BTW (again) dube.... did you avoid the cameras up there in Northumberland ? I was up there a few years ago (Bamburgh, Alnwick, Lindisfarne, Hadrian's Wall, etc) and the place was littered with cameras. The A1 was particularly irritating.

Tell me about it! All i can say is thank god for Radar Detectors! :lach: I got flashed by a camera last week so i'm waiting to see if i escaped the 3 points at the minute!

Worse place for me is the M25, i actually managed to get banned for speeding on that (not always the worlds biggest car park ;) ) and of course the M11 which is allways full of unmarked police cars :<

Love your Alfa Pants theres something about them :D

I'm a big fan of landscapes photography, i think its my favourite subject matter!

dube wrote: thank god for Radar Detectors! :lach: I got flashed by a camera last week

Hmmm.... Well even if they flash they don't necessarily have film in them but there are more and more digital ones now so if it flashes its more likely that you'll hear from them. I think if you don't hear within 2-3 weeks then you're ok. BTW you have to watch out for the newest digital ones that they're bringing in - they time you over a distance based on number plate recognition - I think they have these in Nottingham and Northampton that I know of (over a 2-3 mile distance).

I've always wondered about getting a radar detector but am not convinced about how good they are... and in any case they spoil the dashboard ! LOL

I've been driving for over 25 years and have only been caught a few times.... unfortunately that included twice on the motorway (once at 120mph/200kph - it was a jam sandwhich but they'd clocked me before I saw them and then they chased me down). It's up to 6 points a time for speeding on the motorway so I picked up a 6 month ban and a fine of £650...

...that was about 8 years ago now so it doesn't count against me on my insurance any more and I currently have a clean licence.

dube wrote: Worse place for me is the M25... ...and of course the M11 which is allways full of unmarked police cars

Yeah.... I often travel around the western rim of the M25 near Heathrow where they have the overhead cameras... now I just stick on the cruise control when driving that stretch.

The M11 would be great for putting your foot down if it wasn't for the cop cars... do you realize why you see a lot of them on the M11 ? They use the M11 for high speed driver training which is why you see so many of them. I used to develop computer systems for the police and Essex police were one of my customers, one of the guys I worked with told me that they train people at speeds up to 160mph/250kph up there.

dube wrote: Love your Alfa Pants

Yeah.... it is good.... shame about the offset number plate which spoils the symetry but you can't have everything. The big tyres and weight distribution give it fantastic grip and performance.

Plenty of other UK places... I've been to most parts of the country and there is some fantastic countryside out there.... the Yorkshire Dales are my favourite I think but Derbyshire, Lake District and Dorset and pretty good too.

    my car again... 120i

but atm its just for this year, next year i will buy the new BMW 1 Facelift as 3door Coupe, thats my final dream.

it will look like that(just as 3 door Coupe)

    ;) ;D

Pants, 6 MONTHS WITHOUT DRIVING, that would drive me crazy... how you survived that?

Re: A few pics i took this week #####56K Beware#####

    iampants - 26.10.2006, 22:46

LOL.... well 6 months without driving WAS VERY BAD ! My wife wasn't impressed either, having to ferry me around everywhere.

But luckily at the time I was working somewhere that I could get to by train and we lived on 10 mins walk from the station. And I kept my wife sweet by selling her car, letting her drive mine for the 6 months and buying her a new car at the end of the period !! :)

    It worked out ok.

In case you hadn't worked out mine and dube comments, in the UK we have a points system. Different traffic offences get different points on your licence. Insurers take the points into account when deciding your premiums. And if you reach 12 points you get an automatic ban of at least 6 months (well it is quite hard to avoid it). The more serious and repeated the offences the longer the ban.

6 Months  i couldn't handle that! I got banned for 3 weeks with a £360 fine for an average 114mph over 2 miles! there are advantages of taking a barrister to a magistrates court.

The police have 2 weeks to send me a NIP (Notice of Intent to Prosecute) not recieved it yet, but as i have a company car theres a chance it will get lost anyway!

That explains a lot about the M11 quite a few years ago i followed 4 Ford Scorpios down there they were all following each other at high speed 120+ unfortunatley my car at the time couldn't quite keep up!

I have to say a radar detector is a good thing to have, yes they are a bit sensitive to traffic lights etc.. but if anything i think thats a good thing. There main use is for the pesky mobile speed traps as thats what the police round my way seem to like using the most.

I only use mine if i'm going somewhere i don't know or if i'm late getting there. One point with speed detectors, the more u pay the better the hardware a decent Snooper is around £200+.

Indeed there are lots of scenic places in the UK, however my next place to photograph is Sweden next month, i'm going out there with Iron Maiden to Photograph 2 concerts and i should also get time to take in the sights (and women) of Stockholm :)

    iampants - 27.10.2006, 12:26

Well I "only" got 6 months and the fine BECAUSE I had a lawyer representing me !

It could have been 12 months and £800-1000 according to the guidelines or so a friend of mine who was a magistrate told me. Plus apparently magistrates are instructed to "consider a custodial sentence" for anything over 120 mph.

Personally though I think driving fast on the motorway is not much fun. Driving fast on country roads (like the ones round me in the chilterns) is much more fun, even though I'd only be driving at 50-80mph.

Hey iron maiden, i like that band... my favorit song is the trooper.

I was in the UK back in school, i was in London and so on and i personaly dont like london, a pretty dirty and ugly city. sry that is my opinion.

but the landscape of the rest of england and scottland is really impressive.

germany has a lot of nice scenic places too  ...

lol Bemme, i couldn't agree more! I work in London and the best bit of my day is getting on the train and heading out of London!

I'm not really a fan of Iron Maiden as such, i'm going for the photography first and the lovely swedish ladies second ;)

You philistines.... so much fantastic architecture and history in London ! LOL

Dube.... depends a bit where you come in - I admit the area around Liverpool Street isn't great but there is a lot of good architecture in the city - eg the gurkhin, lloyds, etc... even my old building (Barclays HQ at on Lombard Street). The whole area around Bank is fab with the Corn Exchange and Mansion House.

So many back streets and alleys too where there is a wealth of history.

London doesn't have the wide open spaces of most European cities (Madrid, Paris, Berlin) nor is it quaint like many of the northern cities (eg Amsterdam, Copenhagen) but it does have a fantastic mix from all periods.

What is also true of London is that it is a city with a long history and with its expansion it has taken in many of the old villages and towns that used to surround it and now are areas within the city. Most of these old villages and towns retain their own atmosphere and character which makes Greater London better than many other cities which are just uninteresting homogenous sprawls...

I'm thinking of area like Elephant and Castle, Greenwich, Chelsea, Islington, Stratford, Hendon, Kensington, Bromley, Richmond, Plaistow, Walthamstow, Enfield, etc...

All these areas of London have their own character and history independent of London itself which makes London such a varied and interesting place.

sry to say that, but the most of the common big cities got "features" and so on like london, so london is nothing special for me...

hey, i live in Dresden and here are a lot of historical buildings too...

Re: A few pics i took this week #####56K Beware#####

    dube - 28.10.2006, 16:10

To be brutally honest whilst i agree that cities as London do have some wonderfull architecture i am more fascinated by the ancient world, Castles, Pyramids, Ruins etc...

The office is in the Farringdon area, for those of you who don't know it this is one of the older parts of London, home to some of the more historical places in London such as Smithfields Meat Market and The House of Detention (Londons Biggest Prison back in 1845, and used as air raid shelters during the war)
