Eine genetische Krankheit, die die roten Blutkörperchen nach Abgabe des Sauerstoffes verändern lassen.

Diese verstopfen die Blutbahn, was das Absterben von Gewebe zur Folge haben kann.
Es ist eine durchaus schmerzhafte genetische Krankheit, gegen die es noch kein Gegenmittel gibt. Todesfälle iim Kindesalter sind keine Ausnahme. Es gibt seltene Fälle, wo ein sichelzellenerkrankter Mensch über 50 Jahre alt wurde.
Xkem hat das Produkt Nicosan (EU und USA Hemoxin) auf den Markt gebracht und befinden sich zur Zeit in der klinischen Phase IIIb.
Laut einem Zeitungsbericht aus Nigeria, soll das Medikament sehr gut Wirken und die Patienten seien damit sehr zufrieden.
Welche News werden erwartet?
Es ging lange Zeit rum (Seit etwa August 2006) bis endlich Kredite bewilligt wurden.
1. Kredit 1,2 Millionen Dollar
2. Kredit 2,6 Millionen Dollar wurde letzten Freitag bereitgestellt
3. Kredit 9,28 Millionen Dollar stehen noch aus und man rechnet gem. Gerüchte mit der Bereitstellung innerhalb der kommenden 2 Wochen.
Ein weiteres Gerücht ist im Umlauf, in dem es um ein PP in Höhe von 5 Millionen Dollar geht, das anscheinden letzte Woche abgeschlossen wurde.
Eine weiter News wird erwartet, das ein weiterer Dryer (wird zur Herstellung der Medikamenten benötigt) installiert wurde.
Dieser Dryer und ein weiterer Ersatzdryer seien schon im Betrieb angekommen.
Durch diesen Dryer wird die Produktion verdoppelt.
Innerhalb der kommenden 90 Tage soll die Produktion auf 30.000 Monatsrationen ansteigen.
Ab dem III. Quartal 2007 soll das im Moment im Bau befindliche Betriebsgebäude fertiggestellt werden.

Experts hopeful on sickle cell cure
INTERNATIONAL — Scientists have made several exciting findings on the sickle cell disease control and possible cure which could save the lives of 16 million people world-wide. African scientists from Nigeria and Ghana, led by Prof. Ramesh Pandey, have developed NICOSAN(TM), a new anti-sickling herbal drug that decreases frequency of painful episodes (crises). The drug, an extract from four plants, is produced by Xechem International, Inc. The drug, still only available in Nigeria, must be taken daily by the patient. A monthly supply is about $23 (sh 42,400 per month or sh502,320 per year.
The five-year studies on the drug, before it was launched in July 2006, will be repeated in the US.

Hope for sickle-cell patients lies in Nicosan, a herbal drug recently discovered by scientists in Nigeria and Ghana.
Nicosan/Hemoxintm, formerly known as Niprisan, is from four plant extracts which have been used by traditional health providers in Nigeria.
The first and second phase of clinical trials showed a decrease in the frequency of painful episodes and an increase in school attendance of people with sickle-cell disease.
The findings were presented at the 34th Annual Convention of Sickle Cell held at Hyatt regency Dallas Reunion, Texas in September.
It was organised by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA) and attracted thousands of member organisations from across the US, leading researchers, physicians and professors across the world.
Nicosan has been under research for over 10 years by African scientists led by Dr. Ramesh C. Pandey of New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Pandey was hired by the Nigerian government to take part in the research conducted at the National Institute for pharmaceutical Research and Development and at several laboratories in the US.
Laboratory work carried out at the Children’s hospital of Philadelphia, US showed that Nicosan has a strong anti-sickling effect.
Lukiah Mulumba, founder chairperson Uganda american Sickle Cell Rescue Fund in Texas, said studies were done with transgenic sickle mice.

