    Stress Relievers
Okay- now that the holidays are over, we all need to learn to relax our minds and find "positive" ways to deal with stress in our lives. Any ideas?? Jot down what works for you- and maybe it can help others too!

The only stress relief I have is when I'm gardening in the summer. But even that can be stressful when I have little one stepping on plants and digging holes where there shouldn't be. :x I've been trying to do scrapbooking and stamping since the weather has been yucky. It takes my mind off of certain things- and there's no time limit to when it has to be done because it's just for me.

So, maybe my suggestion would be to take some time to do something just for yourself.

As I already mentioned in another thread, sports is a good stress reliever! At least it works for me.

Another thing I never thought of that it would help me to relax is BEADWORK !!! Seriously!!! Nadja tought me how to do Indian beadwork and I never thought that I could do it at all, but it´s a good thing for me to do to calm down a bit ... I started doing a teepee when I was still in the States and I continue working on it whenever my time permits or whenever I feel like I want to do it ... just like yesterday ... I worked on it a bit last night to calm down.

I guess any kind of hobby helps you to relax. If there is something you really love to do, it makes you feel good doing it and that is helping your body to relax.

Music can help you to relax. I had kind of an "Indian afternoon" yesterday. While cleaning up I listened to some Indian Flute music and I was refreshing my sweetgrass to make it smell again - so this was relaxing in some way, too.

I relax by turing on my fountain and listening to some native flute music - or I do sports too. I like to sew and do crafts when I'm really stressed out and then if all else fails, lay down and listen to some easy listening music and nap. Candles burning are another good way to relax too.

Listening to NA music, (and Genesis, and Phil Collins in my case)
Do some crafting is a good idea too :) and sport :)
Or not just listening to music, playing music is another good way to relieve stress.
Drinking fine tea :) Black, green or herbal tea.
The lemongrass tea is a good calming tea it helps a lot :)

I like drawing and listening to celtic music. That's really relaxing

oh yes forgot about those. I won't need any stress relievers tonight as it's pouring rain and I'm so sleepy.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    evenstar - 15.01.2008, 03:48

I thought I had already replied to this, but I like to meditate, burn incense, and exercise! You really can't go past exercise for it's stress relieving abilities, and it releases feel-good hormones to improve your mood if you're feeling down too. Oh, and the other big one, laughing! There's nothing like having a good laugh to put things in perspective.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    enelya06 - 15.01.2008, 06:00

well said - hey we've had some more snow this am and it's been fluring off and on all day.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    mouseears89 - 21.01.2008, 07:13

Thanks ladies for all your tips. I have been trying to squeeze time in my day to relax. But unfortunately, it's at midnight!

I do laugh when I come to this board- so thanks to all who have something funny to say. Little one and I have been playing more games in the house on the days she's not at preschool. On the warm days we go outside to swing (she swings, I push :( ) But this weekend it was in the low teens (F) and too cold to be outside. Hopefully this week we will get more snow and can go outside to make snow angels.

I think I'm trying to do too many things and getting overwhelmed when I don't get it all done. But when I take time to relax, I feel guilty because I'm not doing some chores. Ugh, it's all just frustrating!

Well I would love to relax today but I've got to take Keri into the doctor at 1:30 then will have to go to JCP to work. Was going to take her at 11 but she said that was too early - 11 would have been so much better...but then i'd have to go out with a wet head so I'm going to go take a shower and it will give my hair time to dry. Keri doesn't need to take one - she took a bath yesterday i need one.

Maybe at some point I'll be able to relax.

Nancy, how is Keri doing? Hope you're both feeling better now.

evenstar wrote: Nancy, how is Keri doing? Hope you're both feeling better now.

Hey, Keri is doing well - she's still having some sinsus problems. I got an excellent drs. report the other day. I've lost 7 more pounds and my try's are almost back down to normal as is my chlosteral. he gave me some nose spray to use.

this wacky weather has been keeping everyone under so to speak.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    evenstar - 12.02.2008, 05:49

7 more pounds huh? That's very impressive!

