    The Rose Tattoo - 18.01.2006, 08:37

    Ok... I'll bite.... here goes:

Me and the Hub have been to:

2002 - Innsbruck, Austria - went for our 10th anniversary -- wanted to go skiing. Just beautiful... he even got to a bobsled ride at the former Olympic site.. from 1976...

2003 - Spain and Portugal.... I love Flamenco guitar music... and had this incredible urge to eat Paella, al fresco... Woooo... those Spanish men with their dark hair and dark eyes... Burned some candles at Fatima, Portugal.

2004 - Christmas Market Tour - (Munich, Prague, Budapest & Vienna). What fun Christmas shopping and sipping Gluwein while freezing your keester off... :D .

2005 - New Orleans, Louisiana - before the hurricaine... Had some of those, too..!!! My favorite U.S. city... the food, the fun, the music!!!

2005 - Italy - Gondola ride in Venice; the Vatican in Rome; Shopping for leather in Florence; Sipping Limoncello on the Isle of Capri and admiring the Amalfi Coast - near Naples... oh, and the food -- YUM!

2005 - England - Whirlwind "vacation" to see SR on their home turf... Shoe shopped on Bond Street.... Got a picture with the RedMan himself...

2006 - Pub and Folklore Tour of Ireland this coming March.... As soon as we get off the plane, its on to the Jameson whisky factory (brewery?) - now that's what I call starting a tour off on the right foot (I'd best not be wearing my stilettos... :D )

The best part about these trips??? Meeting people from all over the world....

I can't wait to see more of Europe....

Hawaii , Maui, Oahu, Kaui, + Big Island, gorgeous helicoptor ride over Wamaya Canyon and swam in a volcano crater on Kaui.
    Saw Sunrise on Maui....awesome.

St Thomas Virgin Islands great shopping, flowers, cheap liquor prices, great food.
St John, wonderful almost all unspoiled beaches, gorgeous
Virgin Gorda, fascinating several Islands & snorkle stops blue blue water
Puerto Rico twice (Famous Art Museum in Ponce is fantastic)
Toronto Canada (great fun, so much to see and do and eat and drink)
    Europe twice....

The best part was spending 2 Sundays meeting and drinking and eating and touring with all the Simply Red fans in London...this was arranged by Sarah Smith so successfully, and even the Dutchies came over and we all met and had such a great time it cannot be put into words...and we all met Elaine, had dinner, and could not believe we all got together !!! This shows how much we are the worldwide family of Simply Red.

England (toured all over including the countryside for 2 weeks)
Scotland (Edinburgh, met Carol, spent 2 days in castles and pubs)
Ireland (Ring of Kerry, Pub Crawl, Waterford, Dublin, countryside)
Paris (did every famous site, churches, museums, nudie/follies stage show, great, saw the artists on Monmartre hill, went everywhere)
Innsbrook Austria (walked all over town, fun shopping, beautiful yellow church) it was 92 (39C) and no air conditioning (unsual heat)
Heidelberg Germany (Castle, the steep walk uphill is a challenge)
Cruise down the Danube (tons of castle watching while drinking German Beer)
Brussels (saw the little pissing boy statue) Fantastic town square/market
Munich (of course Haufbrauhaus) went to local pubs to though, good food.
Cologne (gotta see the cathedral + go downstairs to the vault riches)
Switzerland (Geneva, Lucerne, Montreaux) wonderful lake with one hill filled with cute homes and castles, the other a mountain with snow caps.
Florence Italy (walked everywhere, went in every church, saw the famous parade of warriors from many towns there for sport event).
Pisa -yes walked all around the leaning tower and other buildings there.
Venice - omigod - tourists pack it during the day, fantastic at night for music, food, romantic trips on the canals, nothing like it !!!

Rome - Vatican had lunch with the Pope, toured the entire city during the day and at night, went to opera (made me cry it was so beautiful), ate fabulous food you only can find there and drank too much wine, went to every famous building and statue and church and mailed postcards from the Vatican postoffice and got yelled at for talking in the Sistine Chapel.
The lunch with the Pope, well, he wasn't feeling too well...didn't make it.

Nice -the city is fantastic on the Mediterranean Sea, went to the beach early in the morning before it got too hot, spoke a little French in the shops on the main street where we looked at art, and walked on the docks and looked at the expensive boats docked. Ate dinner up on the hillside overlooking the Sea (so blue).

Drove up through the Dolomite Mountains but it it was the only time on our 1st trip that we had lots of rain, some little villages were flooded.

Briefely (before my internet cuts me off again...)
Monte Carlo - omigod....cars, mansions, flowers, port views...sunshine..gobs of money everywhere.
French Riviera -St Paul de Vence was beautiful, artist community.
South of France wine country - (why live in the crowded city when you can live in this beautiful area...guess everyone loves the city.)

