    Item Suggestion: Sacred Treasures
The idea of class-specific ultimate items is something very rarely well-implemented in maps, and is usually a terrible idea thrown into the mix by creators who think uber weapons = uber map; however, I feel that with the small number of heroes in SL, it is a viable, balanceable option, and would add to its distinctiveness as an AOS.

Of course, I understand you don't want really godlike stat/damage items in SL, so my idea is to avoid simple stat/damage bonuses and go for less direct benefits like active abilities and passive skills.

With all that said, here are my ideas. The framework is that a hero will purchase a basic item called an Artifact, which is the ultimate item in unrestored form. This will give decent, general bonuses, but will not be cost-effective on its own. He will then need to purchase two upgraders called the Scroll of the Five Elements and the Yin Yang Stone, which unlike other upgraders, will be actual items with their own effects if an Artifact is not present in the inventory (i.e. you can buy them alone and they will appear in your inventory, but will combine if/once an Artifact is present in your inventory). You need both upgraders to form the final item (the Sacred Treasure), but buying a single upgrader for the Artifact will first produce an intermediate item (an Anicent Relic or Flawed Relic, depending on which upgrader it is you bought). Say you're a Ronin, Shinobi or Ninja. Buying an Artifact and a Scroll of the Five Elements will get you a Flawed Blade, and buying a Yin Yang Stone after that will complete the item, giving you Kusanagi. Buying an Artifact and a Yin Yang Stone, on the other hand, will give you an Ancient Sword, and buying a Scroll of the Five Elements after that will complete the Kusanagi. Sounds complicated, but it is really quite simple (to grasp, I mean; I wouldn't know about the coding :P).

(Note: The numbers I give may be a little whack, as it will take a while to think through and rebalance so many items.)

    New Prequisite Items

    -Artifact

(bought from the Shrine of Merchants)
    Cost: 2000 gold, 12 honour

A mysterious object sealed in stone. Though unrestored, its potency is obvious.

    Effect:
    +6 all stats

    -Scrolll of the Five Elements

    (bought from the Black Guard)
    Cost: 3000 gold

A scroll containing the secrets to mastery over the physical world.

    Effect:
    +15% attack speed
    +3 armour

Upgrades the Artifact into a Flawed Relic, or an Ancient Relic into a Sacred Treasure.

    -Yin Yang Stone

    (bought from Hashiba the Fallen)
    Cost: 23 honour

A palm-sized stone, warm to the touch. Holding it is said to bring one's being into balance.

    Effect:
Regenerates 1 extra hitpoint every second. Increases mana regeneration by 50%.
(Active) Replenishes the hero's health by 400 and mana by 250 over 20 seconds. Dispels when attacked.

Upgrades the Artifact into an Ancient Relic, or a Flawed Relic into a Sacred Treasure.

    Flawed Relics
    Total cost: 5000 gold

The idea is that Flawed Relics have had their physical power restored by the Scroll of the Five Elements, but their magical potency has yet to be brought back into balance. As a rule of thumb, Flawed Relics will give rather straightforward offensive or defensive bonuses. Flawed Relics cannot be dropped.

    -Yari Samurai: Flawed Spear

A well-crafted spear in perfect condition, but with its energies in chaos from misuse over the years.

    Effect:
    +18 damage
15% chance to Bash for 1 second (no bonus damage).

    -Yumi Samurai: Flawed Bow

A well-crafted bow in perfect condition, but with its energies in chaos from misuse over the years.

    Effect:
    +18 damage
    +10% attack speed

-Ronin, Shinobi and Ninja: Flawed Blade

A well-crafted sword in perfect condition, but with its energies in chaos from misuse over the years.

    Effect:
    +18 damage
9% chance to deal a 1.75x Critical Strike.

    -Warlord: Flawed Mirror

A beautiful mirror in perfect condition, but with its energies in chaos from misuse over the years.

    Effect:
    20% Evasion against normal attacks.

    -Kunoichi: Flawed Stone

A precious stone in perfect condition, but with its energies in chaos from misuse over the years.

    Effect:
15% Evasion against normal attacks and spells.

-No Dachi Samurai: Flawed Long Sword
A well-crafted long sword in perfect condition, but with its energies in chaos from misuse over the years.

