mother and her 1st husband
the doc told my ants to call the entire family ,so she is dying ,that's obvious
she also have a fever at this moment
we all just don't get how it could be so rapid ,ya know?
it all seemed so unreal ,i saw her at the beginning of the week and seh only spoke when you asked her something ,she didn't start a conversation on her own and she mixed up a lot of things but we still had fun togetehr ,made jokes and even talked about tv-shows , :D
and now she only stares and smiles when she sees someone she recognises :cry:
i didn't want to go to her cause i wanted to remember her the way she was last wednesday
but i was searching for someone and that person was in my grandmothers room and i went in and saw her .
wel all i can say is that i was agressive ,cause i didn't wnat to see her but i saw her cause everyone stepped aside and 1 of my ants wanted to grab me and pull me to her ,and said ,it's ok
and i shook my head and said softly no ,i don't wnat to and i went out again
wel everyone asked me why i looked angry .
i didn't reply ,but i know why
now i still see her looking like that ,the way she is laying in her bed
my sister did went in a lot ,which i think is really good of her
for me it's just to painfull ,it brings back to many memories of my other grandparents who died almost 5 years ago .
wel i just talked and talked .
man ,way to much !!!!
sorry girls for all this sad stuff
i just had to tell you all ,for when i won't be online much and when i speak different
and this also means i probebly ( wel am almost curtain) that i won't be able to go to the festival in Germany
i wa slooking forward to it ,but i already told Anne that i had this feeling i wasn't able to go
Anne had helped me to get rid of that awfull feeling but now it shows the feeling was a right feeling :cry:
wel i'll be meeting her another time ,someday :)
wel i do wish you all a Great Week !!!!
and hope you will all be praying for my grandmother ,that she won't be in much pain

That is awful girl. I couldn't imagine that happening to one of my relatives, or them not recognising me. I hope things get better soon. :cry:

Prayers are going up for you - I know exactly what you are going through - my grandmother was the same way there at the end.
I also have a couple of prayer requests.
A friend of mine's husbandy died yesterday from cancer.
A student in our Bible Study Group - her brother was kidnapped (can't say much about it now)
Also please pray that my beloved Snoopy will get to come home. Took him in this am because they had to do his labs (he has them done every six months because he's on pheonobarbtol) well he's not been himself this weekend and when I took him in today - they kept him. The dr. said I could pick him up this afternoon - they are just wanting to make sure nothing out of the ordinary is going on with him and if they may need to change his meds (he's been seizing somewhat)
It's not been a good day. Going to go grab a bit to eat. Back shortly.

I don't know what is going on Anne - but it's scary. My heart just goes out to Debbie (over her husbands death) even though we knew eventually he would die - it still doesn't make it easy. Then too Anthony's wife (one of our former students) they have 3 very small children. I pray that they find some sort of cure for it - she decided to take the chemo which gives her a year - maybe by then they'll have a cure - she is fighting it though.
Snoopy on the other hand well even though he's a little overweight - if I do get to bring him home tonight I bet they send him with a restricted diet. I'm just greatful for every day I'm allowed to breath.
I also hope that everyone on here knows if something should happen unexpectedly to me - that I love all of you and I'm so very thank you were brought into my life...yours my sisters and I wouldn't trade you for anything - I just wish we all lived closer.
Many years ago I was told "always let your friends know how much they mean to you because we never know what tomorrow will bring" .

Nancy, you are right. We forget about those "little" things too often. Me too, I´m very grateful for the gift of meeting you all !!! Although we don´t know each other in person, we became kind of family. I would be very sad, if anything bad would happen to each of you ... so you always have to take care of yourself! It´s good to talk to all of you and to know that there will always be someone who will "listen". We really should be more aware of this. So I´m sending all my love to you, my sisters and I want you to know that I do carry you in my heart! A special gift is it to meet Idril once in a while - she lives near by, so it´s possible somehow. But be for sure whenever I´ll make it to the States or to Australia, I´ll stop by !!! LOL Holland ... :twisted: beware! One day, I´ll visit my friend in Berkel-Enschott again !!! :twisted: and then ... who knows :twisted:

