What other hobbies do you have?
OK, I'm starting a new topic here.
What else do you like to do in your free time when you're neither listening to Simply Red nor sitting in front of your PC??? Power-Shopping? White-water rafting? Tatting? Extreme-Ironing? Gardening? ...
Gina From Da Block - 21.04.2006, 17:39
Nice topic, Michi!!
I like to sing, play drums, play tennis, write poetry/stories & read horror novels, not to mention bike riding & going to the movies. Geez....no wonder I'm so tired!!! :D :P

Hobbies
Good topic idea Michi!!! :D That Extreme Ironing Web Site is a hoot!!!
OK I've got a few. I'm into all sorts of Paper Crafts from Scrapbooking to Card Making. Currently I’m starting to work on a Scrapbook of all the vacations I went on over the past few years. It’s a fun but expensive hobby because I keep buying all sorts of rubber stamps, inks, pens, die cuts, paper, tools, stickers etc. It’s an addiction!!!!! LOL!!! I love to make my own cards, gift tags and wrapping paper and give them to family & friends. They really love it when they get a homeade card instead of a card from a store. It’s one of my favorite things to do because I can really relax & enjoy myself when I working on my paper craft projects. :-D
I also love to Garden, cook, go hiking, and of course SHOPPING for anything…food, clothes, cd’s dvd’s, cosmetics, books so on & so on!!!!! Now this is my true addiction!!!
SMILES :)

Nice topic, Michi! And that Extreme Ironing--what a riot!!! You find the craziest, most fun stuff. :D
Spare time--erm, what is that? *laughs* Main hobby right now is bass playing--and I'm feeling enough confidence in it to get what the boys over at TalkBass call GAS--Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Would like to, by the end of the year, maybe, get a Jazz bass (my current is a Precision--long story as to the differences and why one would want both!), and maybe in a couple of years snag a fretless and try learning that.
Also enjoy reading, beach bummin', the occasional crossword or jigsaw puzzle. a few video games, interior decorating, and, like any female, SHOPPING. Weaknesses are used CD shops, music supply stores, bookstores, craft stores, home furnishings places--just dropped $50 on a wall clock at Bed Bath & Beyond that I'd been eyeballing for a year. (It's spring. I'm getting the "refresh the abode" bug.)

What other hobbies do you have?
Hi,
Good subject Michi, I was only thinking a few days ago about what other hobbies some of us have so it's interesting to see your post. It's great to know that some are musically gifted, sadly not me, my only attempt at music was recorder classes at Junior school. As for extreme sports, no way Jose, I hate lifts - elevators for those of you on the other side of the pond - the occasional game of 10-pin bowling is about my limit when it comes to sport. My hobbies are keeping in touch with SR friends (although this involves the PC and you asked for things away from the PC). I mostly do handicrafts - knitting, crochet and have recently taken up cross stitch embroidery. I joined a few forums for hints and tips on improving, so set up an on-line photo album as most members have, to display work done. (click www at the end of my post if you're interested in viewing the albums). Just basic level skills really but friends tell me I'm better than I think I am. I've dabbled with card making but I'm not very good so gave it up. Think that's about it really.
simplymichi - 24.04.2006, 16:48
Wow, you're all absolutely creative! I'm just too lazy for all of that  Really don't have enough patience for handicrafts and sport is a foreign word to me - what does that mean?!
So, what do I do when I'm not online?!
My favourite hobby is playing the saxophone. I really enjoy it but unfortunately I tend to do other things instead (like watching TV 'till I fall asleep). I resolve to practice my saxophone a lil more :-D and I hope I'll do so!
And then there are other things I like to do which are hobbies only in the broadest sense:
for example sitting in a sunny place in the garden, listening the birds singing while eating ice cream 8) ... or eating chocolate (YES, I am a chocoholic!) ... or meeting with friends.
Dubwise - 24.04.2006, 21:49

Actually, I do have many hobbies, all on-going in various stages of almost being complete. Jewelry making, purse design, power shopping at antique shows for vintage jewelry, accessories, etc.
Love to cook, set an extravagant table setting with exotic flower arrangements and candles, mood music, fine wine, sinful desserts, after dinner drinks and great guests to share it all.
Or a beer and a hot dog and big pretzel, if that turns you on more...
Mark will tap the keg just for you.
So everyone, C'mon over right now....
Love,
Lin xx

As some of you know I play a lot of netball and this is my main hobby as well as exercise in general, I visit the gym twice a week with my personal trainer !!! Like Michi, I also play a bit of sax but don't give it as much time and attention as the instrument deserves. I find watching Ian Kirkham play far more fascinating ! I also like to spend time with my family and friends.

