    Beginners Shrine guide by Forb
An important aspect of Samurai Legends is Shrines. Many people new to the game complain that Shrines are useless and expensive, others know better. This is supposed to be a guide on how to use shrines effectively, mostly for people who are new to Samurai Legends, therefore I ask for help from everyone who knows how to use shrines – especially the clan KoNL and clan ORD people. While reading this, keep in mind that there is no right, wrong or best way to use shrines. All shrines have their ups and downs. So find out what works best for you and your hero. Now, let’s get down to business.

    What are Shrines?
Shrines are small buildings that take impressions from spawn towers in games like EotA: Twilight and Tides of Blood. You can build them by hiring a peasant. Shrines are always built close to an outpost or a dojo. 4 shrines can be built at one location (I must verify this because it got changed a while ago, is it 4/outpost or dojo?).

    What do they do?
Shrines offer various effects, depending on the type of Shrine chosen. Shrines are mainly an alternative route to victory. The game can last extremely long without shrines, so they are also a part of the gameplay. They have been taken into consideration when balancing towers and building hitpoints. They speed up the game greatly when used. However they also offer more strategy options. They are simple to use and they are often underestimated for that very reason. They all cost 3000 gold and 10 honor. They are abit pricy indeed, however they are worth it. And they emphasize the team play aspect of Samurai Legends. The idea is to pool together all your resources to a single person who builds the shrines then. This way 3000 gold and 10 honor is not too much, it’s almost too little.

    Shrines vs. Items:
People often ask: “Why should I use shrines instead of items?” The answer is simple: they offer more permanent effects. For example, a Katana boosts your damage by 15 and costs 2500 gold. A Shrine of Strength costs 500 extra gold and 10 honor. It offers you an extra Yari Cavalry unit spawned on EVERY – you heard right, EVERY – wave. A Yari Cavalry deals far more damage than the +15 you gain from a Katana. A single hero can do very much, however a Yari Cavalry on every wave can do more. The other important reason is that shrines can attend to a lane that you have no time to baby-sit because you have hunt for heroes or defend another lane. If you carry a Katana around, it will only help defend the lane that you are on. If you build a shrine at the northern lane, you can defend the middle or southern lane. This grants you control of 2 lanes instead of 1. Another point is that a shrine functions as long as it is there. A hero can only fight when alive. A shrine can fill in for a hero while he is reviving.

Next let’s look at what options we have:

There are 6 different shrines that can in my opinion be divided into 2 classes – offensive and alternate:
    - Offensive Shrines:
    - Shrine of Strength
    - Shrine of Night
    - Shrine of Fire
    - Alternative Shrines:
    - Shrine of Wealth
    - Shrine of Merchants
    - Shrine of Calling

    Shrine of Strength:
This is a shrine that spawns an extra Yari Cavalry for the outpost or dojo, which this shrine is built next to. It spawns a normal Yari Cavalry unit. Yari Cavalry are ineffective as single units but powerful in groups. They boast impressive hp and good damage. When a large group is backed up by a Warlord they are possibly the best unit available because they are the units that can survive most nukes. They are often the least used unit because they lack any exceeding qualities. Place Strength shrines on the middle lanes in amounts of 2 or 3.
    Pros & Cons:
    + Strong hp
    + Powerful in groups
    - No Exceeding qualities

    Shrine of Night:
The ever helpful Ninja spawning shrine. Ninjas are Units that deal large damage in melee combat and are able to use the Weak Spot ability. They should be rebalanced a bit, to make them stick apart from the Yari Cavalry more. Weak Spot reduces the target’s armor and grants vision of the target. The ability is useful vs. Yari Cavalry, heroes with high armor, and especially the Ninja hero. It grants sight of the Ninja so he cannot use his Shadow ability to hide. Ninjas are effective when there is at least 1 on every lane. Ninjas are strong, but when they face heavy opposition, they offer the enemy high gold bounty for slaying them.
    Pros & Cons:
    + Weak Spot ability
    + High damage
    - High bounty

