    If I ran a school...
    If you ran a school, or were a teacher, or something like that, what would it be like? Would you give grades? What classes would be offered? When would it start in the morning? What rules would you have? What would the school mascot be?

    I wanna know!

    I would run the filthiest school...

    We'd be on a quarter system with really intense classes in a lot of specific areas. LA and social science classes would be focused on discussion, history classes on both discussion and lecture. Science classes would be as much lab work as possible with filthy field trips. And math would be good old-fashioned problem solving with drawing a lot of graphs.

    We'd have electives with a very global focus integrating different areas of knowledge, things like the geography of natural resources, anthropology, criminal psycology, calculus-based economics, history of 20th century music, history of religion, advanced Spanish literature...basically all the stuff I want to take now and can't.

    After every quarter, the entire school would run several week-long field trips and students would choose one to go on. Like a week on a marine research ship, a week of snow tracking, a week on an archeological dig in Turkey, a week in South Africa educating about birth control and HIV, a week in Thailand on a meditation retreat, and all that good stuff. In general, there would be a lot of field trips.

    We would. Assignments would usually be complete or incomplete. Final grades would include percentages, and there would be some boring, fill-in-the-bubble tests, because I'm not running a school for people who can't get by in the real world too. But students would get periodic written feedback and all that, with specific information on their strengths and weaknesses.

    Rules:
    1) Respect others opinions
    2) Speak from your own experience
    3) Be openminded
    4) Step up/step back
    5) No getting past first base in the hall, because that's just gross.

    Mascot? Probably a tree, because I'm weird. Western red cedar, I suppose. Or stinging nettle.
