Everything and anything...though I do need to note: Crowded House's "She Goes On" off their album 'Woodface' sends shivers down my spine!!! BEAUTIFUL track. So well put together it's unbelievable.

A great band that will be whole no more. What a damn shame.

I have been listening to a variety of SR cd's. Right now the fave of my daughter's ( age 6 & 7) is Men & Women! On the top of their lists are, "The Right Thing" and "Infidelity" They don't HAVE to know what the words mean do they  My fave on that disc has got to be "Suffer". I would LOVE to hear Mick sing that one live! It is hauntingly beautiful.

Re: What Are You Listening To Today ?

linmark - 06.01.2006, 03:58

Ohhhhhhhhh SUFFER.....

I agree, that's a good one.
next good to play after that one is

ENOUGH....

Both very powerful ones.

Love,

night nurse - 06.01.2006, 04:06

Oh Lin~ yes Enough is also very powerful stuff. I seem to like the ones that were not big hits better than the ones that were. (granted I like them all) I am just amazed at the depth of his writing and the emotion, passion and honesty that comes thru. It is fascinating to say the least, and rare! Then throw that voice in there.........heaven.

Thats a nice thought to go to sleep on

Hi Angie,
That's why I always loved the emotion of HIGH FIVES also, the substance references, the fantastic vocals, the illusion of fantasy and regret....

Seems like there are so many songs PACKED with emotion, and release, and attitudes, and that's why so many are in our hearts....

Listening to "You Make Me Smile" glow and shine.......

Wow Michi !!

And look how many people have viewed this site now...

These are fantastic responses....

By the way...."Hey Mick, we miss your old website, we invite you here."

By the way...."Hey rest of the Band, you are welcome here too"

Thank God Michi is helping us by having this available for us to
talk to our Simply Red family members, who are all missing each other.

Love you all,

Maybe someday.......someone will come.

.....another fantastic song. So many and yes, all in our hearts.

I had to laugh as this afternoon the girls were watching the Greatest Video Hits of Simply Red and Infidelity was on. Sarah who is 7 said, "mom, I know what infidelity means" I replied, "oh you do huh?" And she proclaims, "yeah, it means Mick had alot of girls friends!"

How funny is that~ the insight of a child.

Michi~ thanks so much for setting this up and for all of you for welcoming me and everyone in.

Yes, Mick and the band~ you too are welcome here as well.

"this time it's gonna be hard for me" Oh, I can hear the cry in that voice.....

Night everyone~

B.t.w. do you know the song "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" from the Les Paul & Friends album? Mick's singing (wonderful of course) and Joe Perry from Aerosmith plays the guitar. Very bluesy...

If you like you can have a short listen: I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know

Sue, you're a party girl, aren't you?

B.t.w. Mick sang Infidelity in Hamburg and he changed a lil bit of the lyrics I think... he sang "Infidelity WAS my middle-name" ... yeah, standing directly in front of him at the stage I could read his lips :D

Re: What Are You Listening To Today ?
Sue, you're a party girl, aren't you?

Hi Michi
Yes-I suppose I am , don't quite know how I have got to be - I seem to have changed so much in the last few years , I just can't sit still! I go for everything and take up all opportunities and just live life to the full and I am having such a brilliant time. Having good friends helps, and my son is grown up so no babysitters any more which helps also.

Being close enough to read those lips must have been great!

Love Sue x

In Hamburg we had tickets for the 5th row, but as soon as Mick told us to get up and dance I made it to the pole position (once again) :devil ...still can't believe that I did it and it worked 8)
However there were no chances to do it in Köln as well as we had tickets for the tier. I didn't mind 'cause we had very good seats there and the securities wouldn't let the crowd go to the front anyway. They can be such party-pooper :motz

Suzen~great choices. I just listened to Infidelity on the way to church  Not sure what the hidden meaning in that is! Then after church it was Your Eyes and Thank You. Two incredible songs!

I am not a big Elvis fan but Suspicious Minds is my favorite song of his :)

While shopping today I heard a song REMIX that I had never heard before from one of the early albums.

I asked the sales clerk if it was satelite radio, she said NO that it was a special CD made to play in their stores !!

When I just stood there listening to the music, I am certain that she thought I was "up to something".....then I told her about the song.

I'll write it when I can remember which one it was !!

Nah, it's all good. We've got a good mix from all over, just like the "old days". It's basically the old forum regulars coming to roost and shoot off their mouths again.

--my residents driving me bonkers and my croaking back at them (DUTY NIGHT!!! WHOO-HOO!!!)
--whatever tunes I can toss in to tranquilize me (maybe some Chicago Afrobeat Project, Izit, Marcus Miller, and...maybe some of that band that hang out with this one redheaded bloke :devil  )

Thanks, Angie! Normally I would say yes (any excuse for a bassquake is a good one for me!), but my lungs are so tight and my throat so raw from barking, I have no steam to play referee tonight. I'm praying there's nothing major.

You don't want to hear me at this point, trust me. I'm relearning the instrument mostly from scratch...it'll be lots of boom but no groove just yet. Give me about a month/month and a half to get tolerable.

