This cylinder/shock-absorber (brass) is from a Lancaster III crash site.Who has any ideas of its use?

    Kind regards

    Hallo Roy,
the overall length from the first picture is circa 120mm(4,72 inches) and the diameter of the pipe is 17,5mm(0,69 inches). The wrench size of both hexagon nut is 20,8mm(0,82 inches). At the end of the bar is a ball-bearing with a plastics box.

    Regards

    Holger

where i have marked in red there appears to be lines, possibly made by a spring. the end cap looks worn inside, this could also be where the spring was fitted.
this part looks very familiar to me for some reason but i cannot think why.
its almost like a pump but i dont think one of those would be made of brass

The part I have found, is not the same.
I think my part is from the oxygen system...
