    "hps" Focke Wulf plates
    Colleagues and friends,
this question is very serious for me.
I am posting here three small plates from two different Sturmböcks (Fw 190A-8/R2).
All three has the stamp „hps“. I have seen already similar plates with the „hps“ and the factory Werknummer of the aircraft. But there are just four digits. I had believe, they may have been last four digits of the W.Nr.
But none of the four numbers on these plates 5571, 5585 and 5630 match with any of the W.Nr. reported to be lost in the day and area (11th September 1944, JG 4), besides two of them (5585 and 5630) are from one the same aircraft and are different.

    Fw. Friedrich-Karl Frank (7./JG 4)

    Fhj.-Gefr. Günther Strauss (6./JG 4)

    - Please, what this may mean? Do you have any idea?
    - What the abbreviation „hps“ mean?

    Thanks, Jan

    Jan,

it´s very easy to answer ;)

"hps" is the code from producer.

Here: Fieseler Werke G.m.b.H. , Kassel

    Thanks, Jan

    Hi Jan,
The small plates with 4 numbers like 5571 hps say nothing about the real Werk Nummer. F.i. we found at one and the same crash site of Fw 190A-8/R2 of Stab Fw. Wilhelm Scheschonka (killed) 15/JG3 crashed on 14 Jan.1945 the following 6 small plates, only the last one indicating its' real Werk Nummer: 6770 hps, 7686 hps, 2 x 7708 hps, 7752 hps and 682810 HPS FW 190. Identification of German a/c is because of this always quite complicated because you have to find the 'right' plate to learn more of its exact Werk Nummer and so its identity.<
    regards,
    Peter