So what is happening with all of the hurricanes over there? I rarely catch the news these days but I did hear about one in Kentucky last week? Hope everything is okay.

    enelya06 - 12.02.2008, 07:02

You mean toronado's? We had like 5 come though Lou9sville two weeks ago, then another one last tuesday - well this afternoon we had snow - and as of right now we have 4 inches on the ground. I'm hoping to get some photos of it tomorrow am. school is closed but I don't know about U fo L. I was home sick today. Didn't wake up till like 1 p.m. Need to really get to bed but am in no big hurry.

Hope to get some good photos of the snow tomorrow am.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    evenstar - 12.02.2008, 07:12

Sorry, we call them hurricanes over here. Wow, that's a lot of tornadoes! When I am home sick I usually sleep late too. I was just thinking the other day that I don't think I've had a sick day for over a year, and that I can't recall the last time I got really ill (touch wood). Maybe it's the vitamins I'm taking.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    newnativspirit - 12.02.2008, 10:11

Nancy, what was wrong with you? I missed you coming online - I was already wondering, but then I was busy with myself again too and only checked on messages then went offline again.

I´ve seen pics of what the tornadoes left behind and they were talking about 54 dead people ... I´m so glad we don´t have such bad tornadoes over here ... yet !!! Global warming will make a change soon.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    enelya06 - 12.02.2008, 16:07

Well I was not feeling well yesterday and I stayed home. Went back to bed and didn't wake up till 1 p.m. Then had to go to the grocery and get some stuff because of the weather moving in. Keri and I had a terrible time trying to get home last night - took us over an hour to do a 20 minute drive. Now I am unicing the cars - we're on a 2 hour delay.

My computer yesterday and last night kept giving me fits (as it is right now) I don't know if the weather had anything to do with it or not but we've had a big mess. Seems like for the last 3 weeks on Tuesday we've had toronado's and then a big snow/ice storm. I'm getting to were I dread Tuesday's anymore.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    evenstar - 19.02.2008, 03:00

Oh wow, and it's Tuesday today too. I hope this one goes better for you...

Hey, I was just thinking to myself last week how I can't remember the last time I got sick, and guess who woke up this morning with a cold? It's always the way isn't it *lol*

    Re: Stress Relievers

    newnativspirit - 19.02.2008, 11:14

So we should learn not to talk about being sick or getting sick - lol

WE ARE ALL JUST FINE !!! LOL

I´m in the progress of feeling much better - although I still have this pain in my left shoulder and body side, but to see Milena becoming a happy girl again, make me feel good !!! I love her that much and I guess it was about time to show it to her again - more than I did in the past months, cause I was busy with work and other stuff.

As for the stress I can say that the weather is helping me a lot. We have such beautiful weather in Germany right now and I can enjoy the sun every afternoon - sun on my skin makes me feel so good - it´s like I´m sucking it into my body and get more energy from it!

    Re: Stress Relievers

    evenstar - 22.02.2008, 08:22

You're right, it's all about the law of attraction *lol*

Hey, glad to hear that Milena is happy. It must be nice to know that the sacrifices you have made are starting to pay off.

So are you sure you're not a plant? They use the sun for photosynthesis to create food/energy to grow (if I recall correctly from high school science class). But yes, I think I've heard that that they recommend something like 15 minutes of sun exposure (Vitamin D) each day for a healthy lifestyle.

    Re: Stress Relievers

    Idril - 22.02.2008, 18:24

you're right about the plants. I could tell you exactly how it works (biology-classes) lol

I'm glad everybody seems to feel better. I still continue ruining (sp?) my body... :?

Me too! I will begrudingly give up most unhealthy foods when I am trying to live a healthier lifestyle, but chocolate is just one thing I don't think I could ever stop eating. I only need a little bit anyway, and it's not that bad for you anyway (especially if it's dark chocolate).