We went back to England and saw Stonehedge (gotta see it), Bath (the Romans knew how to jacuzzi), the Lake District (scenic, beautiful), many more Castles that are still lived in, saw lots of pastures with lots of sheep with lots of quaint towns, pubs, and great people, then went back to town to see Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, St Pauls Church (first time we saw it it was covered in 100 years of coal dust, now it is clean inside and out after 3 years of cleaning and it looks like another place, could not believe it !) Finally made it to the British Museum, wanted to see all the Egyptian artifacts they took in the 1800's and have on display, most are so huge, and they let you touch them !
Karen taught us how to get around the underground and we a few of us spent a Saturday pubbing and walking around the riverfront, waited to go on the London Eye, lines too long....

Too many other European stops to write here, but all were amazing.

We are planning to go back to Germany, Austria and Switzerland and I REALLY want to make it to Holland to see all my friends !!!

Maybe we can get to a concert this year over there, IT'S A MUST....

    Love,
Lin xxx (who knows when to wear sensible shoes...)

Sensible shoes, indeed, Lin--I'll have you know I wore my Reeboks designed for walking the day we were in London, and my dogs were STILL barking at the end...we covered a hella lot of pavement that day. :D (And STILL didn't get to Hampstead Heath. :motz )

Overseas travel--only twice, both times to England.

2000--2 weeks. First weekend with a RED buddy in Bognor Regis, did a day in Brighton while down there, another day hanging out at a party for one of their friends, and the last on a beach on the Channel--where I got burned to a crisp with that wonderful English SUNSHINE. It was 82 F and sunny the whole day, not a cloud in the sky. Beautiful.
Then to Catford, London to set up base for the rest of the trip. Rented a room in a flat for the duration, excellent decision. Our host, Christian, was an excellent tour guide and turned us on to the charms of Eddie Izzard.
Did all the touristy stops in London. Ventured out of town to Leeds Castle (got lost in the maze and almost missed my ride back!!), Stratford-upon-Avon (HIGHLY recommend visiting the Shakespeare sights, the Teddy Bear Museum was a trip, and there's this little out-of-the-way, hole-in-the-wall fish and chip shop that served the best fish and chips I've ever had--for under 4 quid... :-D )...Burghley House near Stamford (wonderful deer park)...day trip to Manchester (did proper pub food there, delish)...

Lots of walking, lots of just soaking in the atmosphere. Got an overwhelming sense that I'd come "home". Cried my eyes out at Gatwick when I had to leave.

    Fast forward to 2005...

4 days of sheer insanity. London--Hard Rock Cafe, and hot pursuit of Almighty Shoe Leather and Perfect Love CD2. Successfully snagged our quarry.
Birmingham--New Street Station. Weren't we just here a few hours ago??? (Our portal to EVERYWHERE.) Did the Hard Rock there too.
Sheffield--Lots of losing people before the gig, chatting with the security fellas...KICK-ASS show and about the worst anticlimax you could ask for. Note to all who may wish to go there: Taxi service virtually nonexistent. Make friends with a local who has a car. NOW. :D
Birmingham, continued: VERY friendly cabbies, and LOTS OF THEM. (Sheffield, are you listening???) The NEC--one ROCKIN' house. Another smokin' set from the crew. And another meeting with Mr. Hucknall. Evidence this time. Other meetings not meant to be.
    Back to London to NOT souvenir shop (thank you kindly, Virgin Trains), and to blubber yet again at having to depart. Another solemn vow to return and another threat to overstay the visa. :-}

More travel in store this year. One destination already in mind, and more may follow. If the band doesn't come to you...

    Choral trips
Well I have gone to all my international trips as a choir member... been to choral festivals in Spain, Chile and Canada. Not much, but they were lovely (although terribly busy) trips... Saw Madrid and surroundings, the Basque Country; Santiago and Viña; and Toronto. Have a whole lot of pics but I'll have to search and scan some to share with you.

Yes, it is a brag subject and I apologise, but here goes:

1979 - Broken marriage so spent my money on my first European Bus trip to Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland & France. As well as spending (too much) time with folks near Portsmouth.
1982 - Tour of Thailand, HongKong, Singapore, Phillipines, Malaysia.
1986 - Contiki Tour (just after Chernobyl) through Germany to Denmark, Sweden, Norway. They considered cancelling it because of the fallout. I think I just glow in the night now. Contiki Tour of England, Wales, Scotland
1986 - Wedding in The Phillipines
1987 - Trip to UK to visit friends family in North Yorkshire (spent most of my time at Scorpions nightclub with the good folk from Catterick)
1992 - Trip to UK to visit friends family in North Yorkshire. (ditto to where we spent most of our time). And my first SR concert outside of Australia. July at Gateshead.
2000 - Simply Red 2000 Convention at the Hippodrome. Via San Fransisco, Singapore, Florence, Rome. Round the World ticket.
2001 - Dusseldorf for the SR Xmas Party. Then down to an unexpected overnighter in Torino (that's one of those travel stories), a week in Lucca and London.
2003 - SR in Montreux and Lucca and the UK. Driving trip from Sydney to Alice Springs, returning from The Alice to Sydney on The Ghan (train)
2005 - SR at Shepherds Bush Empire and off to Cork for a few days.

I think that's all. It says a lot about me. If I stand still too long, I might get to know myself too well.