2.2 From separate determinants to building integrated African ‘health innovation systems’
Systems of innovation frameworks revolve around the importance of collaborative networking between actors/actants at
different levels of innovative activity and learning capabilities. Linked to this are the ‘system making’ connection
components or the purposeful activity around the six determinants outlined above that create linkages between the
actors within the health innovation system. We now examine a case example of Niprisan (NICOSANTM) to highlight
the interplay of these six determinants with the different actors within a health innovation system. It also demonstrates
that productive ‘system-making’ initiatives are possible even in difficult circumstances and that the challenge is to
maximise the potential of these successes.
2.2.1 Niprisan for Sickle Cell Anemia
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder caused by an abnormality in the hemoglobin molecule. The
disease changes the shape of red blood cells carrying oxygen through the body resulting in pain and anemia. Those with
the disease suffer a higher than average frequency of illness and premature death, especially in infancy.
Nigeria probably has the highest sickle cell disease population in the world (four to six million, roughly three to five
percent of the population). More than 100,000 Nigerian children are born each year with the ailment. As a result, since
the early 1990s, SCD topped the list of priority research projects of Nigeria’s National Institute for Pharmaceutical
Research and Development (NIPRD). In 1993, NIPRD established collaboration (contractual agreement) with a
traditional health practitioner and commissioned a clinical study (1993-2001) using plant abstracts. From the findings of
the study, ‘Niprisan’ was developed by NIPRD.
Niprisan is a drug cocktail, with phyto-pharmaceutical composition of four traditional plants extracted in a proprietary
process. It has been patented in 46 countries and is jointly owned by NIPRD and the traditional health practitioner. The
funds for patenting and conducting R&D of the drug were provided by the UNDP. In July 2002, Niprisan was licensed
to XECHEM Inc., an Indian pharmaceutical company based in the USA, by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health.
Xechem Nig. Ltd (a subsidiary of Xechem Inc.) commenced local production of Niprisan in 2003. Further pharmacological studies have resulted in standardization of Niprisan into capsule dosage form. In this new form, the drug has been approved, under the name NICOSAN™/Hemoxin, by Nigerian drug regulators, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and launched in Nigeria for sale on July 6th, 2006. Nicosan/Hemoxin has 23
received orphan drug status from the US Food and Drug Administration (in 2003) and by its European equivalent (in
2005).
The journey of Niprisan, from plant extract to medicine in capsule dosage form, and from a traditional health
practitioner in Nigeria to global markets demonstrates success in developing a range of systems-building capabilities.
Nigerian insitutions have effectively used the intellectual property system to leverage financial and social benefits from
the country’s natural resources. National R&D expertise customized to address a specific domestic problem has also
lead to some global success. Technology transfer links have been made with national public research institutions in the
process of the production of Niprisan in Nigeria by Xexhem creating a potential income stream in the form of royalties
and other revenue flowing from the agreement with Xechem as well as building local R&D infrastructure.
Systems-making connections have been made between NIPRD, traditional health practitioners, local community
members (during trial activities), UNDP which provided a sizeable grant, hospitals and clinicians, patent agents who
facilitated the patenting of the product in multiple markets, and a private firm.
While it offers potential as a case to learn from and build on, it has been argued (Oyelaran-Oyeyinka and Gehl Sampath,
2007) that many public research institutions like NIPRD still suffer from poor funding and subsequent lack of facilities
for biotechnology-based research as well as weak institutional mechanisms. For example, until recently, the Nigerian
government showed little interest in funding R&D providing only 10% of NIPRD’s research funds. Many public research institutions suffer from weak institutional and regulatory infrastructure to conduct meaningful partnerships with, for example, holders of traditional medicinal knowledge or to test for efficacy and safety of traditional preparations. Similarly, at times, there is still weak private sector interest in drug development and few spin-off companies created from public research institutions.

FG donates N70m to National Sickle Cell Centre

THE Federal Government on Tuesday, showed compassion on sickle cellers and albinos, by donating N70 million for the completion of the National Sickle Cell Centre, Lagos, and promised to help albinos conquer discrimination and stigmatisation.
The president announced the donation to the sickle cell carriers, at a breakfast meeting, held at the Presidential Villa Abuja, to raise funds for the completion of the centre.
Obasanjo called for more education and counselling, especially for unmarried young people, in order to prevent both partners, who might be carrying the gene from getting married and giving birth to sickle cell infected children.
At a workshop by the albinos, the president represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Ekaette assured that the government would come to the aid of the albinos.
Speaking further on sickle cell, Obasanjo said, “you need to create sufficient awareness among political leaders, so that they can support the fight gainst this disease. People will act only if they have the information.”

Students raise awareness with sickle cell 5K

Each year, more than 1,000 babies are born in the United States with sickle cell disease, requiring chronic blood transfusions and round the clock narcotics to ease the pain. In countries, such as Nigeria, between 45,000-90,000 new cases emerge each year, the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America reports.
The University of Florida Black Student Union seeks to "stomp out" these odds by raising funds and awareness for sickle cell disease through a 5K walk/run Saturday at 8 a.m. on the university\'s campus from the commuter parking lot on Gale Lemerand Drive to the Plaza of the Americas.
Registration begins at 6:15 a.m. and lasts until 7:30 a.m. Participants can pay the $15 fee by cash or check. Proceeds from "Stomp Out Sickle Cell" will benefit the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
Sickle cell disease, an inherited blood disorder characterized by crescent-shaped red blood cells, originated in Africa, Asia and the Mediterranean area, said Patricia Barbara, the newborn screening medical assistant for the Sickle Cell Information Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Although sickle cell disease is not unique to blacks, it appears more frequently in those with African descent than other nationalities in the United States, according to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
Sickle cells block blood vessels, reducing blood flow and causing tissue damage. Complications can include anemia, pneumonia, strokes, enlargement of the spleen, gallstones, eye problems and bone damage, said Dr. Sherri Zimmerman, an associate professor of pediatrics at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C.
"Basically our treatment right now is education," Barbara said.
For instance, if a child with sickle cell disease develops a fever higher than 101, he or she needs to receive prompt medical care to prevent a serious infection.f-z
Current research has several aims, chiefly to reduce the pain associated with sickle cell disease, Barbara said. Future treatments may include exjade, removing iron, or l-gutalmine, taking a nutritional supplement to increase hemoglobin and energy, she said.
"For many, the pain is excruciating," Barbara said. "It can stunt what a patient can be in life. We strive to alleviate that."