I love that smilie though. Shave off a bit of that goatee, and it ALMOST looks like... :D

Lin~ I too get shivers up my spine when I listen to Dave play the opening of Song For You. I would love to watch those hands as they run thru the keys! Unbelievable. Makes me want to take up piano again. I am so out of practice! Played for 15 years thru school and now haven't played in 20!

What a great picture!! And for the resizing: You don't really have to resize the pic. If you use imageshack you can put a thumbnail on the board which links you back to the original-size pic. It's described there as the code "Thumbnail for forums (1)"

For example this Code: will show a thumbnail for this pic:

What a great picture!! And for the resizing: You don't really have to resize the pic. If you use imageshack you can put a thumbnail on the board which links you back to the original-size pic. It's described there as the code "Thumbnail for forums (1)"

For example this Code: will show a thumbnail for this pic:

It may look a bit confusing but you just have to copy and paste the code from imageshack.

OK...will go back and try that, that's who's hosting the pic right now. I'll see if I can get to it and change it.

Michi, please post this photo of you on the Welcome Page also !!
I have this photo saved of you and Mick too....

Teach us how to post photos, my computer throws me in the the
dreaded "Action Cancelled" white page.....I tried several times to upload a small jpeg file in the imageShack below.

About an hour ago I heard "Come To My Aid" on the radio :o *surprised*... I already identified the song while the guy on my car radio talked some stupid nonsense over that groove. He talked about the years 1985 / 1986 and mentioned that everybody was watching Knight Rider and wanted to have a car like K.I.T.T. ... and I just thought "oh man, shut up" :devil - "can't remember I watched Knight Rider in 1985/86 and I never wanted to have a car like K.I.T.T. ... just let me hear that song"
...and then I drove home singing (quite loud and not very good) along to Come To My Aid :D

Well it sure is Angie, I was very surprised to hear you don't know Robbie Williams as he is very famous overhere in Europe!
I checked out his website and in the Spring he is touring South-Africa but in the summer it's Europe only.
I also think it's soooooooo strange not a lot of people in the U.S. know Simply Red as this band is very famous overhere for more than 20 years.
Always thought that good music would travel the world!!!
I am so sorry to say you guys miss out on sooo much, great music and great concerts.
Hopefully sometime in the near future this will chance.

Hi

Our Robbie does not seem to have been able to break through to the American market at all , despite making US his home for a few years now. He is a national institution here , huge and much loved. He was the highlight for me (well along with Madonna and Pink Floyd) of the Live 8 concert in the summer , he was brilliant , and really showed what a wonderful showman he is.
I would have loved to go and see him in the summer , but it is not possible this year, but he is on my list of 'ones to see'

JAMIE FOXX LYRICS

"Heaven"

Tell me have you heard the story
That took place not long ago
Bout an angel up in heaven
They say she up and ran away from home

Word is she had unfinished business
So back on earth she had to flea
Well you know I'm so elated
Because she's laying right here next to me

And when God woke up that morning
And he called out her name
And when she did not answer
Heaven will never ever ever be
Heaven will never be the same
[Background Vocal:] Never be the same [2x]

Always dreamed that it would happen
I just didn't know exactly when
All my life I'd been waiting for something amazing
Said it took a while but now I know
So tell me can I get a witness
If you believe in miracles
And the proof I have is living
And my life will never ever be
And your life don't have to be the...

At times it seems we take for granted
How precious life can be
Just hold on and I'm sure you'll understand it
Bringing into this world
A precious boy or girl...And when God woke up that morning
Said where has my little angel gone
And when she didn't an...answer
Heaven will never ever ever be
Heaven will never be the....same
Yeah....Yeah

i hear this song in a program from Oprah Winfrey, it is very beautiful, and this posting a dedicate to my son Bjorn.

Hi Angie

Robbie is from Stoke - on Trent UK and was in a boy-band called Take That who split up about 10 years ago (but who are actually doing some concerts together this summer - but without Robbie) If the tabloids are to be believed he has lived in L.A for about 2 years as all the celebrity / media stuff got to him over here, I think he had a relationship with Rachel Hunter whilst in LA .
Like a lot of British stars he tried to 'break through ' in America , but if you have never heard of him obviously didn't succeed!!

Right you are Angie,
I don't think many of us have heard of Robbie Williams over here, so many people have written about him, but first time I ever saw him was in the DeLovely movie, have not heard or seen him since then.

GUESS WHAT ???

Tonight there was a skating with the celeb's show with a professional/olympic skater and "rookie" skater and one of the couples skated to SIMPLY RED.....of course Mark saw it, and by the time he yelled at me to come and see it, it was over, and neither of us can remember which song it was...did anybody watch that show on FOX Network on Wednesday night ? I wish I had seen it....

gonna ask everyone I see tomorrow.

Hmmm, just from my memories of being at Rock Circus London (they stood very close together) I think Robbie is similarly tall as Mick. OK, for some this might be short, but for me it's like giants :D ... I'm about the same size as Emma Bunton (but without her famous, far too dangerous shoes)

That is cute michi :D And yes, the shoes are dangerous!

