Well, i got this posted onto AO as well but might as well have it here ^^..... hope you enjoy!
Melody 1 - Prologue
I carefully placed my foot onto the solid cement steps and slowly climbed them. As the tapping of my feet echoed throughout the crammed hallway, the excitement contained within my chest continued to grow, as if my heart never had a limit.
Pondering upon the reason why Hanako-chan wanted to meet me after school at this time of the day. Still being caught up in my thoughts, I had reached the door leading to the rooftop. Slowly pushing the unlocked door open, the setting sun shone throughout the narrow hallway which I just came from and the warm sunlight seeped into my eyes, giving them a tinge of warmth.
There she stood, with the sun in the background shining down upon her, amplifying her immense beauty. I slowly paced myself to her. I had always loved her, but dared not confess my true feelings; she was a talented artist with a bright future whereas I was a shaky musician whose path in life was filled with so much uncertainty and roadblocks. I just couldn't bring myself to risk her future and livelihood by staying with me.
The scene settled into a calm silence with only the sound made by the passing wind. Hanako started to murmur a few words to me but they were too muffled to be heard. Suddenly, a loud explosion was heard from below us and flames engulfed the floor just below the rooftop. I panicked, not knowing what to do. Still confused, chaos overwhelmed my mind and I could no longer think properly. However, it was then where a single thought that brought me back to reality. I knew I had to put Hanako’s safety as the top priority.
As I dashed over to Hanako’s side, a large wooden plank fell over me. It was probably because the foundation of the building was being devoured by the flames that the building was falling apart. I had to do something quick, but I was trapped. Feeling so helpless, I decided to forget about my own safety for the sake of Hanako’s.
“Hurry Hanako! Get down to the ground floor using the fire escape route!” I screamed.
“No! I can’t possibly leave you alone here to die! If anyone of us is going to leave, we would have to leave together!” Hanako replied, with tears welling up in her eyes.
“Baka! Stop being selfish!” I was shouting at the top of my voice now, hoping Hanako would obediently comply.
“Never!” screamed Hanako, now rushing to my side.
As she came closer and closer to me, I knew for sure she wasn’t going to leave without me so I reflexively pulled out my arm from underneath the thick wooden structure that now rendered me unable to shift my body. I swung my hand in front of Hanako and pushed her away, screaming as the drops of tears uncontrollably started to flow out of my eyes.
“It would hurt me more than anything to see you die because of me. More than me dying as well! I know this is so selfish of me, to want to feel as comfortable as I am but just the thought of seeing you die before me, it’s worst than death itself!”
I couldn’t see Hanako’s face anymore. The thick smoke had taken away my vision, leaving me alone in the face of a death that I wouldn’t know of. I wouldn’t even know if I died because of excess breathing of carbon monoxide or if I died because another wooden plank hit me. The only thing I knew now was that all this was better than seeing her die.
As I lay there, unconscious to everything that was happening around me, I plucked the last bit of strength that remained in me and said as loudly as I could, “I love you, Hanako.”…
