    The Diplomat's Dossier

I know. No picture of me. But this picture sums up my life so well... :D

The bass rig...my keen interest in low frequency sounds and those that make them. :devil
The speaker, CD player, and turntable...parts of the stereo that brings me so many fab tunes every day.
The plush fish and Beanie Baby...I like soft squidgy things. *giggle*
The books...my academic side. (All Psychology of Music books.)
    The sculpture...my artsy fartsy side.
The posters laying about and the corner of an unmade bed...the usual state of chaos my life is in, and the messy room that manifests. *laughs*
The air cleaner...I'm allergic to everything!!!
The sheer amount of crap crammed into a small space--represents my abode as a whole, you can't swing a cat in here.
The video game deck...my inner child always has time to play.
The clock...my constant awareness of time slipping away. (Also the artsy fartsy side. You don't want to know what I paid for that clock table. *laughs*)
The 'Living In Oblivion' CD that's showing...I'm an 80's kid, I came of age in that decade.
The headphones...I tune the world out a lot. Usually without meaning to. *embarrassed laughter*

Okay, the proper profile (edited again, I decided the "fill-in-the-form" thing wasn't really me...)

I'm Shannon, just hit 30 last Oct. 6th. I'm currently a graduate student doing a Master of Arts in psychology, dual concentration (cultural and organizational). Did my BA in psychology and management (double major) with human resources concentration.
I'm also a resident assistant and Life Skills instructor for National-Louis University's PACE program--a two-year postsecondary program designed for students with multiple learning disabilities/developmental delays. We give them the experience of a college dorm with a more aptitude-appropriate curriculum in the classroom, and teach them the skills they will need to live independently.

Great bunch of students, one of the best jobs I've ever had. For every time they test my patience, they melt my heart 5 times over. :-D

Spare time--listen to music mainly. Favorite band is obvious, but I have a wide repertoire. Main genres: pop, rock, jazz, fusion, some world music (Celtic and African), dance/electronica. Common thread in all I listen to--a good groove. Also enjoy sitting on this thing and keeping up with friends, traveling, reading, and going on nature walks. Latest jones is playing that bass you see above...and I think that will be with me for a long, long time. Good to be back on an instrument again. :rock

Personal life--I do not understand the concept of "home", except that England is probably the place that's felt most like one. I have had almost as many addresses as I've had years on the planet, so the romantic side has suffered--I don't stay anywhere long enough to establish something, and I have learned enough about people through my experiences that I'm VERY particular about who I associate with these days. Thankfully I wasn't silly enough to have any kids by the few boyfriends I HAVE had, no kid deserves the instability I deal with. Hoping I put down roots somewhere by the time I hit 40--I'm getting too old to deal with this crap. (Moving AGAIN in June AND September, then again when I graduate!!!! AAAAAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! :motz )

"After long, home is a place where I yearn to belong..."

That track gets me through so much...

What else moves me? A strong sense of justice and fairness, I try to adjust the unfairness of the world on a personal level every day. If I can make someone end their day happier than they started it, I can rest easy.

As I say on my LiveJournal profile, I believe in laughter and music as the most powerful universal languages. Good humor and good groove will get you through everything in this life. :D

The rest of me--a discussion for another place and time.

EDIT: Since everyone else is swallowing their pride and posting pics, here's one of myself and my "little" (by 8 years) brother:

    Warts n' all. I warned ya... :D