One day I hope to make it over to Germany and Austraila - right now with the vet bill I'll have and the taxes I have to pay out - money is going to be tight tight. I went out and got some soup with Linda. Had to eat something even though I did not feel like it...but have to maintain my strength somewhat. I do know they expressed some concern about snoopy weighing 44 lbs when he's only supposed to weigh around 32 lbs.
Just a little over 2 hours to go then I'll be able to pick up my pooch...I hope.

first of all i want to thank you all for Praying for my grandmother
i was hoping your weeks were going better but guess not for all of you ,so ofcourse i'll be praying for those who need it
to Emerald: yes i know you ,everything is in God's hands ,when it is her time it is her time
to Idril: don't feel sorry for me ,i'll be ok and most of my familymembers will be to
everyone dies eventually ,it's ineffedable ( i know i wrote it wrong)
i've grown much stronger because i already lost my 2 other grandparents
but it will hurt to lose my last grandmother as wel
but it hurts more to see her getting worse and worse and see her suffer ,i rather lose her today ( if God wants her with him) than tomorrow ,cause that would mean she wouldn't suffer anymore and she has seen our love for her and she knows she will be missed
the saddest thing is : She wants to get better ,she wants to fight and also she is not being a "grandmotherfigure" anymore ,cause her mind is acting like a little child ,it's her dementia
those are the things that hurt more than her passing away
cause she is 86 y/o
it's a good age ,she has lived long and had a wonderful ,exiting life and have many loving ppl around her
wel this is all for now

I would love to meet all of you guys one day too. You have become an important part of my life. It's just a shame that I didn't join the board sooner, or I could have met those of you in Germany and Holland last year! I visited America in 2002, but I think another trip is on the cards, this time including Canada and Alaska!

i got some really good news ,if i have to believe my grandmothers doctor ,she is 100% healthy again
she had a very big infection in her bladder ,which was so bad that her pi couldn't get out ,but cause of a special katheder ( don't knwo if it's the same in english) it comes out again and she has had a strong medicine for it
but my grandmother hasn't gone to a hospital for making sure it's gone and if she has soemthing else
she still can't stand wel ,she doesn't walk ,she thinks she's a 9 y/o
she sleeps more than all of us combined
so my dad doesn't believe she is healthy and is gonna be alright
same here ,i couldnt'believe
It's a Miracle!!!
still we just want to be sure ,ya know?
cause 1 moment the family had to come cause she was dying ( WHICH IS TRUE CAUSE WITHOUT THE KATHEDER AND MEDICINE THE BLADDER WOULD HAVE WRIPPED APART CAUSE OF THE PRESSURE OF THE FLUID) ,oops sorry for the capslock)
and now she is going to live for years ,only with a different mind cause she has Dementia and has had at least 3 to 5 strokes
but it still is good news and deep down i do believe she is betetr again ,she won't die soon ,but i just don't wnat to hold on to it to much without proof that she is fully healthy ,cause what if it changes like the last time
wel i just wnated to let everyone knwo that you prayers and wishes Did help a lot ,it made the big differance

Oh wow, I'm so happy! Yea, i was praying and see what God can do? That is so great, what a wonderful blessing. I'll continue to pray that everything is going well for her from now on. It's always good to hope for the best and not the worse because miracles do happen. :D

yes i know ,i was so surprised ,but emediatly thanked everyone who prayed for her in my mind that is and promissed myself the first i would do when i got home is to tell this wonderful news and thank everyone for real :D

yeah ,wel tomorrow she is going to live in a nursing home.
her children had spoke about ti before she had the strokes and she said that she wanted to go there. ( which i think she just didn't want to feel like a burden or something ,ya know? so i was against it and told mt thoughts about it to my dad ,cause only the children would decide ,wel they did some research about the nursing home and it's a good palce they say.)
I hope so !!!
but the family still thinsk she won't live really long ,but what can you expect from someone who has had at least 3 to 5 strokes and is 86 y/o
God gave us some extra time to give her and ourselfs last good memories and the change to say goodbye on our own way and show some more of our love for her ,which we are SO Greatfull for
another Thank You to all of you !!!!!!