Sickle Cell Foundation Relocates »
The Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria, along with the Sickle Cell Club, Lagos, has relocated to its permanent site at the National Sickle Cell Centre, Idi-Araba, directly opposite Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
The Sickle Cell Club and Foundation now occupy a segment of the ground floor of the National Sickle Cell Centre. The remaining two floors have not been completed due to lack of funding. The Centre when completed, will provide a unique facility with the overall objective of enhancing the quality of lives of individuals with Sickle Cell Disorder. The foundation stone of the Sickle Cell Centre was laid in 1998, by former Head of State, General Mohammadu Buhari, then Executive Chairman of the Petroleum (special) Trust Fund.

m IHUB wurde gestern zuletzt noch gemunkelt, dass Xechem & die Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria künftig wesentlich enger kooperieren könnten.

Pandey and Burg ARE talking with Prof. Akinyanju and when I talked with him last week he said Mr. Oniyide has had talks with him also. The company feels he will be on board SOON was the exact wording.

One way the Nigerian government will be able to help facillitate the distribution of Nicosan will be through the clinics run by The Sickle Cell Foundation of Nigeria. This is part of the reason why the government is giving such funding to the organization to support the roll out of Nicosan to the general population. Distribition probably has something to do with the few million dollars that were earmarked for the development of Nicosan in the Nigerian National Budget for 2007 as well.
Since at it\'s very basis Nicosan is a Nigerian project it would only stand to reason that the government would not extend funding to an organization which would not help spread this treatment to as many SCD sufferers as possible.
IMO we will see confirmation of a relationship between the Nigerian SCD Foundation and Xechem in the very near future. This is the kind of news that would be best used prior to the elections.

Ist gut gewesen, da so die Indikatoren sich ein wenig abkühlen konnten. Obwohl man sich bei solchen Aussichten heute mehr erhofft haben. So sind die Fundamentalisten immer noch überzeugt und die Charttechniker sind auch wohlgesonnener. Dann kanns am Montag weiter gut abgehen.
Spätestens am Dienstag dürfte es dann weiter hochgehen. Denn wenn am Montag immer noch nichts kommt, dann wird ggf der Kurs noch nachgeben.
Deswegen es auch am Montag nicht so eng sehen, wenn der Kurs tiefer stehen sollte.
Die Indikatoren sind dann noch besser abgekühlt und können einen noch extremeren RUN aushalten :lol: :wink:

Was uns in dieser Woche erwarten kann:
1. PP über 5 Millionen
2. Letzter Kredit über 9,38 Millionen
3. Dryerinstallation und Betriebsaufnahme um die Produktion zu verdoppeln
4. Irgendwas mit einem Ambelic-Kredit. Wahrscheinlich die Ablösung des restlichen Kredites über 1.000.000 Dollar. Sei seit letzten Donnerstag unter Dach und Fach laut IHUB.
Das besondere daran ist, das mit den Geldern ein nerviger Kreditgeber Chassman zum Teil ausgezahlt werden soll und vorallem die Produktionsstätten vollends ausgebaut werden können. Bis III. Quartal soll das fertiggestellt sein und dann die Produktion weiter hochgefahren werden.
Das ist ein OTC-Wert der schon seit Juli produziert und verkauft.
5. Jahreszahlen mit den ersten Einnahmen drin. Pandey und Anhang ist zur Zeit in Nigeria um sie abzuschließen.
Es ist zur Zeit wirklich eine tolle Aussicht. XKEM hat nun das geschafft, was GLIF erst noch bewerkstelligen muss.
Und GLIF war im Oktober bei .27$.
Der letzte große Anstieg bis .115$ (Juni-Juli) 2006 war reine Phantasie.

Nicosan (Hemoxin, Niprisan, Nix-0699) ist ein pflanzenchemischer Wirkstoff (pflanzliches Heilmittel), erprobt in der Behandlung der Sichelzellkrankheit (Sickle Cell Desease/SCD).
Entwicklungsgeschichte:
Der Wirkstoff wurde am Nationalen Institut für Pharmaforschung und Pharmaentwicklung in Nigeria (NIPRD) entwickelt und in den USA patentiert (9/1998)
Das NIPRD führte bereits die Phasen I, II a und II b der klinischen Erprobung durch. Derzeit befindet sich Nicosan in der Phase III der klinischen Erprobung in Nigeria.
Im August 2002 erhielt die Fa. Xechem International/USA die weltweit gültigen Exklusivrechte für Niprisan (später in Nicosan/Hemoxin umbenannt)
Im Juli 2006 wurde das Medikament unter Anwesenheit des nigerianischen Präsidenten Olusegun Obasanjo offiziell auf dem nigerianischen Markt eingeführt.
Produktion und Vermarktung von Nicosan wurden bereits aufgenommen, derzeit jedoch noch mit begrenzter Kapazität. Es laufen Vorbereitungen, die Produktionskapazität der Nachfrage anzupassen.
Aktuell bereitet Xechem die Zulassung von Nicosan zu weiteren Forschungszwecken (Investigational New Drug / IND) bei den zuständigen Behörden in den USA (hier: FDA) und in der EU vor.
Forschungsergebnisse:
Phase II b der klinischen Erprobung wurde 1996/97 an einem Armee-Krankenhaus in Lagos/Nigeria dürchgeführt. Xechem berichtet, dass 73 % der 30 Patienten, die an der Studie teilnahmen, während der 12-monatigen Untersuchung keine (Schmerz-) Krisen mehr hatten; die restlichen 27 % hatten weniger häufige und weniger ernsthafte Krisen.
Die wesentlichen Ergebnisse:
Es fanden sich Berichte über 2 Untersuchungen, von denen nur eine, durchgeführt mit 82.Patienten, geeignet erschien, in diesem Bericht aufgenommen zu werden. Diese Phase II b (Schlüssel-) Untersuchung belegte, dass ein pflanzliches Heilmittel, Nicosan, SCD-typische schwere Schmerzkrisen während der 6-monatigen Erprobungszeit effektiv reduzieren konnte. Unter Nicosan ergab sich weder ein Risiko ernsthafter Komplikationen, noch für anämische Zustände. Ernsthaften Nebenwirkungen konnten nicht beobachtet werden.

