    Fw 190 Propellorblades attachments
    Hello to all,
Among the 21 Fw 190’s we dug up during the last 35 years there was only one with a special equipment attached to its propellorblades. Fw 190A-8/R2 WerkNr. 682810 of St.Fw. Wilhelm Scheschonka of 15/JG3 who was killed in the crash on 14 January 1945 near Mariënvelde in Holland. We found two alu-blades and each of them was equiped with an extra weight of steel mountings at the base where the blades were fitted into the spinner. See attached photographs. I assume that these were to compensate the too small (weight of the) blades. It could have been that there were no larger blades available at the time and they used smaller ones shorter and more narrow (?) which was compensated by these extra weights. On the steel ellipse parts there is the following info: “5105 gr F701 om 9-12153.51 7,2 M” and the 2nd. “5100 gr F408 om 9-112153.51 8,4 M” ‘om’ will be the manufacturer and some of the other specifications will mean “grams” and “Meters” I never found any info about these mountings.(Propellerausgleichgewichte oder Propellergegengewichte?) Does anyone have info and documentation about this subject ??
    regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
someone from the WWII Luftwaffe (I do not remember now if a pilot or ground crew) told me once, that this was used to compensate possible small weight diferences between the three particular prop blades - as it can be completely in good order balanced and do not make a stress to the engine.

    Thank you Jan,
Sounds very reasonable indeed, but it remains remarkable that we only once found these weights out of 21 Fw 190 crash sites.... Also other "Digging Groups" never reported us to have found the same kind of weights.....
    regards,
    Peter
