Monster Shellfish Caught Off Canadian Coast
SHEDIAC, Canada -- A whopper lobster caught off the coast of Canada weighs in a 17.5 pounds.
The shellfish, as yet unnamed, is hanging out at the Big Fish market in Shediac, Nova Scotia.
His claw alone runs the length of the store owner's forearm.
The colossal crustacean is too large to have fallen into a lobster trap. More likely, he got caught on the outside of the cage and was hauled in.
About 100 visitors a day are dropping in to the store to get a look.
The fish market owner is not selling the lobster. If he was, it would fetch about $1,000.
The owner estimates the lobster to be about 100 years old.
He said the animal will be stuffed and mounted on the wall so that people can see him for years to come.