US orphan status for Xechem\'s sickle cell disease treatment

Xechem International has received orphan drug designation from the FDA for its investigational compound, 5-HMF, for the treatment of patients suffering from sickle cell disease - an inherited disorder that can create clogs in blood vessels.
Orphan drug status, given to drugs intended to treat diseases afflicting less than 200,000 people in the US, will entitle Xechem to various incentives, including the waiving of regulatory filing fees, access to potential grant funding for non-clinical and clinical research to generate required data for marketing approval, and seven years of marketing exclusivity for 5-HMF if approved by the FDA.
According to the company, 5-HMF is a natural product with very little, if any, toxicity, and a high affinity for sickle cell hemoglobin.
"We are pleased with the FDA\'s decision granting orphan drug designation to 5-HMF. This puts Xechem into a unique position where the company will have two drugs in the pipeline for treating patients with sickle cell disease," said Dr Ramesh Pandey, CEO of Xechem.
"5-HMF is a new type of drug that interacts specifically with intracellular hemoglobin without interacting with other proteins in the body. Today there are no non-toxic drugs available on the market to treat SCD," Dr Pandey continued.

Was bedeutet „Orphan Drug Status“?
„Orphan Drugs“ sind in der europäischen Gesetzgebung Arzneimittel für seltene Leiden. Die EU stuft eine Erkrankungen als „selten“ ein, wenn nicht mehr als 5 von 10.000 Personen betroffen sind. Für eine Registrierung als „Orphan Drug“ gelten ganz bestimmte Voraussetzungen: So prüft die Behörde u.a. nach strengsten Kriterien, ob das Arzneimittel und dessen Wirkungsmechanismus eine effektive Behandlung der Erkrankung in Aussicht stellen.
Da der potenzielle Absatzmarkt für solche Produkte begrenzt ist, wird durch die Verordnung des Europäischen Parlaments und des Rates die Entwicklung von Arzneimitteln für seltene Leiden gezielt gefördert. Orphan Drug Niprisan (Nicosan/Hemoxin) for Sickle Cell Disease in EU
On Oct. 4, 2005, the European Medicine Evaluation Agency (EMEA) approved orphan drug status for the phytomedicine niprisan (Nicosan/Hemoxin, made by Xechem International, Inc.) for the treatment of sickle cell disease (SCD).
Niprisan is an ethanol/water extract of Piper guineenses seeds, Pterocapus osum stem, Eugenia caryophyllum fruit, and Sorghum bicolor leaves.
The approval was based in part on data from a phase 2b, placebo-controlled, double-blind crossover study in 82 Nigerian patients. The data showed that treatment with niprisan significantly reduced the frequency of SCD crises associated with severe pain during a six-month period (P < .01). Moreover, 73% of patients achieved complete remission. Anm.: Bei 73 % der Pt. zeigte sich ein vollständiges Verschwinden der Symptome!
Niprisan did not appear to cause acute hepatic toxicity, as assessed by liver enzyme activity; evaluation of serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels suggested that renal function also remained normal. No serious adverse events were reported.
Niprisan (Nicosan/Hemoxin) was previously granted orphan drug status for this indication by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in August 2003.

Who is Affected?
In the United States people are often surprised when they learn that a person who is not African American has sickle cell disease. The disease originated in at least 4 places in Africa and in the Indian/Saudi Arabian subcontinent. It exists in all countries of Africa and in areas where Africans have migrated.
It is most common in West and Central Africa where as many as 25% of the people have sickle cell trait and 1-2% of all babies are born with a form of the disease. In the United States with an estimated population of over 270 million, about 1,000 babies are born with sickle cell disease each year. In contrast, Nigeria, with an estimated 1997 population of 90 million, 45,000-90,000 babies with sickle cell disease are born each year.
The transatlantic slave trade was largely responsible for introducing the sickle cell gene into the Americas and the Caribbean. However, sickle cell disease had already spread from Africa to Southern Europe by the time of the slave trade, so it is present in Portuguese, Spaniards, French Corsicans, Sardinians, Sicilians, mainland Italians, Greeks, Turks and Cypriots. Sickle cell disease appears in most of the Near and Middle East countries including Lebanon, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Yemen.
The condition has also been reported in India and Sri Lanka. Sickle cell disease is an international health problem and truly a global challenge.

