Why SR should tour the States/Australia
    :D

Thinking back on the threads I missed the most from the old boards, one was definitely the "Coming to Wisconsin" thread...where it started out with a plea to visit a long-neglected area, and ended up one of the most insane examples of digression witnessed by man.

Let's recapture the lunacy. *points to Rose Tattoo and Knokkak* This means YOU. And whoever else wants to chime in!!!! Adding the Aussies as well 'cause you guys have waited long enough. Give the band the business and make your pitch here. The crazier the suggestion, the better.

OK...let me kick this off and see what happens.

Why SR should tour the States?

--Built-in tour guides in every major market.
--Motown. Philly. They ain't in England. :D
--Your currency goes a lot further here.
--Our tabloids don't give a rip which of you are seeing who.

    Why SR should tour Australia?
    --Because Redorro says so. :devil

    OK...take it away!!!! :clown :devil :-}

There are great wineries AND fishing here so it could be a tour/holiday. And of course fantastic shopping for the girls.

    Why should SR tour Australia

    - We all miss the band terribly
    - It was 1996 the last time you were here. That now equals 10 years.
    - If we offended you on the last trip, all should be forgiven now.
    - We have great holiday destinations. Just to make the long trip more bearable.
    - You love us and want to see us desperately.
    - Mick now has an Australian Language phrase book.
    - We have some of the best fishing grounds in the world (sorry to non aussies, have to make the pitch sound good)
    - We have the best seafood and the best restaurants in the world (see above apology)
    - We have the best tourist attractions. Bridgeclimb
    - We have the best wine/wineries in the world (see above apology)
    - We are so easy going and laid back. So no pressure
    - You gets lots of frequent flyer points flying to and from and around Australia. Whoopee to a free international flight
    - The band want to come. This I think I know.
    - Well, you do have friends here to visit. Including us fans.
    - Finally, I've done trips to see you, now it is time to return the favour.

    Is that enough? lol

See you soon folks. Well, I can only hope.

    Pat

while the weather is still nice.

    We need you.

    Love,

Yes and I wanna see them as well. Redorro has given some great reasons as to why they should come here.
Also Melbourne has 1 of the great tennis events playing at the mo...Im sure the band would love to see that.
It doesnt get dark down here till after 9pm so hit the beaches boys and girls and get some southern sun onto your pale skins..sorry lewinsons.Sarah and Dee.
And especially for Mick....Darryl Somers wants to check out your latest hair style. He would also love to see you in the shirt with the pink roses where the button should be....I will elaborate for those who want to know. Just ask ok.
And SR you had better hurry as they are talking about demolishing your favourite venue down and there is no where else that intimate left to play in.
So PLEASE BOYS AND GIRLS PUT US POOR AUSSIES OUT OF OUR MISERY AND JUST SAY YES....Liz

What are they demoliting in Melbourne, Liz?

Its the Palaise Pat. They have been talking about it for the last 12 months and it is becoming a big issue between the Heritage Comm and the St Kilda council and State gov.
SR have played there 2x that I can remember. B4 that it was the sports centre and then the tennis centre.
I suppose we still have the Arts Centre left and it is nice. Ive been to a couple of concerts there....Liz

Well -- OK, ShanSki -- here's my reply:

Thee main reason SR should come (back) to the States is the MidWestern hospitality.... :D :D ---- Madame Rose, here will graciously open the hot tub at any time.... shall we take a dip there, Mickey boy?? You are ALL invited to "da party" -- beer (WI has several great micro-breweries), cheese (WI cheese rivals many European varieties) and hot, MidWestern babes ("oh the MidWest farmers' daughters really make you feel alright... :devil :D  ) -- BBQ on the patio (deck).... Now, how could they resist :?: :?: :?:

The Rose (of Hot Tub Club fame.. :P ) Tattoo

Now Rose and Liz and Pat and Lin,
I think you all gave excellent reasons for Simply Red to tour the US and Australia but as for the cheese???
    No way babe!!
Dutch cheese is the best there is!! :D

    Hi Yolanda

Yes I must agree with you about Dutch cheese - on my last visit to Amsterdam one of the pleasures I was introduced to was smoked edam so thinly sliced - - really beautiful!

    Love Sue x

Dutch cheese the best? I'll be the judge of that...will be sampling the local cuisine later on this year, and my Cheesehead born-and-bred taste buds will tell the tale. :D

Oh, and LizSki--how many of those band members could we shoehorn into that hot tub of yours, you reckon? I think we could make them all fit...some would just have to get friendlier than others...:devil

As for one of your famous BBQ's, they'd be fools to pass that up. This isn't just burgers n' brats fare, folks, those meals go international. LizSki's an AWESOME cook, and her hubby the king of the grill. I've never had a disappointing meal there yet.

Very good reasons to get them over here. Don't forget the watersports on Lake Michigan--your section or mine??? :-D Better yet, skip both and take them to the Door. Newport Beach is awesome.

    redorro - 22.01.2006, 22:20

The Palaise at St Kilda????????? They can't pull that beautiful old place down, surely!!!!!!!!

It would be worth so much to tourism, the markets, the cafe society :D , the locals as well as the Heritage societies. This is absolute madness.

    Sack the council, quick.

Yes, the Dutch do do the best cheeses. But we too have some specialties down here too. Ask Will Stubbs our cheese guru. :top

Alright...so I'm late. It won't be the last time...lol. SR should tour the States because we buy the albums too. Not all of us have the time to go over to Europe to catch a show. M needs to give all of us a chance at least and the Aussies too. ( Hi Rizzie Darlin'! ) One last thing. The Dutch may compete with Wisconsin on cheese. but lets face it...we back up the cheese with Miller Beer and Harley Davidson. You just can't beat that...no matter where you go.

