No plans for anymore musicals says Benny news date Jan 2007
05 Jan 07 - No plans for further musicals, says Benny
Former ABBA member Benny Andersson said he and musical partner Bjorn Ulvaeus had no immediate plans to compose a new musical as the Stockholm production of their hit musical Mamma Mia was drawing to a close, reports said Friday.
"We will see. We have no plans about a new one yet, but they may come up," Andersson told the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper.
Over the coming weekend the last performance of Mamma Mia - a musical based on ABBA's music - is to be staged in the Swedish capital.
During the past two years, the musical has attracted some 847,000 visitors in Stockholm. Some 48 performances of Mamma Mia were slated in the west-coast city of Gothenburg during May 9 to June 17. All tickets were sold out.
Andersson, who turned 60 last December, said he was busy recording with his band Benny Anderssons Orkester and was also planning to record the score for a film version of Mamma Mia that would keep him occupied the rest of the year.
Benny stated that he was initially reluctant to set up a musical based on ABBA's music saying he was "proud" over what the group had achieved "and did not want the musical to cast a shadow over that."
After ABBA stopped recording and touring, Andersson and Ulvaeus continued to collaborate and composed the popular musical Chess, Kristina from Duvemåla about Swedes who emigrated to the US in the 1800s and Mamma Mia.
The Kristina New York workshop got a mention in the interview but there are no actual plans to relay as yet.