I too am vertically challenged. Only about 5 ft 4 inches on a good posture day

I have some refer to Mick as short but he is 5 ft 11 inches~ that is very tall in my book :balloon

HI

Sadly have not had personal experience of young Robbie but I have it on good authority (google!) that he is 6' 0.5'' or 184 cms.
He is a very handsome man with something a lot of ladies like - a twinkle in his eye!

Pure Class! I went to see UB40 a couple of months ago, the support act was The Wailers!! I was soooo excited, kept telling everybody who would listen that I had seen Bob Marley and The Wailers twice live many years ago. The were awesome , I have never seen such a response for a 'support act'. They came back on stage later with UB40 and did 2 numbers , Ali Campbell (UB40) said - it does not get much better than this for us-

Another UB40-Fan!! Went to 3 gigs meself at the end of last year. 2 gigs in Holland and one in Plymouth. The Wailers were amazing!! Best support act i ever saw and i think UB40 should have supported the Wailers not the other way around to be honoust. The Wailers are originaters. Gary Pine actually sounded like Bob and has got a lot of charisma. Were amazing gigs, hope to see them mroe often really. :D

Hi Dubwise

The only thing to have beaten seeing UB40 at Nottingham would have been to see UB40 in Holland - so I am very jealous now!
Not only did he sound like Bob Marley I had to do a double take a couple of times as he looked like him too - as you say it should have been The Wailers supporting UB40. I did not sit down once the whole night , danced my feet off!

Hi
Good choices Yolanda!

I have finally got the hang of a little purple thing that holds over 1000 songs that I got for Christmas (I actually got a little white thing Ipod that had to go back as my son has one and an ipod library on the computer so I couldn't have one too , you can only have one for copyright reasons which is all bizarre) so I am now listening to all sorts of wierd music . Today I have listened to Stairway to Heaven (led zeppelin) Dancing Queen Abba and High Fives Off Blue, you just press 'random' and thats what you get.
Now I just have to sort out all my old motown and soul records , they are all in a pile looking at the little purple thing, how do you get vinyl on the thingy? Answers on a postcard please!

Love Sue x

You know, I really really miss the albums and lyrics page on the SR site (of course along with all the other accessories...) So many times I have clicked on the site forgetting that the info is gone....

All those "clips" of the music and the videos.....
It's gotta be hurting potential sales when someone wants to order and cannot remember which album the song is on.... (hint hint)

Have been listening to original version of SOMETHING GOT ME STARTED.
especially the 2nd half, after "I really love you...", the exhale..........
shivers up my spine every time...

With you on that, Lin...though if you want me to dash together at least a text listing on here, let me know...I have about 85% of the back catalog (singles included), and have discographies in print through Love and the Russian Winter, so...

Sue--the way to get music on the purple thingy:

--Have a turntable hooked up to a receiver.
--Have an RCA jack you can run from the receiver to your computer.
--Have appropriate software on your computer to do vinyl rips. (It costs about $60 Stateside...I haven't bothered yet)
--Dump ripped tracks to the purple thingy as you would any other tracks you have saved on your computer.

That's the simple version...the details you'd have to work out depending on the configuration of your computer.

And to join in the topic...tonight's mishmash...mostly Lewinson back catalog (I'm so predictable!! :D )

Kylie Minogue, 'Fever'
Izit, 'The Whole Affair'
UB40, 'Labour of Love' (the disc seems to have developed some attitude though)
Ronny Jordan, 'A Brighter Day'
The Grub Street Band, 'Gravel Road' (my collector's coup for the month!! WHOO-HOO!!! :-} )

...mixed in with my students screaming at the idjits on 'American Idol'. :D

Watched and listened to Live in Italy today. I think one of my most favorite songs is Ocean! Where did it come from~ was it a "B" side to something? I don't recall seeing it on any of the albums. I remember this thread....

I didn't listen to anything in particular today, just the radio on my way into work. Best song to come on (I'm a notorious radio station hopper) was Mrs Robinson by Simon and Garfunkle.

I been listening to the radio quite a bit lately and haven't heard any SR music...think this is time for me to call up and request.

My most recent CD purchase was Queen's The Miracle. I'm slowly building up my Queen collection, I think I have about 12 CDs to go. So when I see a Queen CD, 'spesh if it's on special, I'll buy it.

Talking about specials, I also saw 'Home' for $5. Didn't buy it, though, seeing as I already have the album. Thought, 'damn', perhaps I should have bought the CD so I could rip out the pics from the album sleeve and Blu-tack them on my wall.

Funny Angie, I think his voice is very similar to the voice of Lou Reed!
Angel is one of his most famous songs so maybe you even heard it on your radio overthere?

One of my fellow RA's and myself took another out for HER birthday last night...we took public transportation so we could get properly sloshed. :P

Well, have fun reading while you burn off all that Coke... :D

How many candles are you blowing out this year, Michi? And when's your birthday? (Not so subtle hint to get on that profile. )

Well Michi and Shannon you are just having a dandy chat here :)

I LOVE Prince!!!! Have seen him in concert 2 times and Diamonds and Pears is a WONDERFUL album~ yes, very under rated indeed. Must confess that I have not listened to his newer stuff~ got sidetracked with kids the past several years and lost touch with it. Really don't want the kids singing some of his lyrics

Michi you get yourself to bed~ LOL on drinking Coke all night and being wired!