[LILONGWE] The Southern African Development Community has resolved to develop regional safety standards and carry out research into traditional medicines and medicinal plants to cure communicable diseases.
Health ministers from the 14 member countries made the resolution at a meeting in Malawi\'s capital Lilongwe last week (30 March) and recommended sending experts to China for advice about how to create the standards.

Traditional medicine has moved up the Southern African Development Community (SADC) agenda following an upsurge in the accessibility and use of traditional medicine in the region.
"Whether we like it or not, people in our countries are accessing traditional medicine," said Stephen Sianga, director of Social and Human Development at the SADC secretariat.
"What is important is to ensure that these medicines are safe and meet the acceptable quality standards."
Mphu Ramatlapeng, chair of health ministers of the SADC, said that by joining forces and pursuing strategic partnerships at the regional level with key stakeholders, countries could address some of the key objectives of the UN Millennium Development Goals.
A ministerial steering committee involving stakeholders from all the countries has been put in place to explore the issue and draw up the safety guidelines.
The guidelines will include policies to monitor the use of traditional medicines at country level. Malawi health minister Marjorie Ngaunje told delegates a policy has already been developed for Malawi.
"[The policy is] aimed at assisting traditional healers to set up a secretariat, so that they link up with health officials for ease of communication," she said.
Crispin Kaposhi, a pesticides consultant in Zambia who has conducted studies on the use of indigenous plants as pesticides and drugs, said governments should strive to preserve traditional knowledge before it disappears.
"We need to intensify research and support the work that our traditional healers are doing with medicinal plants," he told SciDev.Net.

Nigerian experience
We were so thrilled about the support from our sister countries Nigeria and Ghana in relation to the struggle of sickle cell disease in Africa. Doctor Ramesh C. Pandey of Xechem, Inc, New Brunswick, New Jersey, presented about the new anti-sickling natural herbal drug Nicosan / Hemoxintm in Nigeria. Various basic and clinical studies of Nicosan formerly known as Niprisan have been performed over the past 10 years in Nigeria at the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) and for over five years at several laboratories in the United States. Dr. Pandey was hired directly from the United States by the Nigerian government to take part in this research. He has been involved in research of this drug for a period of over five years. Nicosan is an extract of four plants which has been used by traditional health providers in Nigeria.
Phase I/II clinical trials showed a decrease in the frequency of painful episodes and an increase in school attendance of people with sickle cell disease. Laboratory work carried out at the NIH NHLBI Sickle Cell Disease Reference Laboratory at The children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in United States (SCDRL-CHOP) showed that NICOSAN has strong anti-sickling effect. Their studies in vivo using transgenic sickle mice that express human sickle cell hemoglobin showed that NICOSAN not only decreased the formation of sickled cells in blood, but also prolonged the survival period of mice that had been exposed to severe hypoxia (5% oxygen / 95% nitrogen). Other studies performed at Xechem Laboratories in New Brunswick, New Jersey in United States and Xechem Nigeria in conjunction with SCDRL-CHOP have shown that NICOSAN contains various aromatic aldehydes that combine with sickle hemoglobin and inhibit sickling erythrocytes at very low concentrations. Further studies showed that NICOSAN contains chemicals that inhibit cell sickling by hydrating sickle erythrocytes. According to Doctor Pandey, NICOSAN is a new effective anti-sickling natural herbal drug available in Nigeria. The studies conducted in Nigeria, will be repeated in the United States so that it can be available over the counter by patients of sickle cell disease. We are very happy for Nigerians. Some patients/parents etc have been contacting loved ones in Nigeria to send them NICOSAN to United States.

Wenn man Nachfolgendes liest, könnte man meinen, Nicosan dürfte sowohl in USA als auch in EU verordnet werden, da jeweils die Zulassung als Orphan Drug gegeben ist. Welchen Wert hätte sonst die zitierte "Marktexklusivität"? Allerdings las ich nirgendwo von entsprechenden Intentionen Xechems. Vielleicht stellt sich die Frage der Verordenbarkeit aktuell nicht, da schon der riesige Markt Nigeria derzeit noch nicht hinreichend bedient werden kann.
Über Orphan Drugs
Orpan Drugs Status wird von der US-FDA solchen Produkten gewährt, die seltene Krankheiten oder Bedingungen behandeln, die weniger als 200.000 Menschen in den Vereinigten Staaten betreffen. Die Kennzeichnung als Orphan Drug berechtigt das Unternehmen zu einer besonderen siebenjährigen Marktexklusivität nach der Zulassung und ermöglicht Steuervorteile für die Forschung, Subventionen zur Finanzierung von Forschung und Entwicklung, reduzierte staatliche Gebühren für die Vermarktungsbewerbung sowie Unterstützung bei der Überprüfung von Protokollen für klinische Versuche.