Hiya, Rayven!! So you're late...no big. At least you're HERE!!!

Wouldn't use Miller as a selling point...I've heard not-so-flattering comments about American beer from Europeans... :D ...but Harleys? Yep...and as for other cool things 'bout 'Scansin, you've got:

--Lake Michigan beaches and fishing (no nasty sea salt, and damn good fish!!)
--Summerfest and State Fair--both attract good music
    --Wisconsin Dells and Door County
    --Bristol Renaissance Faire

C'mon Riz, back me up here.

Oh, and Rayven...whereabouts in the States are you? Do you wear a Cheesehead pedigree as well??? :D (I know, the profile says I'm in the north 'burbs of Chi-town, but I was born and bred a Cheesehead and always will be one at heart. :top )

Ok, ok...I'll admit that I can only defend Miller to a point, as I don't drink beer. As long as you guys tell my dad, who works for Miller, that I did try to support the family business...LOL. I am in Minneapolis, MN. But I am a cheesehead born and raised in West Allis, a suburb of Milwaukee. Summerfest is the best if you go on the right night, and the State Fair does offer some darn good cream puffs. One thing that didn't get mentioned though in the list of other things WI has going for it is the great OLD places to eat out. Mind you, not all of them have good food, but you have to go for the experience. For example:

Gilles Frozen Custard (after the State Fair)
    George Webb (at bar close)

And just an aside to the OLD SCHOOL 'sconites...the snake in the hunting exhibit at the museum.

    Much Luv...

    sasred - 06.02.2006, 00:01

We've got your back, Rayven... :-D You did your duty.

West Allis...so of course State Fair was always in your back yard. We'll forgive you for moving to Vikings country...maybe. :devil

Rizzie, where is this custard place of which she speaks? I thought Kopp's was the only game in town.

Yeah, there's a few of those 'atmospheric' dives up nort, too...the Penquin in Manitowoc USED to be one, but they had management take over in the late 80's that made the place go to hell. There IS always Phil Roeher's (??) Lunch on the wharf in Two Rivers...or Frank n' Pat's Pizza in Green Bay... :D

Re: Why SR should tour the States/Australia

    Rayven - 06.02.2006, 02:12

I have to say I was terribly remiss in forgetting Kopp's. That is also a mainstay...lol. Please forgive me living in Vikings country and know that I wear my green and gold proudly...no matter how tough that gets from time to time...ONE MORE YEAR!!!

    Much Luv...

    THE GRANDEST OF ALL !!
IN MY STATE IT WOULD BE THE GRAND CANYON, FOR A GREAT BAND.
ALSO A REASON IS TO SEE GRACELAND, WHERE ELVIS IS FROM.
SUNRECORD CO. WHERE MANY OF THE LEGENDS WHO ORIGINATED
ROCK AND ROLL RECORDED AT. JERRY LEE, CARL PERKINS, JOHNNY CASH AND ROY ORBERSON.

TIS TRUE, ROCK + ROLL, SOUL, COUNTRY, POP AND THE BLUES
CAME FROM THE MOST OUTSTANDING COUNTRY IN THE WORLD...
    THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
WE ARE AN ENTHUSASTIC PEOPLE AND WOULD WELCOME SIMPLY RED WITH OPEN ARMS, AS I'M SURE THE OTHER COUNTRIES WOULD.
THEN THERE'S VEGAS, YOU CAN BE SURE AS MANY FROM OTHER STATES WOULD ASSEMBLE TO SEE SIMPLY RED THERE. I KNOW I WOULD.
IN FACT, IF I HAD ADVANCE NOTICE I WOULD TRY AND GO TO ANY U.S.
STATE HE'D DECIDE TO PLAY AT.
I'VE GONE TO ENGLAND TWICE TO SEE MICK, NOW YOU COME AND SEE
    ME IN MY HOME... AMERICA.

Just to fire up this topic again....sasred...Rizzie is Rayvens pet name for me ...Liz....Moreluv in oz....Dont know a thing about Milwaukee except that I used to chat to a beautiful guy on ICQ who came from there. He used to tell me lots about the place and things and fairs etc that happened. His outings took him more to the bars of Milwaukee tho LMAO.

*laughs* So we've got more than one Rizzie! Rizzie is also a pet name to many of us for The Rose Tattoo--also a Liz. And SHE lives right in Milwaukee! Sorry I didn't make it clear...but what a small world, that you knew someone from Beer Town anyway! :D

Thought of a GREAT excuse for the band to hit Milwaukee instead of Chicago--

Cheaper hotel and eats...with LOWER SALES TAX!!! :D (Restaurant tax 'round here is almost 10 % of the bill!!!)

I'm thinking of getting a big card to send 'round to everyone I know Stateside before I head over in July, get everyone's signatures...front would say, "Come to the U.S.", and inside..."PLEASE?!?!?!?!" :devil

My girls ages 6 & 8 would love to see Simpley Red in concert. And how cool if their FIRST live concert could be Mick and the band???? So come on guys~ get over here :D

Another reason to come out here:
Doing Chicago? You can tour the world with the restaurants here. Just had dinner at a Pan-Asian joint right in my back yard:

    http://www.lulusdimsum.com/index.html

Killer Pad Thai. Also had the salmon sashimi. The pink ginger is really a nice touch. :-D

And hey, we've also got Chinese, Jamaican/Caribbean, Puerto Rican, Mexican, Lebanese, Egyptian, Indian, Japanese, Thai, Italian, Greek, Pakistani, Israeli Kosher, Polish, German, French, Cajun...

...I could go on. Service for all tastes. And a local fan willing to foot the bill. :top