Now isn't that interesting Shannon. You got me thinking.
Imagine a Simply Red convention with a band made up of Simply Red fans playing thier musical instruments and SR songs. Or should that read 'song'?
Let me introduce...........
Emily on Sax
Shannon on Base
............ on guitar
............ on drums
........... on keyboards
........... on brass
........... on percussion
and
MICK on Vocals
Sabine as official photographer
Sarah as Manager :D
Pat as Roadie (that's about the limit for me) :?
It would be impossible to arrange, what with finding music you could all play, then arranging practise.
But sounds a hoot to talk about. What would we call you?
Simply Red Funsters
Young Simply Red (young? )
Simply Red Killers
Simply Red Triers.
What other musically minded people do we have among us.
Cheers
Pat

*laughing fool arse off*
You want a bassist from the fan ranks, take Tijn--he's been playing longer than me, and he's had a chance to stroke string with Mr. Lewinson. As for the rest of the positions...
Sax--could do Emily or Michi--Em, which do you play? Michi does alto...if Em does tenor, we're all set. One of y'all would have to learn baritone sax in a hurry though.
Drums--Gina's a drummer...though metal thump seems to be more her calling... :D
Keyboards--Angie (Night Nurse) has been known to tickle some ivories...
Guitar--my buddy Carmel; she now has the sheet music to 'Home'...
Brass--here's where you could use me. I'd gladly take trombone back up for the cause. Turns out I can still play alright, as I found out this spring...give me a month or two's woodshedding, I'd be set. Trumpet--don't know any players on here.
Percussion--don't know anyone, but any fans with a decent sense of rhythm could be coached up fast enough. :top
The name...Pat, why don't you do a poll? :D
Could be fun to talk about indeed. Start a new topic?
redorro - 18.07.2006, 14:05
Well, (DON'T LAUGH TOO LOUD, especially you at work Lin  ) I played triangle at school music (just a few years ago), and tambourine for the Salvation Army, as a young girl. Again, just a few years ago.
Fell in love with my first drummer at the ripe old age of 13. Still would love to play drums. It takes me some time to get over things.
So, can I be guided into percussion? How's my qualifications?
Pat (who can probably sing SR songs and play the music, but the quality would leave a lot to be desired) :D
emily - 19.07.2006, 11:25
I also play Alto Sax but would be more than happy for Michi to play sax, I can play a bit of flute but above all I would love to have Sarah or Dees job....wheres the audition?

The only qualification you need as a percussionist is the ability to KEEP STEADY TIME...if you can do that, your instructor awaits. :D
OK, OK, I don't know how to play hand toms, congas, or the like, but could scare up an instructor easily enough, I figure. Hell, John would probably be more than willing himself, being the sweet bloke he is!!! :top

Ah, a singer!!! Auditions...um...*checks clipboard and mess of paper attached*
Y'know, Pat, if we all wanted this bad enough, we COULD get together for this...would be fun as all get-out, I think!!! I'd have to scare up a trombone as I hocked mine years ago, but it's been something I've been toying with the idea of for some time anyway.
In the meantime, was practicing up the bass line for "Fake" the other night...I'm up to the chorus bit...need to work on my articulation and speed a bit, but I'm getting there... :D
simplymichi - 19.07.2006, 17:55
Oh, you're setting up a band!!! 8)
Think, I'm gonna need a lil more practice before we start getting famous :D
Other things I could do: I learnt to play the organ ...ages ago... think I still remember some of the easier chords. I'm gonna manage to hit a tambourine to the beat. :D
Hey, but don't expect me to sing  You surely don't want to hear this... and to anyone who stands next to me at any concerts... sorry in advance for torturing you with my crappy singing
redorro - 20.07.2006, 10:46
Yes Shannon, it would be a hell of a trip. We would all fall over in a screaming, laughing heap.
Now we have part of our backing singers. Emily, thanks for the offer. You realise you have to wear the clothes to match the character. I'm still a roadie, so I get to wear dungarees.
PRACTISE???? AUDITION???? Who are you kidding???? We just get up there and do it the best of our ability. Practise and auditions, girls just want to have fun and not get too serious. Hey, but that's probably what would happen in a practise/audition session (fun).
Work and home life is where the seriousness lies. Not with Simply Red. :D :D
Let's see if this evolves.
Pat.

Alright, you lot, I'm asking in all seriousness here.
Once we've all financially recovered from THIS year's romps, what say you? Should we try to get together and do this????? Pat's right, it WOULD be a boatload of fun!!!!! Have someone video the thing and send it in to Silentway for the band and management's viewing...they'd get a kick out of it, I think!!!
How many of you would be in?

She was actually the first I thought of...but thought it might be tough to get her over with the rest of us for the jam. Hey, if you can get her with us, bring it on!!! It's best if the drummer and bassist are well-aquainted, after all...easier for 'em to lock the groove up...

I see you have got this up on the 'official' site now. Good one.
What? Have we got 12 months to bring this together?
It would be an absolute hoot. Or should I say Hooterville.
Would be good to see if we can pull something like this together, though you would have to commit to getting together in the one country at the same time.
We could have an audience made up of the complete band, management, admin, roadies etc. What a reversals of fortunes. Unfortunatley, there's no bucks ($) in it for us. Just a good time. :D