Die Kosten für Forschung und Entwicklung verursachen teilweise dreistellige Millionenbeträge. Deshalb werden im Rahmen von "Orphan Drug"-Zulassungen staatlich zusätzliche Anreize für Unternehmer und Forscher geschaffen, solche "unwirtschaftlichen" Arzneimittel zu entwickeln.
Seit dem Jahr 2000 kann auch in Europa Medikamenten der Orphan-Status zur Diagnose, Verhütung oder Behandlung lebensbedrohender, zu schwerer Invalidität führender oder schwerer und chronischer Leiden von der Europäischen Arzneimittelagentur (EMEA) zuerkannt werden.

Ich hab in diesem Posting fast alle Angaben aus dem Kopf gemacht und bitte um Berichtigung, falls ich was falsch geschrieben hab.
Weiß nicht, ob das hier mal gepostet wurde. In der unteren PDF/Datei kann man Einnahmen bis 14. November rauslesen. aufmerksam
Dürfte meines Wissens nach die aktuellste Info sein.
Bis 14.11.06 80.000$ Einnahmen
Produktlaunch war etwa 13.07.07
Etwa 5 Monate ergibt durchschnittliche monatliche Einnahmen: 16.000$
Die kann man aber nicht so einfach hernehmen.
Warum?
Zu Bedenken: Das Produkt wurde langsam, unter schwieriger finanzieller Situation und unter der Problematik eingefuert, das erst mal die Menschen darueber informiert werden muessen und es erst mal annehmen moechten. Die letzte Zahl von regelmaessig einnehmenden Patienten war glaub: 2500. Von wann die Zahl war, weiss ich nicht.
Das waeren etwa durchschnittliche monatliche Einnahmen von 50.000$.
Ich nehme zum einfacheren Rechnen den Preis der Monatspackung von 20$.
Das ist jetzt eine pauschale, aus den Fingern gesaugte Rechnung, damit man es sich den Verlauf etwas leichter vorstellen kann.

Das waeren bis etwa 14. November gerade mal 62.000$. Es waren bis 14. Nov. aber schon 80.000$ Einnahmen.
Habs jetzt ein paar mal hin und her probiert, ist jetzt nicht besonders toll, aber man kann zumindest sehen, dass es eine ordentliche Steigerungsrate an Kunden gab. Uganda wird jetzt dann wohl aus demnaechst dazukommen. Waer eine weitere NewsmoeglickeitZwinkern
Die Patienten und die Verabreichenden Arzte werden wohl nun auch immer mehr ueberyeugt werden und es wird sich wohl wie eine Art Lauffeuer nun verbreiten koennen.
Die restlichen nicht verkauften Monatspackungen muessen auch auf Lager sein, da bei kurzfristigen Produktionsschwankungen die Patienten mit dem Medikament versorgt werden muessen.

So wie ich das bisher verstanden habe, wird XKEM nach einsetzen des 2.ten Dryers die Produktion auf 30.000 Monatspackungen verdoppeln.
Somit muessten momentan etwa 15.000 Monatspackungen produziert werden (Bruch nicht beruecksichtigt). Dadurch muesste momentan ein zeitlicher Vorrat von etwa 5 Monate pro Produktionsmonat hergestellt werden, wenn nur 2500 Patienten es momentan einnehmen wuerden. Interessant waer es zu wissen, was XKEM als angedachten Vorrat einplant.
Durch die bisherige positive Resonnanzen, die man in verschiedenen Onlinezeitungen oder mpeg_files herauslesen kann, denke ich das es weiter eine gute Steigerungsrate sein wird. In den kommenden Monaten wird man wohl weiter den durchaus wichtigen Vorrat produzieren, somit verstehe ich auch die angestrebten Einnahmen von 500.000$. Denn es waeren bei 30.000 Monatspackungen monatlich etwa 600.000$ bis rein nur Erwachsenenpackungen ueber 700.000$.
Innerhalb der kommenden drei Monate soll ja die Produktion weiter erhoet oder ab dem III.Quartal 2007 nach der Fertigstellung der weiteren Produktions und Betriebgebaeuden auf 100.000 Monatspackungen monatlich angehoben werden. Das waeren dann bis zu 2.000.000$ Einnahmen monatlich!!!

Die kommenden 1-4 Wochen werden auf Grundlage der zu erwartenden News sich bilden. Danach wird sich zeigen, wo die Aktie ihren neuen Boden finden wird. Je nach dem wann der letzte zu erwartende Kredit kommt; wie sich die Jahreszahlen outen werden. Spätestens im kommenden Quartalsbericht wird sich zeigen, was sie dieses Jahr in den ersten drei Monaten eingenommen haben. Der danach kommende Quartalsbericht wird wieder höher werden. Diese kommenden Zahlen dürften dann weit aus höher sein als der Jahrebericht und ich könnte mir eine schöne dreimonatige Wellenbewegung Richtung Norden vorstellen. Wenn das ganze noch geschickt mit "Zwischennews" gepackt ist, dann könnte ich mir eine richtig schöne Kursbewegung in den kommenden Jahren vorstellen.
Es wird wohl nun für jede Art von Trader interessant werden. Kurz-, Mittel- und Langfristige werden ihren Spaß haben, wenn die Aktie immer weiter gen Norden steigen wird.
Die Aussichten sind einfach verdammt gut.
Wer jetzt schon lange durchgehalten hat, dürfte dann wohl endlich belohnt werden.

