The North American Native Film Festival in Germany
ok - we´ve been talking about meeting up so many times and I know that some of you really want to come to the festival.

This is my offer to you all:
because our youthcenter is planing on a trip to the festival with a bus or the train from March 23 to March 25 (Fr,Sa,Su), I can offer you to meet up at my place and we can go all together. But then I would have to know for sure who´s gonna come to make a reservation for the bus/train and book a room in the hotel, where the actors are gonna stay.

Let me know what you think about it!

Aww.. I so want to come. But it is going to be hard beacuse the festival
is at the same time as my father and brother´s birthday. :(
    If Eddie or Michael comes.....

we all need to win a lottery or something and split the money - then we could travel wherever and whenever and not have to worry. I would love to go but can't.

Now guys I´m getting ready for the festival back here in Germany. It´s still another 4 months, but because of the holidays and my workshops it´s only a little time left for me to do the promotion for our fellas !!!
I plan on some merchandise for all the actors who are already work together with NNS. I also want to create a flyer for Intertribal COUP to give to the people and not to forget ... VIRGIL ORTIZ fashion ... as you can tell there is lots to do for me ... plus I have my workshops running, my work, my aerobics ... oh and I almost forgot about my kids. LOL I´m looking forward to being busy, because it´s a good thing to do. I only have to ask for permission to do all this at the NANFF in Stuttgart. If I won´t get permission, I´ll give flyers to people anyways ... and I can wear Virgil Ortiz and tell everybody what a wonderful designer he is ... oh and I can give a headshot as a gift to people I like - right? So, if Gunter Lange refuses to give permission, I´ll find a way to do it anyways - lol
    WATCH OUT STUTTGART !!!

hey I was just looking on yahoo travel and from here to Frankfurt the lowest price is around $462.00 and that was from like the 22 to the 30th.

That's still a lot of money....

Re: The North American Native Film Festival in Germany

    newnativspirit - 21.11.2006, 23:10

yeap !!! It´s not too bad - still a lot of money, but that´s ok!

Re: The North American Native Film Festival in Germany

    evenstar - 22.11.2006, 03:34

Girl, that is cheap compared to flying from Australia *lol* The average return airfare to Europe is more than $2,000! But I guess that's the price we pay for being right down at the bottom of the world :P

I wish I could come too anyway

I had to pay like 700 Euro to go to Edmonton last year - that´s about 900 USD - so this flight is really cheap !!! Unfortuneatly in summer the flights will be more expensive and I want to go to the Santa Fe Indian Market next year !!!

I've seen flights to london for around 424 but then you take into consideration hotels, food, etc...it could get costly...but it's not bad for the price.

I've been to canada but it was up through Michigan. it's a shame how prices have sky rocketed and I fear with the price of fuel and after the Comair crash in Lexington, KY they'll get even higher. One of the couples who go to my Church - his sister was on that plane.

New Zealand would be cool, too, because LotR was filmed there and the landscape is just beautiful. But I made my decision. lol And I hope I can move to a part of Canada with a lot of Forests, because I just love trees. The best would be old tress of all different "races" But I know that this is not possible.

Re: The North American Native Film Festival in Germany

    evenstar - 25.11.2006, 12:02

Well I've been to New Zealand and I always imagined Canada as being quite similar, in terms of landscape at least.

you should go to Calgary then or British Columbia (Vancouver - there are a lot of Germans - I´m in contact with some of them). The Calgary area is still close to the Rocky Mountains and they do have wonderful forests there ... as you can see in ITW - it was filmed there

Well if any of you Euros ever make it to the US, and for some reason decide to visit Ohio (we are a hot spot you know  ), the please feel free to stop by and see me. I would love to be the good host and show you around. It's not filled with Natives, but there are a few spots where we can see history of their people. I read somewhere that of the 88 counties in Ohio, 20 of them have Indian names. And almost all of the rivers have Indian names- I live by the Cuyahoga, Tuscawarus, and Nimasilla.

Also if any of you want to visit Kentucky, stop by and see me - course what would be wonderful is if mouseears and myself could show you all around the US. Ohio and Kentucky are side-by-side in some areas....I think it's about a 5 hr drive from where I live to where mouseears lives.

that serie would come to Sweden

evenstar wrote: It depends what movie it is. I believe ROTK was released pretty much on the same date around the world. But as a rule, America gets everything first!

Yeah, it really depends on how "big" the movie is and how many "important" stars are in there. RotK got published all over the world at the same time, because the first two parts were such a success. The same with Star Wars 3 and the new James Bond-film, I think. It was the same with PotC2 also. But those smaller productions with not so many starts etc are shown at first in the USA and then they slowly start their way through the cinemas in Europe, then Asia and then the rest of the world. All states look how the movie went in the states before and then they decide if the show this movie or not.

