Unknown part found on the beach
    Hi all,

this part I have found yesterday on the beach near Kiel / Germany.
It is made complete of aluminium, inside is a tube from one end to the other.

The cylinder has a diameter of 95mm and a lenght of 220mm, the small shank has a diameter of 75mm.

The part looks like to lay a long time in the Baltic Sea. But I´m not sure is it a part of a aircraft or from a ship

    Regards
    Nils

    Hi Nils.
I would guess that it could be some sort of exhaust silencer, try and scap any resadue from it's inside and determine if it's carbon?
hope this helps ,not sure if plane or ship.
    Regards Martin

    Hi Martin,

a silencer was my first thought, but I think that silencer was not made of aluminium. Otherwise, if it is a silencer from a small ship, then it is better to use a silencer of alumium, because of the salt water...

I´m not sure if the duct inside made of carbon :n66:

    Regards
    Nils

    Hi Nils
Sorry I meant, examine the inside and scrap any deposit that might be there inside ,as this could be exhaust carbon depoits which would prove that it is a exhaust silencer from an engine.
    Regards Martin

    Hi Nils.
Still think it's a exhaust silencer with your drawing details possable single cylinder stationary engine as you can see where 2 bolts were attatched to mount to cylinder head maybe from from a boat.
    Regards Martin
