If you’d like to say something to a fellow board user, and don’t think the boards are the place to do it, but you don’t have their e-mail, fear not. We have Private Messaging on our boards. It has the security of e-mail and works just like the boards posting. Plus it has the additional benefit of keeping your contact details private if you so wish.
You have two options to open up a private message to a user:
--Click on the “PM” tab on the bottom of a post done by the user if you’re within a forum and you see who you want to talk to;
--If you know who to talk to but can’t find a post of theirs, go to any page and scroll to the top. You will see several menu options in a row on the left. Go to “Memberlist”. There is a “PM” button next to every user on the boards. Scroll through the list until you find who you want, and click the “PM” button.
Either way, it will pull up a screen with the person’s username in the appropriate field, and the rest of the layout will look just like if you were posting to the forums. Type what you want and hit “Submit”. The person will get an e-mail stating that they have a new Private Message, so they will know to go check for the contact.
To retrieve PM’s, make sure you are logged into the system first. Scroll to the top of any page and look at the menu options—the last one (closest to center) is “Private Messages”. Click that and it will pull up your Inbox. Click on the message(s) that have a red dot next to them—the subject is a hotlink. Read and respond at your leisure.
(Note: if you forget to log in first, if you click on the menu option, it will pull up a screen that makes you log in, then once you do it will take you to your Inbox.)
A general note: Use this feature wisely. Both your Inbox and Savebox have limited storage capacity; make sure you keep them cleaned out, and try not to excessively post to anyone else’s—some users are on a lot less often than others and may not get the chance to check their posts before the box fills up.
Also, if anyone is abusing this privilege and using the feature to harass other users, it needs to be brought to the attention of the Admin or Mod IMMEDIATELY. The offending user will be dealt with promptly and firmly.