We have some homes over here in the US that are "assisted living facilities" they are nursing homes with medical staff on call 24/7. It's for those who can do for themselves but need realitevely (sorry can't spell) little care. Some nursing homes are wonderful and the people very lively...then you have those that are not.
I'm glad you are being given more time to spend with her.

yes they have them ehre as wel
,but my grandmother can't get out of bed even ,let alone walk ,or go to the bathroom
so she needs to be taken care of 24/7

There are some nursing homes over here that don't have great reputations, unfortunately, but I'm sure the one your grandmother is going to will be good for her needs. At least you can still go and visit her whenever you like!

i still don't support the choice of my family
my mom almost wnated to take her home with her ,but she can't take care of my grandmother all alone ,cause my mom has back and neck problems
i coudl help half the time ,but still most time she woudl eb all alone with my grandmother ,and most important she is not blood-related ,so she reall7y ahs nothing to say about it
the children made their choice and we just have to make the best of it
it's just hard to do cause i was thaught this:
your parents take care of you for the most part of your life and when it's time for them to eb taken care of you can return the favor
i rememebr that when my dad's fav. uncle was very ill ( just 2 weeks before eh died) his uncle called me to him and made em promiss that whatever hapepnds to my parents that i would never putt them in a home ,but thta I myself would take care of them
ofcourse i promissed it ,cause it is exactly how i feel about it
i can't let my folks to be taken care of by strangers when ti can be done by a loved one
wel sorry for all this talking ,i just had to get it out of my system a bit
hope you girl didn't midn it :(

You make a very good point eddiefever, and I see where you're coming from on this issue. It sounds like you have a very strong sense of family! A lot of people nowadays seem to think that having kids means that you will have somebody to take care of you later in life, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will agree to do it! It is an unfortunate thing, but everybody is their own person and has their own mind, but sadly a lot of people see this situation as a burden and inconvenience on their own lives.

oh this is so true and usually it's one child ending up with the responsibility of taking care of the parent. It's sad but in todays world - it seems like everyone is out there to "take care of number 1".
My mom really agnozed over putting granny in a home but she had slipped into a coma and needed care 24/7 we'd go visit but she was only there two weeks before she passed. Mom just about had a break down because she was the last surviving child. Granny buried her husband and 3 sons before her. Mom lives with me and has for the last year.

ooh my ,your grandmother was a very strong person
and it's Sweet that your mom lives with you
cause you and your family is all she has
i remember that when i was at my grandmothers house and all of a sudden someone said : what if there won't be a room opening soon in 1 of the nursinghomes? ,we can't take care of her for months ( cause the doc said ,that she could live for about 3 to 4 months ,cause eh still wasn't sure if she was healthy again) and i smiled ,we Laughed actually and said with a little bit of sarcasme in my voice: we took care of my mom's mother for months as wel.
wel my niece stopped talking and i saw her stunnishment in her face ,she didn't know what to say to that
my other grandmother(mom's mother) had bene in a coma for 2 and half weeks as wel ,and before that she was sick for 4 months ,right after her husband, my grandfather died
and i'm just happy that the entire family took care of her and each other.
it was the most wonderful thing i ever saw ,the love ,strenght and even the fun we had ,cause we couldn't be sitting with pouting faces ,cause even when ppl are in a coma they can hear ya
besides you got to make every day a happy day ,cause you never knwo when it's your last

yep it was difficult for my mom but it actually made things easier at home - Keri spent a lot of time with her dad (we divorced when she was 2) because Keri did not understand why mom would have these fits and why her "grammy" would not play with her. To watch someone go down hill is terrible but had we known in two short weeks she'd been gone we probably would have kept her at home - I have a lot of fond memories of my granny. She was 97 when she died - the oldest of 8. 4 girls 4 boys and the sad thing is the 3 oldest went within 6 months of each other - granny in May 94, Chester in Dec. 94 and Vassie in May 95. Only 1 great aunt is still living and she's in florida - she was the baby of the family. All of them went in their 90's. Talk about longivity.
