    Iron Maiden
Well, I've made this poll to know your opinion of Maiden quality. Personally I think that they are NOT SO GOOD that people say...
Always every one says that Maiden is not a metal band, is THE METAL BAND. personally I think that Iron Savior, Gamma Ray, Manowar, Judas, Black Sabbath... are better that Maiden.... is just my opinion and i wana know yours.

Maiden got me into metal, so I can hardly say they aren't good, but they certainly aren't as good as they used to be. In particular, they seem to have completely forgotten how to write decent songs - listen to classics like Two Minutes to Midnight and the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and compare them to the progressive dirges from the latest albums.

    Totally agree with you.
You has saied, maybe the two best songs of Maiden, Run to the hills, transylvania, caught somewhere in time are very good too.

Absolutely - I was listening to Run to the Hills just the other day and wondering why Steve Harris doesn't write anything like that any more.

Like Wong Chung Bang, Iron Maiden was my introduction to metal, so I'm a little biased in their favor. Unfortunately, I have to agree that the overall quality of their songs is not quite what it used to be, with one or two exceptions (Brave New World is a personal favorite of mine).

On a slightly unrelated note, has anyone seen any orchestral or string tribute albums to Maiden? I recently found a piano tribute and it got me thinking.

Was that the one that Gabriela Kulka released, or someone else? I remember she used to do almost Regina Spektor-like versions of Iron Maiden songs.

It's the one by Vitamin Records.

    http://www.vitaminrecords.com/web/page.asp?pgs=product&catid=30&id=890

It's pretty cool, but it seems to be mainly the bass line and the vocals.

Kinda makes me wonder when (and if) we'll see a tribute (string, piano, etc) to Iron Savior. :D

I grew up listening to their music (and others like Metallica and Helloween, etc.) and I like them a lot. I have to listen their last album yet!

A Matter of Life And Death is brilliant... similar to The X Factor and Virtual XI, those two albums are badly underrated, and there are also overrated albums from maiden, like Fear of The Dark, Piece of Mind and Somewhere In Time.

Personally I think Iron Maiden is one of the best metal bands, plus they made Seventh Son of A Seventh Son, 'nuff said.

    Re: Iron Maiden

    Rocky Balboa - 24.12.2006, 00:45

A matter fo life and death...brilliant? well, if you compare it with Brave New World or Number of the beast for example... isn't so brilliant, right? that's I wanna say, that the're someany metal bands that now, aren't so good as before. Danath, thanks for mentionate Metallica or Helloween.... they're maybe, the two metal bands with longest decay.
Metallica, editing "Some kind of a monster" has proved that they can't make good metal like before and have to sell some of their private lifes to make money... their so far away from the metallica that made Master of puppets or kill 'em all, the metallica that don't wanted edit a VHS with their clips 'cause it was very comercial...
And Helloween, what's Helloween now? I got the single "Mrs God"...compare it with Walls of Jericho, for example, would be cruel...too cruel... Helloween is in decay since Kai Hansen leaved it.
I think that my comment can open a new discussion, a looong discussion, if anybody wants, put it in a new topic.

Well, I find A Matter of Life And Death way better than Brave New World (eventhough I like that album too).

Helloween is a joke and Metallica ... well, I kinda keep hoping that they deliver a great album 'cause they are the band that got me into metal. St. Anger is nasty thanks to the low production and it's extremely repetitive, but it had some good ideas which were badly implemented. I still think that Hetfield can put out something nice.

I have limited ver. of "A matter ..." with DVD:)
"A matter ..." is not album for everyone. It don't have fast short songs (have one - Different Worlds), the songs ar hard to hear (i don't know how to write this in english...) but they are talking about important things in life, and in my opinion it's great. In fact Iron Savior is also talking about important things in my opinion and have more easy to hear songs:)