Shannon~ been jammin on that base lately??

Off to get some things done~ sleep well ladies.

Sleep? What's that? It's only 8 pm here...

Aw, c'mon, why don't you want your kids rattling off "Gett Off" or "Sexy M. F." verbatim??? :D

My bass? Sitting in the corner sulking at me for over a week of neglect. This was NOT a good week...there's a reason I went out and got hammered last night.

Which should have been MORE reason to play my bass...but I like having chunks of time to play, and I didn't have that this week...too nuts. Would have been interrupted every 5 min. :-(

Did you play any piano?

I'm guilty of neglect but I was busy~ had one daughter in the dentist for fillings 2 days and the other one was busy passing a kidney stone! What a week.

I had to laugh as I had the song Sexy M.F. in mind when thinking of the kids....can't ya just hear them at school, "hey Mrs. Jones, can we sing Sexy M.F.?"

OH MY!

You're off the hook...I'm doubling over in sympathy pain over the kidney stone!!!! And fillings, too...I hate dental drills...

"What does the M.F. stand for, children??" :devil

Back on topic...more tunes...M People, Angelique Kidjo, and...what else did I throw in there...oh yeah, Acoustic Alchemy. Grub Street Band later.

One of my students just complained about MY music. Too loud!!! What a switch, eh? (The ultimate irony--it's the student who likes putting his ghetto blaster in the north lounge and cranking it past quiet hours--I'm always riding HIS arse about volume. )

Yolanda~ I have the CD of that~ it is fantastic. I bet the DVD is super. I di wish George would have kept up with making music~ his voice is just incredible. Seems his life took him on a road wehre the music wasn't the priority. Which is fine~ but I sure do miss his pipes.

Re: What Are You Listening To Today ?

Masha~ the last one I think was Patience. I could be wrong on this though. It was not well recieved and I do recall he announced his "retirement" last year at some point. It is to bad. I think George has a huge chip on his shoulder and is angry about things in his life it seems. Since his little "incident" he has seems to have lost his edge. That soulfulness has been replaced with anger. Too bad as I always thought he would be one who could have a very long career~ such as that like Elton John and now Mick.

Re: What Are You Listening To Today ?

That's a shame about George Michael...he has the most amazing voice and awesome songwriting chops, to stop creating with that would be a crime. But he's doing what he feels he needs to, I guess...just an example of why we should savor every moment our fave musicians give us, you never know when the last will come.

In the CD changer, then...

George, 'Listen Without Prejudice'
Crowded House, 'Woodface'
The Grub Street Band, 'Gravel Road'
Lighthouse Family, 'Ocean Drive' (AWESOME band, highly recommended!!)
Tony Remy, 'Boof!'

I should have an SR marathon one of these days...been a few weeks since I did that. :D

Hi Masha~

I was busy with other things and had not been to this topic. I just wanted to respond to your last post in which you linked the comments made by Mick~ thank you for that, it is always good to read what he has to say and get some insight on what he thinks. I appreciate you for doing that :)

As for being angry~ I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with it~ heavens we all get it a bit. But holding onto anger is what eats one alive. It has to be let go of so one can move on. The incidents I speak of involving George happened in the states several years ago~ when he as arrested for lewd conduct in a public venue. It has been since then things seem to have gone downhill for him. Which I find sad~I could care less what he does behind closed doors~ or in a public park for that matter~ I just want to hear that voice!!!!! I hope some day he does find that passion again for what he does so well. His is an incredible voice to hear~ and as Shannon says~ savor what we have I guess.

On deck today~George Michael's They Won't Go When I Go.

i see Angie. thanks for coming back on that and giving me a little bit of explanation. lewd conduct is prosecuted? didnt know that. not to that extent. not with public people who , in part may be said to be living by it anyway. truly hope very much anger for life is not a diagnosis with George Michael.

Dublin - very nice city was there in June 3 days you'd love it....
especially the main center - no cars allowed....
street singers, musicians, acrobats, performers, on every corner.
great pubs, famous places, friendly people, modern city.

Today listening to new Prince music.....did anyone see him on SNL ?
have to say he was very strange......and I am a big fan.....

Ahhhhh no Gina unfortunately I wasn't there in person, the CD is just ordered through the internet.!
I went to see Simply Red 2x in Belgium in November and December and 1x in Holland in December and ofcourse not to forget we did see them in October while they we're recording this television show over here.
The second gig in Belgium was a secret showcase we've won tickets for, only 250 people in the audience so it was a nice and intimate event.
We we're very very lucky, got lots of autograhps and a few of us even a pic with Mick.
So no Dublin (although I'd love to go there once, only not at the moment  ) I'm afraid.
You we're lucky too you've seen them a couple of times in the UK didn't you?
I really have that on my wishlist, going to the UK to see Simply Red but I can't complain ofcourse because living in Europe means we do have much more chances of seeing them than you guys have.
I still cross my fingers for you though!

