    Wellington?
    Hi Nils,

Thanks for the info on the bomb release. Sorry about pic quality, unusually bright day, difficulty seeing the camera screen.

First part marked DRG No. 1490901-A, <BRIMAL>,6

    Second part marked I think BY8 ? U79, 285 ?? 841
Larger stamp is upside down on the pic, reads top-to bottom NO(B/D?)

    Thanks Seán

    Seán,

the correct number is DRG No. L490901-A, BIRMAL
and the correct definition is "Type B Electro-Magnetic Fuzing Unit" Ref.No. 5D/506

    look here:

    Regards
    Nils

PS. Part numbers with the first digit "285" indicated a Wellington IV bomber!

    Fuzing?
Is that fusing as in bomb fuse?

    Bomb Carriers
Is the Universal Bomb Carrier part of a bomb, or a bomb rack?

I have no more infos about the exact location. But I think this was fitted on the bomb rack.

    a universal bomb carrier.
The Fuzing Unit (8) contained a solenoid which meant the bomb could be dropped in an armed state, or jettisoned safely. There was a similar unit at the rear of the carrier