Here is a hint for pancakes- cook them on a medium to medium-low heat. When the bubbles appear on top- turn them over. The rest of the pancake with cook.

I've been taking your suggestions and getting less stressed. Sorry for not posting in a while- I'm limited on time right now. But it's a good thing. Glad to see the usuals posting- I've missed talking with you all. TTFN!!!

We've missed you too, Mouse. I've been trying to take my own anti-stress advice but it's hard sometimes. My company provided free neck and shoulder massages to staff today, so that was nice. I think I need to start meditating again.

Great, now I'm thinking about pancakes

    Re: Stress Relievers

    mouseears89 - 25.04.2008, 05:41

Pancakes are great- but please don't use them as a stress reliever!!!!!!

Sorry it's been so long since I posted. Since my birthday last week, I'm growing ever closer to "mam" stage of my life (you know the kind, where teenagers no longer refer to you as miss, but rather mam). So I think that has played on my nerves- the thought of growing older and what I still want to accomplish. The addage- life's waiting, when am I going to start living- is really hitting me hard. I don't feel like I've accomplished much, and want to get back to "doing" and not just "existing".

So, that's what's new with me. Y tu?

    Re: Stress Relievers

    newnativspirit - 25.04.2008, 08:32

Mouseears I know this feeling too well ... this is one of the reasons why I wasn´t online that much in the past weeks.

Now that I don´t work in the factory no more and am a full-time-mom I also had time to think about my life! And I realized that since I got separated from my ex 3 years ago I had no life. All I did was taking care of things to organize my new life with the kids - but it´s more a life FOR the kids and I got lost somewhere ... now in the past weeks looking for a new job and trying to make a better for my girls, I realized that I am 40 years old now and that all I´m doing is trying to please everyone and only do things that need to be done and that I have no life besides the kids. Too many weekends I was staying home alone when the kids were with their dad and even when I tried to find someone to go out with me, nobody wanted to go out. Most of my friends are married and have a family and so they rather stay with the family and the ones who are divorced had their kids and couldn´t go ... this was soooooo depressing and I was like "wow - now that´s you life now - staying home and getting isolated". I don´t want my life to be like this, cause I think that there still is more for me, but staying home and being a mom. It can´t be over with 40 and how will I ever get to meet a nice guy when I stay home all the time? There are only a few hightlights in my life - like May 10 when we have a gathering of old friends back from the 80´s - but events like this are only taking part once in a while. The rest of the year nothing really happens. My ex is having parties all the time and he really has a good life - he has lots of friends and lots of fun. I´m kind of jealous, cause I so would love to have a life like this. Being with friends and having fun helps you to forget about your problems and - most important - helps you to relax! But I´m dealing with my problems every day and never get the chance to forget about them and relax ...
So I know this feeling of just "existing" and only "doing" !

    Re: Stress Relievers

    evenstar - 29.04.2008, 11:05

It's so strange that you ladies should be talking about this cos I've been feeling exactly the same way, except for different reasons. I feel like I rarely go out anymore (and I don't even have kids) and my life has become so routine. I was just telling my friend that I'm thinking about going to night classes just to rejuvenate my brain and give me an excuse to have a break from the norm. I always thought that I would have a degree and a successful career by this point in my life, but instead of that I feel like I'm just drifting along without ever really accomplishing anything. I know I'm only young but I feel like my life is passing me by so quickly and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of all of the things I want to achieve. Am I the only person who ever thinks about just getting in the car and driving to some place far away?

    Re: Stress Relievers

    newnativspirit - 29.04.2008, 12:03

No, you are not the only person !!! I want to do that sooooooooo many times - just leave everything behind me and start all over again. But then I can´t because of my kids - so I get back to routine again. I try to see the best of every single day, but sometimes it´s hard ... for my life a change need to come pretty soon, otherwise I will turn crazy.

You said it yourself: you are still young !!! Go and take your chances! Take a look around - there is sure something for you to do! And if it is a night class you want to take - you can go from that!