Wenn ich bei www.otcbb.com schaue, dann ist dort eine MK von 46.69 Millionen : 0.0327 Als letzten Preis = 1.427.828.746,xx Shares
Laut einem Bekannten von mir, sei eine KGV von 1,5 realistisch. Er habe diese Zahl immer wieder bei BioTechunternehmen her. Er sprach aber dann von BASF oder Merck usw.
Wie das bei XKEM ist, kann ich nicht sagen.
Im IHub meinten sie mal, das ein KGV von 10 gerechtfertigt sei. Ob das stimmt: k.A.
Die etwa zwei Millionen Dollar Umsatz enstehen bei mir durch: Geplante Produktionsmenge von 100.000 Monatspackungen. Dies multipliziert mit 20$ etwa Durchschnittspreis zum leichteren rechnen.
Kinderpackung glaub etwa 18$ Erwachsenenpackung etwa 23 oder 25$.
Ich nehm die Zahl nur zum leichteren Rechnen.
Ob bis dahin auch soviele Abnehmer gefunden werden steht erst mal offen. Kunden gibt es genug, aber die müssen das auch erst mal wollen.
Jetzt steht für mich erst mal der zu erwartende Hype an. Und der kann bei Aussicht der Newslage sehr schnell nach oben gehen.
Erwartet werden vom BigDaddyc25 innerhalb der kommenden Woche 10-15$ct.
Er weiß verdammt viel und ist ein Investor wie du und ich, nur das er intensiven Kontakt zu XKEM pflegt.
Laut seinen Angaben sei das PP durch, die Alembicsache fertig und den 9,6 Millionen Dollar Kredit sei auch schon über die Bühne. Ob das tatsächlich alles so ist, werden wir wohl die kommende 1-2 Wochen sehen.
Bis etwa 14 April kommen dann noch die Jahreszahlen, wo dann auch die weiteren Einnahmen herauslesbar sind. Dann werden wir sehen, in wie weit sich der Umsatz zum 14. November gesteigert hat.
Der Hype letztes Jahr im Juni, so kann man sagen, war nur aufgrund Phantasie.
Vergleich GLIF: Der Hype ging von etwa 1,5 $ct bis auf 27$ct.
Im IHub denke auch schon einige: Weil der Hype diesmal aufgrund Fundamentalem enstehen könnte, würde er höher gehen als letztes Jahr.
Zumindest sind momentan die Aussichten einfach nur gut.
Ich würde mich freuen, wenn er die 15$ct Marke bricht. Ob er es tatsächlich macht oder überhaupt an die 10$Ct Marke rankommt, werden wir sehen.
Ich bin für die kommenden 1-2 Wochen verdammt Bullish eingestellt.

Umsatz liegt somit über der Konsensschätzung von 150K $ und wenn man bedenkt, dass der Großteil davon im 4. Quartal erzielt wurde, kann man mit ziemlicher Sicherheit für das 1. Quartal (Zahlen hierfür kommen gegen 15. Mai) mit einer angenehmen Überraschung rechnen!!

Laut einem Bericht (PDF-Datei, http://www.pennypickers.com/JoChef/XeChem_Company_Report.pdf , hatte XKEM bis etwa 14. November 80.000$ Einnahmen.
Bis 31.12.06 waren es dann 202.000$ Einnahmen. :P :P :P
Somit war es eine Steigerung innerhalb 1 1/2 MOnaten von 122.000$
Die habe in den 1 1/2 Monaten mehr Einnahmen gemacht als von etwa 13. Juli bis etwa 14 November
Die letzten 3 Monate sind noch gar nicht dabei.
Die Zahlen kommen erst im Mai :P :P :P
Fett, die Steigerung für XKEM.
Bei 202.000$ Einnahmen geteilt durch etwa 20$ je Packung = 10.100 Monatspackungen.
Bis etwa 14. November waren es 80.000$ Einnahmen = 4.000 Packungen
Für die restlichen 1 1/2 Monaten bleiben 6.100 Monatspackungen übrig.
Somit müssten für 4.066 Monatspackungen Abnehmer geben.
Wahrscheinlich Krankhauslager oder sonstiges.
Wenn dem so weiter geht, haben wir hätten wir schon 244.000$ Einnahmen nur von Januar bis März. Aber soweit wollen wir gar nicht spinnen. Super wären schon 150.000$ Einnnahmen für Januar bis März diesen Jahres.