Something got me started
You know that I will love you
Lately since we parted
I truly know that I need you

I'd give it all up for you x 8
(Yes I would)

XXX here XXX they all sing something in spanish
(sounds like "quant in yey haro" (don't laugh) XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Totally broken-hearted
Guilty of what I did to you
Lately since we parted
I truly know that I need you

Yes I do because

I'd give it all up for you x 8 XXXXX then they sing it again here XXXXXX

linmark - 02.03.2006, 14:55

Yes, I have seen Prince live last April,
and this tour was absolutely fantastic
especially since he spoke to the audience
a lot in between songs, excellent concert !

His performance on SNL (Saturday Night Live)
on NBC was very good, great guitar solos,
but he had these 3 girls singing and dancing
and they made up the majority of the camera-time.

I really never figured out who they were, maybe
I missed their introduction, or maybe there was none,
or maybe I just was interested in Prince "only"....

I wish I had taped it because the guitar work was
worth watching again.... whatever he does seems
to be very successful....I've always been a fan.

Love,
Lin xx

TODAY IT'S GEORGE MICHAEL THAT I DUG OUT OF A PILE OF CASSETTE TAPES FOUND IN THE MIST OF MY MUSIC ROOM.
HAVEN'T LISTENED TO HIM IN YEARS AND HE REALLY CAN SING SO
WELL!!
I'M HAVING DOMESTIC PROBLEMS TODAY, IT SEEMS MY WASHING MACHINE IS NOT SPINNING FAST ENOUGH TO GET THE WATER OUT OF THE CLOTHES. OH, WOE IS ME!!
LIES AND LIN YOU ARE LUCKY GIRLS!!

Great Choice Martha Jean~ George has an incredible voice!

I listened to (and watched) the Live in Sicily DVD today. Oh what fun to see the band and Mick having a great time performing.

Re: What Are You Listening To Today ?

MARTHA JEAN - 09.03.2006, 17:03

BECAUSE I WAS SO SMITTEN BY MICK AND SIMPLY RED FOR SO LONG.
TODAY IT'S STILL GEORGE AND PROBABLY WILL UNTIL I GET SO SICK OF THE CASSETTE. OUTSTANDING!!!
WHAT A VOICE ,NOT SEEING HIM PERFORM,CAN IMAGINE HOW VERY GOOD HE IS.
BUYING AND KEEPING ALL THESE VARIOUS CASSETTES FROM YEARS GONE BY, I DIDN'T REALIZE WHAT I HAD BEEN MISSING.
THEY WERE PUT AWAY,AS MY RECORDING EQUIPMENT BROKE AND IT'S TAKEN ME TWO YEARS TO FIND ANOTHER ONE LIKE THE OTHER THAT RECORDS CD'S ON TO TAPE AND TAPE ONTO TAPE.

BEING A LATE BLOOMER, MY ATTENTION HAS MAILY BEEN ON MICK, BUT AT THIS LATE AGE, I'M DICOVERING ALL THESE OTHER ARTISTS SUCH AS GEORGE. WHO KNOWS WHO'LL BE NEXT.
I HAVE HUNDREDS OF CASSETTES FROM VERY EARLY ON THAT I COLLECTED FOR MIXING,AND HAVE FOUND I CAN BY THEM VERY CHEAP NOW. THE THING IS FINDING BLANK, GOOD NINTY MINUTE TAPES TO RECORD ON TO MAKE MY COMPOSITES.
MY NEXT MOVE WILL BE TO BUY GEORGE'S CD, BURN THREE COPIES AND PUT HIS ORIGINAL AWAY AND RECORD FROM A COPY AND MAKE SOMESORT OF MIX WITH HIS VARIOUS SONGS.

SO, AS I SAID BEFORE, IT'S GEORGE TODAY.

Anyone here want to own up to yelling, "Mick, d'you want some 'elp???" during the bit where he said the tech was "fixing his ass"??? That cracks me up EVERY TIME! :D I'd like to know who did it.

I fess up to the "ALRIGHT, STEVE!!!!!" at the beginning of "Home", after Mick introduces him. In fact, I don't just fess up, I own that one with pride. 8)

*giggles* We were smack in front of the sound desk, so my screaming, yelling, etc. is well stamped on there. Just so happened to be my/our first ever (went with Rose Tattoo and Knokkak), so the extra "proof I was there" is that much more special. :top

Glad to know your girls have good taste in music. You can never start 'em too young. :D If they like that harder edge, maybe they'd like Life as well.

WARNING: turn down the volume a lil bit before clicking that link ;) ...and don't say I haven't warned you before :devil

Poor ol' Germany :? These boys really got a record deal  and I'm sure, you can get that "song" as a ringtone too :doh

Conclusion: If you believe it can't get worse someone else is proving that black is white.

