    P-51 unknown part (no number)
Hi friends, the three tubes on picture below came from P-51 piloted by Lt. William M. Lewis, Jr., crashed 11.9.1944.

These were found on the impact crater while our mission with the US Army CILHI in July 2002. I do not understand their origin. You can see, they are ca 7 cm long, two of them still have a "cover" or mounting, one is without it.

it looks, tat they have something related with the air flow, on one end it has small hols around.

Material is not iron, possibly alluminum, or durall.

    Have any idea?
    Thanks, Jan

    Jan,

I checked my manual but still haven't found it..I'm sure I've seen those before !

PS: do we have winners for the engine ID?

    Regards,

    Paul

    Hi guys,

it´s similar to a duct connection with a banjo screw and a eye ring for fluids.

Maybe for the hydraulic- or fuel system

    Regards
    Nils

    Friends,

Received this answer from the son of one of the former 357th FG mechanics..(through one of their pilots):

"I got with my grandfather about the pictures. He is not sure what the top set of pieces is. He said without knowing what they attached to he cannot be sure. The middle picture is parts from the exhaust manifold. The bottom picture is an air duct."