    Effect:
    +30 damage

    Ancient Relics
Total cost: 2000 gold, 35 honour

Ancient Relics have had their spiritual or occult powers restored by the Ying Yang Stone, but their physical strength remains dulled by the passage of time. As a rule of thumb, Ancient Relics will give bonuses that benefit the hero less directly as far as combat is concerned. Ancient Relics cannot be dropped.

    -Yari Samurai: Ancient Spear

A spear imbued with mystical powers, but weakened by the years.

    Effect:
Regenerates 7 extra HP per second.

    -Yumi Samurai: Ancient Bow

A bow imbued with mystical powers, but weakened by the years.

    Effect:
    Increases movement speed by 25.

-Ronin, Shinobi and Ninja: Ancient Blade

A sword imbued with mystical powers, but tarnished by the years.

    Effect:
15% chance to increase movement speed by 35 for 5 seconds every time the hero attacks.

    -Warlord: Ancient Mirror

A mirror imbued with mystical powers, but weakened by the years.

    Effect:
    +400 mana
    Increases mana regeneration by 50%.

    -Kunoichi: Ancient Stone

A precious stone imbued with mystical powers, but weakened by the years.

    Effect:
    Increases mana regeneration by 150%.

-No Dachi Samurai: Ancient Long Sword
A long sword imbued with mystical powers, but tarnished by the years.

    Effect:
Damage received from normal attacks is reduced by 13.

    Sacred Treasures
Total cost: 5000 gold, 35 honour

These are the mythic weapons and artifacts in their wholly restored forms. As a rule of thumb, they will give decent stat/damage bonuses, but their usefulness will come mainly from passive and active skills. Sacred Treasures cannot be dropped.

    -Yari Samurai: Tonbogiri

Crafted by the famed weaponsmith Masamune, Tonbogiri grants its wielder superhuman regeneration and strength. It is said that Tonbogiri's original owner, the great general Honda Tadakatsu, went through one hundred battles without a single scar to show for it.

    Effect:
    +20 damage
    +10 Strength
15% chance to trigger Rejuvenation (heals 500 health over 15 seconds, does not dispel on attack) each time the Yari Samurai takes damage. Rejuvenation cannot trigger again until the duration is over.

    -Yumi Samurai: Yumi no Inahime

The nameless bow of the princess Ina, daughter of the great general Honda Tadakatsu. Ina once drove off Sanada Nobushige, the mightiest warrior of the age, with a single arrow from this bow. It is said to never miss, and its arrows seek out the enemy's weak points with an uncanny intelligence.

    Effect:
    +18 agility
Attacks made by the Yumi Samurai will never miss.
20% chance to hit a target's weak point, dealing 30 bonus damage. Each time the target attacks, uses an ability or moves 50 units or less, it will receive an additional 20 damage. 4 second duration.

    -Ronin, Shinobi and Ninja: Kusanagi

Kusanagi is a divine weapon retrieved by the god Susano-o from the tail of the hydra Orochi. Known variously as Grasscutter and the Sword of the Snake, the bearer of Kusanagi becomes incredibly agile and gains mastery over the winds.

    Effect:
    +22 Agility
Every time the hero attacks, he is moved into contact with the target.
(Active) Knocks back all enemies within a 500 radius of the hero to the edge of that radius.

[Further explanation: You know Timewalk, on the Faceless Void? That's the effect and animation I have in mind, without the slow of course, activating every time the hero attacks.

For the active, the knockback would be 500 minus the distance between the unit and the hero.]

    -Warlord: Yata no kagami

When the goddess Amaterasu went into hiding in a cave, removing all light from the world, this mystical mirror was used to lure her out. Yata no Kagami gives its bearer unparalled magical might and, used on a human opponent, induces an almost unbreakable trance.

    Effect:
    +25 Intelligence
(Active) Enchants the target unit, causing it to move toward the Warlord for 5 seconds. The enchantment ends when the unit comes within 100 range of the hero. Cast range of 800.