MISS MICHI,
IT WAS SORT OF A STRANGE EXPERIANCE SEEING THE GERMAN, RAP GROUP. THEY LOOKED SORT OF PREPPY AND SO DIFFERENT FROM THE RAP GROUPS THAT HAVE BEEN SHOWN HERE IN THE U.S.
THE MUSIC WASN'T OF MY TASTE, BUT IT WAS INTERESTING TO SEE
A NEW ( VERY YOUNG ) GROUP.
TODAY'S LISTINING EXPERIANCE IS " THE GREATEST HITS FROM THE 1920'S. STARTING WITH MY BLUE HEAVEN.
I LOVE MUSIC FROM ALL OF THE EARLIER DECADES, IT'S SWEET, INNOCENT AND MAKES ONE FEEL ALL WARM AND FUZZY.

" A SONG FOR YOU ", THE ORINGINAL, HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FAVORITE OF MINE .
MICK'S VERSION IS VERY SIMPLE AND HIS VOICE IS OUTSTANDING.
ALONG WITH THE FAST PACED " PERFACT LOVE" IT'S MY FAVORITE SONG ON THE SIMPLIFIED CD.

YES!!!! You've got 'em hooked young. You'll be bringing the kids to any U.S. gigs that come up, right?

I've always loved how this band attracts all ages...and speaking from personal experience, it's a band you can stick with. Got hooked at 10 and am still going strong 20 years later. :top

Oh...what I'm listening to...the Duran Duran "Live From London" DVD. Words cannot describe how much a$$ it kicks. I'm no Durannie, but these guys threw down at Wembley. Full stop. WONDERFUL to watch, and the sound is amazing. :D

Awful static on certain discs 'cause my faithful companion of almost 10 years, my beloved CD changer, is dying.

When it's in my abode, it sees at least 7 hours' use a day...sometimes up to 14 hours...
...it's been in non-climate-controlled storage through a Midwestern winter for a year...
...it's been bounced around in several moving trucks during 3 interstate moves and one intra-state, plus storage runs every summer during college...
...I know I dropped the box at least once along the way...

...so I suppose the fact that it still plays about 90% of my discs as well as the day I bought it is pretty damn cool.

And my receiver of the same vintage is still kicking a$$ and taking names. Not a stitch wrong with it.

A testament to Denon quality from a very happy owner. Will definitely get another of their CD changers to replace this one--despite the same $300 price tag... (It DOES come with more bells and whistles these days though. :D ) Hopefully I can be kinder to the next one--as far as moving and storage anyway...the playing, I'll still expect it to be a workhorse.

That said, Kylie Minogue's 'Fever' is disturbing the neighbors at the moment, static-free. :D

SASRED, BOY, DO I KNOW THAT FEELING!!
I'VE BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH WITH MUSIC EQUIPMENT!
I JUST FOUND A SEMI, DECENT UNIT THREEE MONTHS AGO AND HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR TWO YEARS!
THEN YESTERDAY, WHILE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE IN MY OVER STUFFED CLOSET, I FOUND MY OLD ( VERY FUNCTIONAL) UNIT. IT'S PROBABLY
TWENTY YEARS OLD, BUT NEVER GAVE ME A PROBLEM. SO, NOW I WILL TRY AND AND FIND A C.D. PLAYER TO HOOK UP TO IT.
HERE IN THE OFFICE, I JUST HAVE A CHEAP BOOM BOX AND IT JUST KEEPS GOING DAILY.
ALL MY OTHER ( SERIOUS ) MUSIC EQUIPMENT IS IN THE ONE OF MY TWO BEDROOMS, THAT I CALL THE MUSIC ROOM. I SPEND AT LEAST AN HOUR A DAY, MIXING.
MUCH LUCK FINDING YOUR CD CHANGER.
AS I SAID IN ANOTHER SITE, MY DVD PLAYER DIED YESTERDAY, SO IT'S OFF TO FIND ANOTHER ONE SOON.
FONDLY, MARTHA JEAN

Re: What Are You Listening To Today ?

sasred - 11.04.2006, 20:33

Good luck finding a DVD player to suit your needs, Martha! And good that you found that trusty old equipment. I'm sure it'll get some use.

Already have my new changer picked out, thanks to http://www.usa.denon.com/ --but will still go "audition" it, found a dealer that has their two main models in stock. Will go play this weekend. :-D

Also good to know that I can keep getting their stuff in the UK if I ever move over there--a bit different lineup, but still plenty to choose from.

Re: What Are You Listening To Today ?

