Stage Door?
Hi

Has anybody ever got an autograph of Mick after a concert? Does he always try to sign autographs? How long do you have to wait? Where do you go to get the autograph?

Thanks

Sam

Moving this under the "Planning the Open Air Tour" section later on...

Meanwhile, from what I understand, meeting with Mick is very much a toss of the dice--he sometimes comes out and sometimes doesn't. My friends and I got lucky last November, he came out after both of our gigs (once he stayed in the car and once he got out). But others were not as fortunate.

How long to wait? At least an hour seems to be average...
Where to wait? Look 'round the venue for where all the trucks and buses are parked, there's usually an exit nearby, and you'll see some of the hardcore gathered there.

Do NOT go in expecting any sort of lengthy chat with him--there are a LOT of people all vying for his attention and he is usually accompanied by security. Expect to have time for a "great gig", a handshake or hug, and an autograph, then you'll get herded off so the next person in the queue can have their turn. Bit like a cattle call, really... :-(

Still, I got to thank him for 20 years of great music last year. That was quite nice. He was very patient and friendly with us those nights. :-D

Hi Thanks

Does Mick mind having his photo taken with you?

Thanks

The 30 seconds I had with Mick each time were good enough for me! :top
I'm happy with ANY time he gives.....

No, not at all! Many people here have had their photo taken with him. I'm not one of them--but it was 'cause I was too much of a doofus to ask. :D He gives nice hugs though. :top

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression above--usually, when he does come out, he is friendly to the fans. It's just not like with the rest of the band, where there's far less people wanting each person's time. His security tend to be quite impatient, or at least that's what I've experienced--but he's usually really nice. But please bear in mind he doesn't always meet with the fans after. Seems to be around a 50% shot these days. I just don't want you feeling too disappointed if it doesn't happen. But I hope it does for you! Good luck!

thanks for sharing that shannon,
the answer was different in 2003
when nobody reported opportunities
after any USA concerts...when the show
was over, everyone was whisked away.

not the case in Toronto, it was freezing
yet there were many photo opps+autographs.

also in Mexico, there was an actual reception
office set up with long tables, they all sat in
long room, and an organized line of people
walked through, in one door and exiting another.
autographs were signed and
photos taken in a very welcomed manner.
there is a video out there of the signings
and the concert in Mexico, I've seen it.

all of you who were lucky to have been to a
recent concert and had the "up close and personal"
moments are soooooooooo lucky....

thanks again for sharing, and feel free to tell us more.
sure beats never even had the chance.

Nope. The band's/Mick's itinerary is top secret to all but a privileged few; you just wait outside after and cross fingers. As Lin's story might attest to. So wear clothing appropriate to the weather as you'll be standing out in it for a while, until either they/he come out, or until the vehicles containing them speed off. Not a pleasant feeling in the latter case, but unfortunately has to be regarded as a possibility.

Now, if all of your questions are pertaining to maybe seeking a photo/auto op this summer, I will tell you that I have only been to 2 SR gigs total, and they were both UK indoor ones. I've been told by my friends who have seen a wider variety of shows that the summer gigs are a whole different animal because of the way the stages and infrastructure are set up. I am going over there with the mindset that my chances for meeting with band members after are slim to none. I will still see if I can try to, though, and if the opportunity presents itself, great. But I'm not putting too much stock in it. I'm just looking forward to some killer concerts.
'Cause at the end of the day, the music is what we come for. :top

Interesting, Lin--I'd heard a few people got a chance at the coastal shows but that they scampered in Chicago. Given that it was October--coming up on late fall in the Midwest--I kinda don't blame 'em... (coldasawitch'stit!!!!!!) But then you say they came out in Toronto...wow. Like I said in the beginning--dice roll. No rhyme or reason whatsoever to where they stop and chat...

I've seen the pics from that Mexican signing--they're on the Dutch website, I think--or the Italian one. (Copyrighted--no savey-savey!!! :? )
Noticed a huge mob in Mick's corner...but a distinct lack of business at some of the band members' slots... :-( ...an opportunity I would have given my right arm for, and people were passing it up...*sigh*

I know how lucky I was to get to those gigs in November, and even more, to catch Mick twice in a row!!!! There's veteran fans out there that have yet to catch him, despite numerous shows! But then some have had a chance (or several) that I didn't get, also--fate smiles on us all in different ways. That's why it's good to have sites like this up so we can share with one another--with good wishes that fortune would find a new place to roost next time. :-D

Will put in a good word for a Stateside romp IF (and I figure it's a big IF) I happen to bump into anyone this summer. Meanwhile, I'll take tons of pics and use my usual free-flowing prose to try and bring home the concert experiences for everyone as much as I can. I wish everyone else could be there, too.

Hi, Lin! Mick came out at the NY show and the Chicago shows, so there were definitely opportunities at some US concerts. Steve Lewinson also came out at the NY show as did Ian :-D

Going Backstage is Cool!
Hi Sam,
From my past experiences with going back stage after a few SR shows, I think it really depends upon the venue, the bands schedule & how the band feels after the show. I truly believe they all do their best to get connected with the fans as much as possible. When they happen to come out to visit the fans post show, you should have no problems getting photos, autographs, and having a nice chat! Mick is a bit harder to see because he does come out less often but when he does, it’s awesome! I went with Gina to the UK back in November 2005 and as she already said, we got to meet the entire band on two nights and one night with Mick!!! :top

I went to 3 concerts during my stay in the UK. At the Manchester 10/28/05 show, the band did not come over to the fans that night. I think the main reason for this was the venue. The back door the band came out of was at the loading docks, which want not near to the locked gate where all the fans were waiting. When they came out to leave, all of the band members hopped onto the tour bus but they did wave Hi! Mick left a bit later in a luxury car with friends & he did open up the window for a quick hello before zooming off in the night. Oh well what can you do.

Now for the good part. I saw two shows at the RAH and since the back stage door lets out into the street, all of the band members came out this way to get to their cars!!! At the 10/30/05 show, most the band members came out for about 5 to 15 minutes each for quick chat where they signed autographs & posed for pictures with fans. I got to talk to John Johnson for a little bit! He’s super nice!!! :-D I guess I waited for about an hour to see them come out. Unfortunately, Mick never showed that night. A security guard told me that he left thru a side entrance which was disappointing but I’m so glad to have meet the band members!!!!! :D

Now the 11/2/2005 RAH show was fantastic. :top After this show, everyone came out again! I talked to Ian & Dave for a few minutes. Such lovely guys. :-D And thankfully Mick came out that night!!!!! YAHOO!!!!!!! It was about a two-hour wait but was it worth it. I finally got my picture with him but I was so excited that I forgot to ask him for his autograph. I brain went fuzzy!!! Mick stopped by to as many fans as he could for a picture & autograph. He’s not too chatty just a quick “Hello, How are you?” But it was fantastic. I guess he was out there for at least 10 minutes. It was AWESOME!!! :D :D :D Everyone in the entire band was great! Very friendly and laid-back! It was a wonderful night. And to top it all off, I meet so many wonderful SR fans! :D

So for all the shows you go to, do go back stage! Hopefully, you'll get to meet the Simply Red Band Members in person. Don’t be shy. Say hello, have a nice chat, ask for a photo & autograph. Be yourself & keep cool! I really hope you do get to meet Mick & the Band this summer!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Good Luck & Have Fun!!! :D :D :D
