I've been a fan of yours since your days in Gamma Ray, and I always wondered what kind of amplification and effects system you use? I think you kick serious ass with the setup you used on the I&G tour, I am still waiting to see you in Iron Savior, but if how you sound on Condition Red is any indication, then welcome back :lol: I'm a little behind as I just Bought CR, but hopefully I'll catch up soon :wink:

Hello Kai,
I am not sure if Thomas will read your post here, he is kind of busy as all the other Saviors are, but I can suggest that I will talk with Thomas about his "effects" and his equipment he uses when I will meet him next Sat.! It's great to see that someone is as much interested in drums like I am! :wink:

here is the long awaited answer of Thomas. Sorry for letting you wait so long.
As I said, I met Thomas and talked to him about your question! First of all he sends out greetings to you, he was happy to have somebody being interested in his work! Here is what Thomas ansered:
:arrow: INSANITY & GENIUS
Drum Sound "Insanity + Genius": everything acoustic sounds
Effects?: no idea!
Kompressor?: called: Focusrite
all together: low quota of samples!
:arrow: CONDITION RED
Drum Sound "Condition Red": Drums: Sonor Delite Set
Bassdrum: 25% sample sound (something from Alesis)
Snare: a low percentage of Ludwig Black Beauty Samples
the rest all acoustic sounds and untreated

PS.: Something I could add: for the bassdrum recording Piet on CR used Shure SM 57 micros as he told me once in the past!

Thanks for these! That SM 57 must be great, I read more recommendations (in places where I read about sound design and recording arts) for that mic than I can count. They all say it's a great mic to start out with for professional-grade recording.
Kai should like these very much! :P
Harald, I meant "Don't forget me" as in, "I also play the drums" ;) Don't worry, no question for now. :) You're doing a great job!

Recording instruments, especially drums is a cool thing in my eyes. I don't like triggered drums at all, but a mixture of acoustic drumsound and samples is quite cool to get more power!
I will try to visit the recordings of the next IS album to support you with the hottest and best information available on earth! ;-)
It only depends on when I will have my last examination tests at the end of the year and what will come afterwards!

piet is a great producer I have a couple of albums that piet produce and they have a very raw sound. very cool for power metal.