    Shrine of Fire:
The newest addition to the shrine family (along with Calling) spawns Elite Archers. Elite Archers boast powerful, long range, fire arrow attacks and are the most effective units at sieging. They have low hp and are therefore most effective when backed up by melee units like Yari Cavalry. They also offer the highest bounty for the enemy who slayed them. Only heroes offer more bounty. For these reason they are often targeted first by skilled players. Fire shrines can be placed on most any lanes.
    Pros & Cons:
    + High damage & Range
    + Excellent siege capabilities
    - Weak
    - Highest bounty

    Shrine of Wealth:
Every itemwhorers dream shrine: extra gold income. The Shrine of Wealth offers all players in the owning team extra gold income. This is very important when the game is expected to be long. A shrine of wealth should always be placed inside the safety of your main base and it should always be the very first shrine built. Late game it can sometimes lose its effectiveness.
    Pros & Cons:
+ Pays itself back and more
+ Effective in many ways: items, future shrines etc.
    - Partial late game uselessness

    Shrine of Merchants:
A shrine that gives players items for free. I don’t mean any items. It only gives healing potions, mana potions and scrolls of teleportation for free. Potions are extremely effective in Samurai Legends, and therefore the shrine of merchants saves a lot of gold. The shrine of merchants is also the only place where you can buy the powerful Elixir of life and Elixir of Wisdom. They are like more powerful versions of regular potions since they heal you immediately and they can be used in combat. However they cost gold and they only have a single charge. The map is also very large, and teleporting around is the best way to move around. That’s where the scrolls of teleportation come in handy. Because the map is very large, it becomes hardly worth the effort to travel back to base everytime you need something at endgame situations. There shrines of merchants show their usefulness by making the trip to main base unnecessary because you can travel to a Shrine on an outpost. However they also lose some effectiveness because of this long traveling. It’s recommended to build these at outposts to save the travelling or use of mules on either Northern or Southern outpost.
    Pros & Cons:
+ Free healing for everyone in the team
+ Effective movement with the cost of itemslots
    - Partial late game uselessness

    Shrine of Calling:
Probably the least used shrine. This is the shrine that offers the most strategy options and is favoured by many clan players, like Lyncor and yours truly. It’s a simple shrine with the function of EotA: Twilight’s “Summon hero” command on keeps and trees. It teleports the hero of the player who used the shrine, to the shrine. What’s the point in using this instead of Teleportation scrolls? There are several. Here’s two of the most important:
    1. It saves item slots compared to scrolls
    2. It is usable by everyone in the team
The Shrine of Calling is every “hunters” best friend. If you build 3 shrines of calling (1 in main base, 1 on both expansions) you can move anywhere with ease and speed. The use of these Shrines is hard to master but once you get good at it you will learn to love it.
    Pros & Cons:
+ Extremely efficient movement around the map
+ Usable by all team members
    - Takes many shrines to be efficient

There you have the 6 different shrines in a nutshell.

Advice on how to use shrines:
It’s always important to build a shrine of wealth first. The shrine of wealth makes it so much easier to build more shrines. Second it’s advised to focus on offensive shrines on either the Northern or Southern outpost. If you manage to take down 1 of your enemies’ expansions, it forces them to defend their main base from that side or your team’s forces will break through. My Shrine Build is usually like this:
    1. Shrine of Wealth in main base
    2. Shrine of Night at North/South outpost (depending on which one is worst defended by the enemy)
    3. Shrine of Fire at same place as number two
    4. Shrine of Fire at same place as numbers two and three
    5. Shrine of Merchants at main base
…from here on it usually is pretty random.

Remember that this was only an example of a build. Ultimately it is totally up to you where to build your shrines. Experiment around, try different combinations and learn what works best for you. I hope this guide has enlightened some of you in the use of Shrines.

Nice guide.Wanted to add if your yumi or warlord and you have litle opposition on south or north lanes u should mass fire archer shrines.
If you are yumi u can just sit back and nuke the hell out of towers while your archers do theyr incredibly effective building damage. And if you are a warlord you can just use Shoguns glory and increase theyr attack speed while the banner will considerebly increase the damage.

wizard, dont forget the ninjas have weekspot. wich is insane wehn it comes to killing a spawn,\. and if you put them in the middle they help whith the hero battles. if you have ever been weekspoted in a intense hero battle then you no what i mean.

Thats why i said "if you have litle opposition" as an not a really threatening hero to worry about.