    -Kunoichi: Sesshoseki

The dreaded Sesshoseki, or murder stone, is the petrified soul of the Lady Tamamo, a court beauty revealed to be a malicious fox spirit and slain by the great hunter Miura-nosuke. It grants the bearer unearthly grace and the ability to direct Tamamo's hatred at an enemy, harming oneself in the process.

    Effect:
22% Evasion against normal attacks and spells.
(Active) Inflicts a deadly curse on the target unit, slowing by 30% and dealing 50 damage per second for 7 seconds. The Kunoichi loses 10% of her current HP upon casting. Cast range of 300.

    -No Dachi Samurai: Muramasa

An unnamed creation of the acclaimed swordsmith Muramasa, this weapon is infamous for its unquenchable thirst for blood. Once it has shed the blood of an enemy, each successive attack it deals will strike with increasing force.

    Effect:
    +25 damage
    +10% attack speed
Every time the No Dachi Samurai attacks a unit, 18 damage is added to the next attack on the same target. Orb Effect.

    -

Note that the items for the Kunoichi are based on the assumption that she will be implemented as it exists on my suggestion thread, and that the items for the No Dachi Samurai are based on the assumption that he will have high damage output but relatively low HP for a Strength hero (i.e. he will be a Strength damage dealer like DotA's Slithereen Guard rather than a hardcore tanker like the Centaur), and that he will be ranged like the Yari (perhaps 150), so the effect of Muramasa, which is essentially Fury Swipes, can work.

Wow really like the idea of flawed and ancient relics :D

But why make the items only available for one class? If it is only available for one class then it will be mostly the best item for that one hero.
There would be much more choices what item to go for if everybody could use/create them.
Or do you think they would be imba on certain heroes?

    Yay. :)

Quote: But why make the items only available for one class? If it is only available for one class then it will be mostly the best item for that one hero.

It doesn't have to be that way. What would you rather have, a super-useful ability/stats boost or the killing power of two Jadeblades? I don't intend for attaining a Sacred Treasure to be the one obvious build for all heroes.

Quote: There would be much more choices what item to go for if everybody could use/create them.
Or do you think they would be imba on certain heroes?

Yeah, pretty much. It would really constrain the sorts of abilities you could put on them--Muramasa on the Yumi Samurai would be awfully imba, and so would Sesshoseki on the Yari, but they would be fine on the heroes I have currently assigned them to. If any hero could buy any Sacred Treasure or Relic, the benefits they give would have to be quite basic and boring to be balanceable.

It's also for flavour. I'm fine with generic stat items like Latona or whatever going on any hero, but it just feels wrong to me for archers to be running around with the legendary Kusanagi, or a swordsman to use Tonbogiri.

Edited to add flavour text for the Sacred Treasures, among other things.

I'm in the process of finding icons for these items. Do note that for the Kusanagi, the swords in the icons I chose do not appear 'Japanese'; this is intentional, as Kusanagi would have been a straight-edged sword and not a katana or whatever.

Done, except for the long sword icons. Finding suitable icons for those is driving me mad.

Rereading what I've written, I realise that the balance of some of those items is really poor; I will be editing them shortly.

Yes this looks very promising. But this won`t be in for the next version, want to bring out a new version with assistance system, fixed bugs, balancing and new heroes first.
Japanese themed icons are quite hard to find, maybe there are some in WoW?

    Re: Item Suggestion: Sacred Treasures

    tegeus-Cromis - 02.06.2006, 17:27

Yes, I did not expect them to be introduced so soon (if at all); you have so much on your plate already. :)

Perhaps it would be easier to just find someone willing to custom make the necessary icons? I'm sure it cannot be that difficult.

Don´t think there is anybody who would help, because the items should have the same style as the others.

Extra items are fine, but limit the amount you are adding. Make added items unique and fairly powerful, but expensive enough that you don't want to get more than one or possibly two if you are going to build shrines too.

When it comes down to it, I honestly don't think people will pay much attention. Icons are quite small. :P

5000 gold, 30 honour is quite expensive enough IMHO.

And though I forgot to mention it, you cannot have more than one Sacred Treasure.

Did a bit of balancing, mostly buffs. Also increased the final honour cost by another 5 in light of the fact that honour will be a bit easier to get in the next version, what with tower kills and the assistance system.
