I´m so proud to let you know, that the screening of ITW started very successful. The first night I was disappointed, because there were only a few teens and no adults at all, but after the first episode these teens were so fascinated and wanted to learn more. Since then they showed up every night and I´m pretty much sure that they will come again tomorrow and on Wednesday and Thursday. I´m already sad that we will be done this week, because it was so interesting talking to these young Germans who had no idea that there are still Indians living on this earth !!! For them ITW is very helpful to understand Native American culture and history and they see the story in a different way now ... that´s good and at this point I really feel grateful that Spielberg made this movie although it´s still not the whole truth - but at least a big part of it.
Our teens asked me, how ndn people do live today and so the next movie I´m gonna show to them will be a "modern" one. I tried to tell them that most of the young Natives are just like them: hanging out with friends, listening to good movies and having parties - just the conditions are a bit different.
It was interesting to see that a young guy, who´s parents are from the Lebanon, couldn´t understand that there is still racism against Native people in the USA and Canada. He grew up in Germany and never really had problems - although he looks different to the German teens - he has black hair and pretty dark skin. And he was looking at me with his dark eyes and really didn´t understand that white Americans still can´t respect Native Americans and their rights. Most of the young people didn´t expect it to be like that and so I see a need for more information and the people from the youthcenter and I agreed that it was a good idea to start this project. In November we will have another meeting to introduce our concept to the officials of the office for youth-affairs in my area and we hope to get some extra money to invite some of my Native American friends to come over to Germany and introduce themselves to our youth.
Well, I just wanted to let you know and ask you to wish me luck !!! PLEASE !!! I´m looking forward to tomorrow night and hope I need to answer lots of questions again ... that´s always a sign of interest !

Usually I hate people crying at the movies, but this time I was happy that the people were able to cry - because they felt the pain and the anger ... it was hard for me not to cry. No more questions after episode 4 - it was understood !!! That´s good! I wonder how they gonna react tomorrow. I know exactly how I will react at the end of episode 6 ... :cry:
I´ve seen that scene like a thousend times, but it still can make me cry !!!
now after 4 episodes the young people love to do the smudge btw ...

Especially after I´ve been reading this article to them about what happened after the massacre ... there won´t be much of a discussion, I just want to read it to them and leave it like this ... no more words needed. I hope I´ll be strong enough to read it without crying, because usually this article makes me cry. ( :cry: )

ok- I did it - I cried !!! Damn it - I tried so hard not to cry but to see this "Wounded Knee"-scene and then reading the article about what happened afterwords to the wounded people and stuff made me shivering and cry ... I felt ashamed for it, but then looking at the girl´s eyes crying with me and the boys starring strict at one point made me feel "better". Nobody was talking - they were just listening and so we ended up in silence ! They´ve heard of Wounded Knee before, but they had no idea at all what really happened.
Christian from the youthcenter then started talking about that it was the right decision do this thing and that he is VERY grateful that I shared my experiences and showed "Into the West" to them, plus telling so much about Native Americans. Everybody started clapping their hands and said something like "yeah, it was - wonderful - great!" - it was a very embarrassing moment for me - I hate to be in the spotlight, but it was for a good cause.
I felt so sick in my stomach all day long and couldn´t even eat or drink today, but now I feel good again. I feel like I did something special and everybody asked me when we plan on our next event. I made them interested and that´s what I wanted to do. I wanted them to stop thinking "bad" about me - me the one, who´s dealing with Indians ... it had a bad taste sometimes - but I guess now they understand why I´m doing all this and they felt my anger and my ambitions to try to do a better ... and they want to help! So, I can say that I can be kind of proud of myself and I will surely have nice dreams tonight.
I know that I´m not the only one who´s doing a good job back here in Germany, but I know for sure that I´m the only one in my town and I made people showing their interest in NA culture and now they want to learn !
So I´m saying good-night to everybody with the words I choose as the headline of my workshops:

You really did a great job. I watched the first three episodes with you and allthough we laughed a bit (just a little bit :roll: :roll: :roll: ) I got the feeling, that what you are doing is great. You're informed and people can be sure that you're not telling bs. Showing ITW was the best you could do to show them at least a bit of the amrican history, allthough it's only half of what really happened. And reading this article to them to show what happened to the victims (is victims the right word here? Can't find my dictonary and I'm still half-asleep) of Wounded Knee. And ITW maybe helps them to understand why there is still so much hatred on both sites (NA and whites). I'm really proud of you and I'm proud to knwo you, because what you're doing is just great and helpful and...well... good. You're a real role-model for others!