Re: The North American Native Film Festival in Germany

    newnativspirit - 08.12.2006, 00:05

It´s also a money thing, Idril. It depends on who is distributing the movie ... it´s not that easy ... I remember asking RTL Television Germany (also a producer of "Dreamkeeper") if they gonna show "Dreamkeeper" on German TV, they answered that there is no market for such a series on German TV - but it was very successful in Belgium, Holland and some other European countries - even in Poland. All these other countries are much more into culture and they have great culture channels. All we had on ARTE was a documentary about Residential Schools ... that was good, but watching it I had the feeling that without any background on Native American history people were not able to understand what was going on.
Nathaniel was on German TV several times, because he was in such productions as "Grey Owl", "Electra" (hihihi - he told me not to blink, so I won´t miss him and in fact I had to watch it 3 times to find Nathaniel! LOL), "Ginger Snaps III" and he was in "Smallville" ... so these are "white" productions. Even Steven Spielberg is not able to convince German TV to show "Into the West" besides on PayTV ... arrrrg. Oh, I forgot: "Smokes Signals" from Chris Eyre is available dubbed into German ... they gonna show it on the festival. I wonder what "Hey Victor!" will sound like in German - I doubt that anybody will really understand Indian humor ... the movie is a great example for it.

Re: The North American Native Film Festival in Germany

    evenstar - 08.12.2006, 02:56

They are showing Into the West on cable here, but I doubt they would ever show it on free-to-air, despite the fact that native culture is quite popular over here.

I wish we could all be over at the festival together....course if this wind picks up strong enough - if I raise my big umbrella - I may get blown over there. We're under a wind advisory today and tonight. :?

About the movies being shown - a lot of movies that come out here - don't stay in theatre's too long unless they've big names in them. Unfortunately nothing really good is coming out that I'd care to see.

The LOTR series and Star Wars were two of the exceptions that where shown all over the world. I personally think that when a movie comes out it should be shown all over the world - not just in a few areas to start with. Maybe if the movies where shown all over - some would get better reviews. Course this is my opinion.

It may take a while for me from the US to get there.

That was awful (the plane crash). I have 3 alarms set to get up by - 2 on my radio and my TV. It was a rude awaking for the TV to come on saying "breaking news" plane crashes in Indosesia....that woke me up well because normally I'll lay there for about 20 minutes listening to the beeps and the TV before crawling out of bed.

This morning they were talking about a deadly housefire....I think I'm going to turn the wake up alarm off my TV and just use the radio - these last few mornings - it's been bad news when the TV came on.

Well, basically the runway wasn't long enough for a plane that size and he couldn't stop in time. They tried to take off again but hit the ground and burst into flames instead. A lot of people in business class were burned to death. There were 10 Australian journalists, cameramen and embassy workers on the plane. Only 5 made it out alive. The cameraman actually jumped out of the plane and started filming on a broken leg! Anyway, they are now saying that the pilot was suicidal.

What is it with plane crashes lately? I seem to be hearing about so many of them on the news. I can't imagine how terrifying it would have to be for the poor people involved.

ok guys ... I just want to say "good-bye"! I´m leaving early tomorrow morning and will be in Stuttgart at around 11 am. I´m a bit excited now and hope that everything will go the way I want it to be.

I will think of all of you while watching good movies and talk to interesting people. I hope I can convince Nakotah and Tantoo Cardinal to work together with NewNativeSpirit and of course, I hope that a lot of people will be interested in Native Wind and want to buy green tags!

My friend is excited too, cause she´s never been to an event like this (nor did I - lol) and so I´m pretty much sure, that we will have a great week-end!

I´ll talk to you on Monday !!!

    Anne

Hey, you girls want to know something funny? According to the doctors i am three different heights!!! Now mind you i am 24 years old and done growing, but I am 5'9 1/2, 5'10, and 5'11 1/2, I've been measured three times within a year and i am three different heights. One really flat foot substracts from my height and the last height comes from wearing my hair out, it's typically a fro and so I was an inch and a half taller. Hahahah

cool - I think if I was going to model I'd much rather do the "still shots" and not the runway...

Re: The North American Native Film Festival in Germany

    emerald - 30.03.2007, 17:20

Yes, photoshoots are cool too, but runway is more exciting to me. It's really fast paced, you have to get changed really fast and try not to fall walking out in high heels. haha I've seen someone fall off the runway before, Yup! So you have to pay attention to a lot.

No, I didn´t buy anything. It´s just a small festival. I still do have some pics of Steve´s exhibition - but that´s about it. Gunter Lange wants to send me some more pictures as soon as possible. Of course, I´ll put them in my photobucket and let you all know!

I got asked to turn in an article about the film festival for the "Amerindian Research Magazine" and so I did ... the article will be published in the May issue. It will be in German, but because I´ll also need to write an article in English, I think I´ll just translate it. For all of you, who can speak German this is the article:

INDIGENOUS VOICES – 2. Nordamerika Filmfestival in Stuttgart

Gunter Lange, the art director of The North American Native Film Festival in Germany, has send me this to publish on my website and forward it to people who are interested in the German film festival for NA film.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INDIANER INUIT: The North American Native Film Festival Stuttgart and Children`s Cultural Center of Konstanz/Germany proudly announce:

A film documentary called "Memories Of An Encounter" which was made on INDIANER INUIT: The North American Native Film Festival 2007 in Stuttgart/Germany is now online on youtube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXiwHiPZzpk

The film documentary has been produced by filmmakers Sharif Korvner and Marina Weiss, HdM Stuttgart.