MARTHA JEAN - 12.04.2006, 15:06

YOUR NEW EQUIPMENT LOOKS....
ROCKIN!! WOW, IT LOOKS SERIOUS AND PRICEY. BUT IT WILL BE WELL WORTH IT IF YOU'RE AS SERIOUS ABOUT MUSIC AS I AM. ( AND I THINK YOU ARE.)
I WILL KEEP MY FINGERS CROSSED THAT YOU WIN THE BID.
TRYING TO THINK ABOUT HOW I WAS GOING TO FIND SOMEONE TO HOOK UP MY OLD MUSIC UNIT, AND MY DVD THAT I FOUND IN THE CLOSET. I REMEMBERED THIS MAN THAT I MET AT ONE OF MY HAUNTS THAT I GO TO FIND USED MUSIC. HE LOVES MIXING AS MUCH AS I DO
AND HAS TONS OF EQUIPMENT. I TOOK HIS NUMBER AND DUG IT UP YESTERDAY. CALLING HIM, HE WAS MORE THEN HAPPY TO COME OVER AND HOOK EVERYTHING UP. I'LL HAVE TO PAY HIM A FEE , BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT TO HAVE MY MOVIES GOING THIS WEEKEND AND THE TRUE SOUND OF MY MUSIC COMING FROM MY VINTAGE UNIT.
HE CAN'T COME UNTIL FRIDAY, BUT I FEEL HOPEFUL THAT ALL WILL WORK OUT.
I LOVE WORKING WITH THE MACHINES, BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO HOOK THEM UP. EVEN AS A LITTLE GIRL I WAS NEVER GOOD WITH PUZZLES.
PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED AND AGAIN, I WISH YOU LUCK. FONDLY, MARTHA JEAN

My new musical companion is home! The winner of the bench test:

http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/1945.asp

Turns out I don't need to replace my 'Ladies and Gentlemen' George Michael set after all. Good thing, it was the UK version... :D

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...tuuuuuuuunes....happy mod. :balloon :top

Best bit--cost me $200 with tax! That's $100 less than I paid for my old one back in '97!

*laughs* I realize that's more than a lot of people spend on their entire audio system, but look at it this way--I'm no TV watcher. It's been a couple of weeks since I've even turned the boob tube on. For what most folks pay for about 4 months of cable, I will get at least 10 years of the musical enjoyment that sustains my days. It's all about priorities.

What's in:
George Michael, 'Ladies and Gentlemen' (UK), disc 2 ("As" is a SLAMMIN' track, so is "Outside"!)
Duran Duran, 'Greatest'
Jean Toussaint's Nazaire, 'The Street Above The Underground'
Tony Remy, 'Metamorfollow-G'
Weather Report, 'Heavy Weather'

More later, I'm sure. Gotta break this bad boy in. :devil

We are indeed. Blessed to have the gift of hearing, and to have access to ways of enjoying it.

Moody Blues--"Nights in White Satin" (full version)--very nice. But "Your Wildest Dreams"--that is one of my all-time top 5 tracks by ANY artist. Only "Holding Back The Years" beats it in the entire decade of the 80's, as far as I'm concerned. LOVE IT. :D :top What's your fave by them, Martha?

Nights In White Satin does it for me (play it on my piano).

Prince's new CD
strange title, just as bad as the symbol he used as a name.

At first listen, didn't think much of it....
but after listening a second time, I liked quite a few cuts.

Of course, will be great LIVE in concert....

It's Prince. Threads of vintage.

Listening To...
Would you believe a big music fan like me would not be listening to any music for weeks on end including SR?????

Such a shame but I was getting a little bored listening to certain CD's every day. Not the SR CD's but ones other groups. And then my company moved to an office building that is only 15 minutes away from home instead of 45 minutes so I stopped listening to the music in the car too!!! And where my desk is at work now, I have too many people sitting around me that they complained about the music. So I had to stop listening! What was I thinking???? I miss DA MUSIC!!!!

Alright I am now listening to Simply Red.....It’s Only Love.
Wow it's good to here Mick's voice again!!! :D

Hi again,
Black Sweat was one of my fav's also. I don't listen to the radio much so I didn't know which cuts they released. I did see him on SNL a few weeks ago, the guitar riff was worth seeing.

Best Buy had it on sale for only $8.98...what the hell ??
and it was the last night of the sale, and the bin was FULL of CD's.
(almost like nobody bought any...)

I had it on my list, but instead purchased a DVD concert of Aerosmith from 2005 unedited, and a new release of old material from Rick James Super Freak concert circa 1980's just re-recorded and released.

I had heard the entire Prince CD and shrugged it off....but then a few nights ago I heard it again after reading some promising reviews and took another look. I may borrow somebody's and just pick off the songs I liked.

Buy it ? Guess it's the first Prince CD I didn't buy the first day released.

Almost think PINK's new album is more interesting....
I digress.....my range in music changes by the minute, but always goes back to SR.

LOL!!! I'm so addicted to music that I needed it back in my life. I really cannot live without it. Actually, during this time I was mostly listening to talk radio stations and once in a while the smooth jazz station. So I was still listening to a little music just nothing from my CD collection. I know now why I don't listen to more R&B--at least the ballads...

James Ingram. "I Don't Have The Heart".

BEAUTIFUL song. He wrenches every drop of emotion out of it and releases it in waves with his voice....

...but it's so SAD!!! *blubber* *sniff* *HOWL*

Now why can't singers of today elicit that kind of emotional release? Except for Mick, of course--and I'll fess I'm having a hard time locking into him right now 'cause he's all about the fluffy, flowery, head-over-heels-in-love vibe at the moment. Top 40 seems to be all about angst, whining, anger--or just plain shallow.

Then again, I'm not looking too hard. Too busy accumulating all the sounds from "my era" and back!!! And getting into some non-mainstream stuff.