Q4 revenues at $123K - 56% increase from Q3 - and that is nothing compared to the Q1 increase to be reported later this month
gross profit margins look healthy at 60% - no reason why they cant drop 30% to the bottom line going forward
$710K of inventory stock piled - this is a good sign and indicator of the huge jump expected for Q1 -
this will equate to $1.8M in sales value

Xechem Pharmaceuticals Nigeria Limited, the manufacturers of Nicosan Drugs for the management of Sickle Cell anaemia said it has
committed about N3.73 billion ( an equivalent of $29.2 million) into its operations just as it disclosed plans to raise N2.5 billion from the country’s capital market, through the offering of its shares to the investing public starting September this year, so as to allow Nigerians have stakes in the company, which is the sole producer of herbal-based sickle cell management drugs in the world.
Also, the company said it has secured a N350 million from the Nigeria Export Import Bank (NEXIM Bank) which would aid its operations.
Speaking with newsmen during a facility tour of the company’s ultra-modern complex in Sheda, outskirt of Abuja, Managing Director, Xechem Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Iretiolu Oniyide said, $12 million of the whole investment represented a foreign direct investment from the United States and a $9.2 million guarantee from the US Export Import Bank (US EXIM Bank), which has a local guarantee by Diamond Bank Plc and Bank PHB Plc.
According to him, “to date, we are talking about $8 million and we are expecting $6 to $12 million direct investment on the way from the US and we are working on closing a $9.2 million guarantee from US EXIM Bank and a local guarantee for that is coming from Diamond Bank and Bank PHB.” (diese News soll diese Woche noch rauskommen, spätestens nächste Woche)
Oniyide added that Xechem has already started the process of hitting the Nigerian capital market to raise N2.5 billion (an equivalent of $20 million) by way of an initial public offer (IPO) through Chapel Hill Limited, its financial advisors.
“We are going to initiate an IPO for Xechem Pharmaceuticals Nigeria so that Nigerians can actually invest in it. We are going to raise about $20 million.
We have started the process, we are working with Chapel Hill, “ he disclosed. The chief executive also said, Xechem would start
clinical trials in the United States to get the
product, which has been made available in the Nigerian
market for some time now, “accepted and approved by
the USFDA basically to validate Nigeria’s scientists
that something good and useful to mankind is actually
coming from Nigeria contrary to what every body
thinks.”
Meanwhile, Oniyide explained that, Xechem
Pharmaceuticals Nigeria, which is a subsidiary of
Xechem International, Inc, US, was collaborating with
the Nigerian Human Rights Commission because of the
stigmatization and discrimination against Sickle Cell
disease patients.

participate in being born a sickler. A sickler that
does not have a choice in being born a sickler is now
in the world as a sickler. So we have the
responsibility for them to live a very quality life,
highly productive life and the society and the
government have the responsibility to make sure that

Soll aber nicht stören, denn wie man im Verlauf des letzten Jahres sehen kann, wird in XKEM gearbeitet. Nicht wie bei manch anderen Unternehmen, bei denen nur außen gearbeitet wird.

Xechem Receives $7 Million from New Investors

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Xechem International, Inc. (OTC BB: XKEM - News) announced today that it has received just over $7 million in funding following the closing of a convertible debt financing transaction with a group of largely new investors in the Company. The initial closing of $4.9 million closed on April 4, 2007, with the balance of $2.1 million having closed on April 18, 2007. (For a detailed description of the specific terms of the transaction, see the Company's filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission under Form 8-K, which was filed on April 10, 2007, and the Company's 8-K/A, to be filed shortly). A portion of the proceeds of the financing ($1.1 million) was used to pay down approximately half of the remaining obligation to Alembic Ltd., with the balance to be used for payment of certain existing obligations, progress toward completion of the Nigerian production facility and general working capital purposes. This funding is in addition to the recently announced bank loan of approximately $2.7 million received by the Company's Nigerian subsidiary last week.

Heisse zeit nun hinter uns: Die Regierung nach den Wahlen in der letzten Woche wird international anerkannt und sollte nun wieder gruenes Licht fuer XKEM geben. Das Vertrauen duerfte nun zurueck kommen.

The South African government has given an early signal of its response to Nigeria's disputed elections by both congratulating President-elect Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and appealing to Nigerians to use "peaceful and constitutional means" to redress their election grievances.
In a statement released by the Department of Foreign Affairs, the government said President Thabo Mbeki had wished Yar'Adua well and assured thim that South Africa was ready to "extend a hand of solidarity with the people of Nigeria."
Mbeki had also identified himself with a statement in which the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) said Nigerian authorities should empower electoral tribunals quickly to resolve all disputes.
Reuters news agency reported from Abuja that most countries had responded to the elections with either silence or criticism, and that South Africa's was the first "positive message" from a foreign government.
UK to support Nigeria's elected gov't: official
Britain will continue to collaborate with elected governments in Nigeria to foster the country's development, visiting Baroness Valerie Amos, the leader of House of Lords in the U.K, has said.
Addressing a lecture titled "Better Future in Africa" organized by the Oxford and Cambridge Club of Nigeria here Friday, Amos said that "Nigerians should not expect a perfect election, but what is important is that the country is moving forward in terms of democratic development."
She advised Nigerians to always think positively of their elected leaders.
Amos is the principal spokesperson on international development, foreign and Commonwealth affairs in the House of Lords. She is the first black woman cabinet minister and the third lady in British history to lead the Upper House.
Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, conducted polls last Saturday to elect from 25 candidates the successor to President Olusegun Obasanjo, who has ruled the country for two consecutive terms of eight years.
The ruling People's Democratic Party candidate Alhaji Umaru Yar'Adua was declared as president-elect.
But observers and opposition have criticized the elections for having too many flaws and irregularities.
