    Part of P-51D carburetor?
    Hi All,

Could this be a part of a carburetor? Found in the 60's in the area where 357th FG Richard W. Taylor was KIA when his P-51D crashed in my village...

    Hi Paul,

    a carburetor with a compression spring ?
    I don´t know what a spring could control ...
But I´m not sure, because the carburetor for planes are very different to
other. They must work also in every attitude...

Tomorrow I will check my part list, maybe I can find something ;)

    Regards
    Nils

    Paul,

    thanks for the photos !
Now I think you could be right.
Sadly I couldn´t find the carburetor in the part list.

I think it could be a "Bendix-Stromberg Injection Carburetor".
    Here two links:

    Thanks for the photos Paul,
although im not sure if this is part of a carburetor, (it looks far too small to fit a 12 cylinder engine?), carburetors do have spring loaded idle mixture screws like the one in your pictures. this is spring loaded to stop the screw being moved by vibration when the engine is running. the screw allows a small amount of petrol through to maintain a constant, minimum speed of the engine when the throttle is not being used. it would be fitted at the base of the carb.

the photo below shows the highlighted idle mixture screw and spring on a weber carburetor as fitted to cars.

    Many thanks Guys !
As you can see it's heavily melted.....as it's from the area where Dick Taylor crashed it must be a part of his Mustang !

    Paul