Our internationally recognized indigenous guests Michael Smith, President and Founder of the American Indian Film Institute and Festival San Francisco his wife Cindy Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Joy Harjo, Lurline Wailana McGregor, Steve and Nakotah LaRance, Gregory Coyes and Jim Poitras have visited many film festival in the past, so it is particulary pleasing for us that INDIANER INUIT: The North American Native Film Festival in Stuttgart was such a resounding success. The festival was characterized by a high level of interest from the public, numerous informal fringe discussions, encounters with school classes and teachers, and a relaxed athmosphere that proved so conducive to the intercultural dialogue, far removed from the usual trappings of the film industry, which are an ever-present feature of festivals in the US and Canada.

INDIANER INUIT: The North American Native Film Festival was patronated by the UNESCO, the UNICEF, the American Indian Film Institute and Festival San Francisco, and sponsored by the Embassies of the US and Canada, DaimlerChrysler, Hotel Unger, Medienteam Stuttgart and several others. Re: The North American Native Film Festival in Germany

    newnativspirit - 10.10.2008, 18:55

NewNativeSpirit and the North American Indian Film Festival need your support!

Dear friends, directors, actors, festival visitors, ladies and gentlemen,

To my dismay and utter regret, I have been informed that the Kommunale Kino Stuttgart (KOKI) has filed for bankruptcy and will no longer be subsidised by the city of Stuttgart in its previous form. As the organizers of INDIANER INUIT: Das Nordamerika Film Festival” this presents even more bad news, as it is extremely likely that all the money and donations from sponsors assigned for the festival from 18 – 22 March 2009 that was transferred to the bank account of the Kommunale Kino, are now lost. This also includes financing provided by members of the organization team, who are committed to the festival with heart and soul, as well as donations from private people (e.g. visitors to the festival), and extends to a sum in the region of EUR 5000 ($ 6,250).

As a non-profit provider of this still very young film festival, which is unique to Europe and was visited in 2007 by almost 4000 visitors from areas all over Europe and North America, we are currently concentrating our energy on sending petitioning letters to Stuttgart’s municipal culture office and to the municipal court, in the hope of being returned at least some of our money.

It is not only ‘“INDIANER INUIT: Das Nordamerika Film Festival” that is affected by KOKI’s bankruptcy. Associations for immigrants and intercultural establishments in Stuttgart are also shocked by the announcement of the closure of the venue. The organizers of the French and Italian film-days and the Cine Latino, which has grown consistently over the years, will now be facing difficulties.
“INDIANER INUIT: Das Nordamerika Film Festival” may be able to be held at VHS Stuttgart [Stuttgart’s adult education centre] in December 2009. The centre is interested in cooperation. Initial negotiations and meetings have already been held. IF THIS IS ACCEPTED, it will be announced via the festival website.
If you are interested in supporting us in some way, we would be very pleased to receive short statements and declarations of interest in continuing our film festival in Stuttgart. I will collect all letters of support and then forward them to Stuttgart’s municipal culture office.

Information about “INDIANER INUIT: Das NordamerikaFilm Festival”, to be continued in the coming year under the credo of “Generation Pow Wow” and with a “Floyd Red Crow Westerman Retrospective” can be found on the festival website soon.
UNICEF representative is the Grammy Music Award winner and actor, Joanne Shenandoah (Oneida), from New York.
I would like to thank you warmly for your interest and look forward very much to hearing from you.

    Gunter Lange
    Film Festival Artistic Director
    Media Arts Cultural Events

Please send your letters, short statements and declarations of interest to

    ooh my ,this is terrible

me & my cousin were planning on actually going this year.
we even saved up for it already

i'm going to write ofcourse ,but am a bit clueless on what to say.

Anne ,would it be oke if i 1st wrote/posted it on here (the letter) ?

Re: The North American Native Film Festival in Germany

    eddiefever - 26.10.2008, 12:32

    i've written something up.
i'm sending it to you ,but if it's not good than just let me know so i can change it

    Dear Anne,

when i heard about the NA film fest going to be canceled i was devistated.

cause me & my cousin have been saving to go to it this year ,since we couldn't go in 2007.

i haven't told my cousin this news yet ,cause i'm hoping & praying that there will be someone who wants to help the organisation out.

i know that my cousin is going to be very dissapointed ,just like me.

cause we both love the Native American cuture ,movies & everything involved.

it would have been the 1st opportunity for us to meet natives and other ppl who are interrested in the Native culture.

i even told a German friend of mine ,who is also fascinated by Natives , that there was a Film Fest in her own country.

she hadn't heard of it before ,but she was so thrilled to hear this & couldn't wait to go.

so i checked for her when it was & that's when i found out that the Film Fest might get cancelled

if the film fest will be cancelled perminatly than for us this means that we'll have to save up for a trip to American.

which will take us years ,maybe even a decade (we don't earn much)

i know that going to the film fest would be an experience of a life time for all of us & i know that there are plenty more ppl that will agree to that.

so i'll be praying that there will be a solution or a great giver ,so that the film fest will be saved

    Sincerely,

    MvO from The Netherlands
