Here are a few photos of the excavation of a Vampire F.B. Mk.5 (VV602) we carried out on the 28th June.
We found pretty much what we expected to find. The one piece we could do without in a way is the cannon as they can be more trouble than they are worth but this one I don't think is going to present an issue as regards deactivation as you will see. It de-acted itself, though we will still have to go through the official channels in the comng week.
I have cleaned most of the parts up but haven't got any photos on my computer yet. One of the interesting pieces that came out of a ball of mud was the cassette that contained the film for the cine gun camera, which was the whole point of the exercise the aircraft was taking part in.
