Topic Revival: What's Your Dream Set List?
This one seemed to go over alright on the old boards, and now we've got an additional album to add to the mix. So, if SR were playing a set list chosen by you, what would they play? Pick between 20-25 tracks, and put them in the order you like.

I've got to think about mine, will post another time...but the new version of Sad Old Red will definitely be on it, LOVED it last fall. :D

WOULD THEY ONLY BE SIMPLY RED SONGS?

Only 20 - 25 tracks?!? :-( That's a tough job! Have to think about it. Yes, and I agree, Sad Old Red should absolutely be on that list!!! :top

Yes, Martha--this is one of the topics I threw up to get the boards kinda focused on SR again, we hit a downtime slump and I'm trying to get everyone in a RED mood again to anticipate the coming album. :D

EDIT: Oh, wait. They DO tend to throw in the occasional cover in their live sets just to liven things up. So if you wanted to toss in one or two that they haven't previously done, that would be alright. Just make sure you're imagining Simply Red performing the tracks you've got in mind. :top

    I'm still thinking about mine.

Yeah, unfortunately, that seems to be their set list length. I'd LOVE if they'd go on a tear like Rush and play for 3 hours minus a 15-minute break halfway through, but... :D

I guess if they DIDN'T do Sad Old Red this summer, I'd have to make do with the re-creation--my Instant Live CD's throbbing out of my stereo at concert volume...:devil What do YOU like about that track live? I love the building intensity of the horn section as the jam rolls on...Ian's playing becoming more and more "possessed", and the kid-in-a-candy-store grin Pete gets on his face as he gets to thrash his kit harder and harder. His whole face lights up like a Christmas tree. :-D :top Jam tunes are the BEST.

    Dream Set List
This is quite hard because it would be so out of this world if we could have a SR concert where they played every song they have recorded!!! It would be AWESOME!!!!! Well I know this won't happen but I think they should play a bit more than the standard 20-22 songs per show. Maybe 25-30??? But hey it doesn't really matter because it's great to see them perform even if it's only a few songs!

So I’ll take the 1st plunge at this. Here goes my dream set-list of 25 SR songs that I would love to hear at a SR concert. I can’t say this the exact order I’d like to hear these songs played but I would like these to be included. Just as long as the last song is Money’s To Tight to Mention!!! That’s one kick-ass song to end a show with!!!!!! With my choices I definitely want to see a lively show with a lot of action from SR. Only a few of the slower songs. I like them but I'd rather be dancing all night long. :D :D :D

Oh yes, you're certainly right. Hey, but we could ask Dave to persuade Mick to sing some more songs this summer :devil
What I like about "Sad Old Red" live... you described it absolutely perfect! I absolutely love these jamming songs myself... like "Thrill Me", "The Right Thing", "Money's Too Tight" or "Something For You"! You absolutely get lost in the rythm and the atmosphere! And "Sad Old Red" is just one of the best of this kind of songs! You feel that the whole band is enjoying what they are doing! Oh yes, and the climax ... and not to forget Mick's moves

That would be awesome to listen to, but my fingers and lips are cringing in sympathy pain at the thought of playing that long...

I had totally forgotten to post my lineup...here 'tis, in some semblance of order:

Holding Back The Years (Simplified version)
    Model
    She'll Have To Go
    Something For You
    Heaven
    Ocean
    Infidelity
    Freedom
    Ghetto Girl
    Home Loan Blues
    Say You Love Me
    Home
    More
    Fake
    Let Me Have It All
    So Beautiful
    Picture Book
    You've Got It
    Sad Old Red
    Thrill Me
    A New Flame
    Perfect Love

    Encore(s):
    Money's Too Tight (To Mention)
Something Got Me Started (Sicily version)
Ain't That A Lot Of Love
Fairground (hybrid version--extend that jam at the end somehow)

Start off with the signature SR tune "hey, yeah, I'm at a Simply Red gig!!", build up and cool down in cycles (good for the musicians, to keep the chops loose, and good for US, so we don't get totally winded with the singing and dancing!), then let it all loose at the end, finishing with a bang.

Of course, I'd also like to see some one-off covers in there (SR have always done great JB or other soul covers live), and I'm sure there'll be a track or two off Amplified that grabs me. But for now, this sounds good. :-D
(And yes, I see I violated my track limit--had to throw A New Flame in there somewhere so I can see Steve slap. :D )

Good choices there, Sas. As for sympathy pain, of course they'd be allowed to take a break every few hours. A certain redhead could even use ME as a lounge chair

    *howling with laughter* Indeed!
I'd be pretty useless in that capacity--best I could do would be bass tech--swapping out strings, gophering if he wanted to change up axes, cleaning up the basses, neck or string height adjustments, that sort of thing. :D
Surprised you as a drummer didn't stop and cringe for a mo'--imagine how tore up your hands would be (and how sore your legs would be) after a night like that!!
Thanks for the kudos--all were chosen carefully. Lots of rhythm section action, as you might figure. :top

Ah Gina would love to be a lounge chair for Micky!!!!! LOL!!!! For my part, I could cook some good old Italian food to help them replenish that energy needed to play all of those songs!!!! Actually eating that food might make them sleepy!!!

Now here is an idea, let them do a mega week long concert event where they put on a 2-3 hour concert each night so that they can sing all of their songs. That way we can hear every song they recorded played live & they can rest up in-between shows. What do ya think about this idea gals :?:

BTW: Shannon good choices for your set list! :top

Ahhhh....a Simply Red music festival - YES!!! I could coordinate that here where I work - they can play at the venue here, though it might be a bit too small. But, they'd get to stay at my house instead of a hotel....
