I know that things stay pretty slinky here for the most part. But some recent posts have prompted me to share my thoughts on conduct that would make things go even smoother:
--Think of these boards as places to carry on conversations. If you read a thread, and don’t really have anything meaningful to contribute to it (can’t link what you have to say to the topic somehow), please refrain from posting. It would be like having a face-to-face chat with someone and just saying something completely random. It kills the conversation, or in this case, totally derails a thread, and it “dies”, not encouraging anyone else to post to it ‘cause they can’t pick up where it left off. I understand threads will go “off topic” (I’m quite guilty of making them head that direction), but it’s usually within normal conversation flow. If a thread makes you think of something, but you can’t link it to the thread you’re reading, start a new one so people can continue posting to the original one.
--This is a place to share whatever’s on your mind, and we welcome honesty here—we’ve kept things pretty open—but there is a limit set by simple decorum. If you disagree with something someone writes, these boards are the place to share it—but direct attacks on other users will not be tolerated. This can include sarcastic remarks directed at a specific person, namecalling, and the like. If you have issues with a particular user, the boards are not the place to vent—all it does is humiliate the person in question publicly and makes you look insensitive. We’re all (mostly!) adults here, so let’s settle things that way. If you question someone’s behavior or thoughts to a personal degree, we have e-mail and/or private messaging—settle your disputes PRIVATELY.
--Please take the time to read up on the types of things posted in each forum—there’s a place to say pretty much whatever you want to say. We have it organized so that all posts of a particular type wind up in a certain spot. When you go to post, take advantage of this organization. You’re more likely to get responses to your post that way, because people will actually be able to FIND it. If you post in the wrong place, people won’t remember where you posted, and one of us modly-types has to try to scoot it somewhere more appropriate. (There are limits on how much moving we can do.) Help keep your boards clean!!
--Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!! This is a place to hang out and chill with fellow SR fans. If things are happening that make it a place you don’t want to come to, please let one of us know, and we’ll do our best to correct the situation.
