    the story of a weanling
Last year we had a nice colt out of our mare Trouble and Blue. A nice colt born with the colour of his mum but turning grey. We weened him in October and placed him at a stable were other foals also another walkerfoal were gathered. We visited him a month later in the field were he looked fine. At this time he had turned completly grey.
In the beginning of December we got a mail that Julius ( stablename of the colt) had be caught in the wire , had a wound on the hindleg and the vet was called. Everythink was fine we were told a few days later. ( as it is 60 km drive we did not drive to the adress)
In the beginning of January we picked him up to get him ready as a surprise birthdaypresent for our daughter.
The foals were stabled in the barn. Everywhere wooden shacks with horses. Not fith but full. Our colt stood with 5 others colts in a box with a size of lets say 5 m long and 2,5 meters wide. They had hay and the stro was not fithy but it was ruther crouded. The foals where next to another walker a minishet a warmblood a welsh? and some other ponybreed. Julius was not bossy enough but very lovable the stableowner told us. he had a thik wintercoat on his back but when you touched him he was very skinny his nek was thin and he was little very quite.
At home we washed him, and then i saw that the wound was much bigger then I thought he was not lame but the wound was still 10 cm long and 3 cm wide in the middel. I groomed and washed him partly to look a little better. I decided to leave the wound as long as it looked clean. As the coalt had more space of his own and enough to eat it might heal better nauw.
well my daughter is very Happy with him.
Next to his wound he had the tendancy to wear his tail to one side. i expected his muceling in the hind his pelvis and tail if I could find a reason why he would do this. At the end we found thick sticky spots in his colt just on his bud like big dendron. He seemd to have a lot of itch on the spots. As I still had some Jojobaoil from Kroatia which helps healing the skin, I used it on his skin.
If you would look at him now you will be surpised, He is lifely again put on weight, his neck is thicker, he starts playing and bucking, his would heals and his tail hangs in the middel of his bum again.
I am glad we decided to bring him home. I personaly will not bring a horse to this adress again. The owner of that stable was overworked and had to many horses in the stables and could clearly not handel it.
Even so the rest of the horses there did not look underfead of neglackted ours clearly was. Wel my daughter started to work with him in hand again parking and listening to the leading person.

    Hi Suyin,
do you have a picture of the colt? I'm so curious...

A few years ago I was looking for a good breeding stable for my youngster Hurrie. It isn't easy to find for a stallion. A contact in a agricultural journal was the solution. 40 km distance, once or twice a week to drive to my "dwarf". But he enjoys his life on the "Helkenhof".

I hope Troubles son is getting well?