Gotta get more of these great singers though. Luther Vandross, Aaron Neville, James Ingram, Peabo Bryson--yes. Any others anyone might care to recommend?

MY DEAR DIANADI,
MAY AN OLD LADY ( DIANA WAS A LADY.), MAY I MAKE SOME SUGGESTIONS?
ONE NEEDS CERTAIN THINGS IN THIER LIVES THAT MAKE THEM HAPPY AND PRODUCTIVE AND MUSIC IS OURS.
CARVE YOUSELF OUT TIME WHEN AND WEREEVER YOU CAN.
I'M SUCH A LUCKY GIRL, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO INCORPREATE MUSIC IN MY WORK. TAUGHT DANCE FOR A LONG TIME, I PUT ON SUNDAY DANCES FOR THE SENIORS AND HAD A PRECHOOL WHERE WE BOOGIED DOWN TO JERRY LEE AND ELVIS.
KNOWING YOU ARE SO BUSY, TRY AND HAVE IT WHEN YOU COME ON OUR SITE. I LOVE TO WRITE AND AM SPURDED ON BY IT.
TAKING SHOWERS OR BATHS.... MUSIC. IN THE CAR, EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO WEAR EARPHONES.
PUT IT ON WHILE YOUR CLEANING, SORTING OR DOING ANY DOMESTIC
CHORE.
TRY AND FIT IT OR YOU'RE GOING TO GO BONKERS!!
I SENSE THAT MOST , IF NOT ALL OF US IN THIS SITE ARE DRIVEN BY OUT MUSIC.
MAKES ME FEEL SO WARM AND FUZZY THAT OTHERS UNDERSTAND THE POWER BEHIND THE GREAT ART,AS MUSIC.
CLOSE YOUR EYES AND SOAK IT IN WHENEVER YOU CAN.

Hmmmm... I think this is my first reply to this topic -- I've had EWF playing in my car CD player for the last few days. That is another group with a great brass section. I don't think I have a favorite song of theirs -- everything is good.

Sing a song, it'll make your day :D :D

The ("brassy") Rose Tattoo

Re: What Are You Listening To Today ?

sasred - 07.05.2006, 07:40

Earth, Wind, and Fire--yes. Killer brass section!! Still need to snag their 'Best Of'. Though there's actually some 2-disc anthology I'm eyeballing instead.

Any of you store music on your computer? The last few days, I've thrown the contents of my main music folder into Windows Media and hit "Shuffle"...

...the little counter at the bottom with total time? 192 HOURS!!!! Enough in that folder to go for 8 days straight.

That's just one folder in 'The Music Stash' (for those that might have seen my screencap in that one topic). Simply Red (just the CD B-sides), Rush, and all the Lewinson sessions I have so far all have their own folders in there.

So what's the Shuffle been pickin'? Lots of Barry White, Lisa Stansfield, various drum and bass artists (throwing J Majik at me at the mo'), and some of my best 80's tunes. Interesting blend, but it works.

I believe if I understand it right it was written for the "girl that I lost when I was blue" whom he now has back :) Everytime I hear it I just can't help but be happy for him. And how genuine to say thank you for love~ it is something we should all do more often.

I always listen to some form of Simply Red as I am on my way to meet my friend for our early morning runs. This morning it was the "Men & Women" album which I think was one of their best. I just love the youthful timbre of Mick's voice and I can picture all the video's that go with the songs. So~ at 4:30 am I am blasting "Shine" in the parking lot where I meet my friend. It's always a great way to get me ready to run! After the run it was "Maybe Someday" which is Mick at his most vulnerable and heart wrenching. I would love to see some of these older songs done live. Sheesh ~ I would love to see ANY of his songs done live. Maybe someday....Mick will come to the US

However, hearing things like "Life In A Northern Town" by Dream Academy is fantastic! Every song seems to bring a memory with it. Wonderful.

Love the Lyric: Praying hard as your lifetime goes by.......

Well this morning it was Home, Fake and Sunrise before my run. After that I turned on the radio and Sunrise was just starting on the EZ Lite channel so I listened to it again. Makes me want to get out the Live in Sicily DVD and watch. I may have to as I LOVE hearing Mick sing in Italian and Ocean is by far one of my most favorite songs.

Sorry for not responding you ya sooner but I was away on vacation when you posted this. Thanks for the support. You gave me some good ideas on how to get back into the music grove. It helped!!! I'm back to listening to the music again as much as I can. I’ve been listening to it when I drive to work even though the ride is short and while cooking or doing house work. I would usually leave the TV on while doing this stuff but now I pop a CD into the stero. It’s more relaxing and I seem to get the chores done sooner. I must never stop the masic again!!! btw: radio is not only filled with too many commercials,
it's boring, and without any good chemistry...

ever since I learned to burn CD's I make my own music list
and hardly ever turn on the radio except to hear the traffic report
or see if a storm is on the way....

for new music, I check the music stores and sample every song on each new album to see if anything sounds good, also rely on people's suggestions and try them out too.

Quite a few talk radio and country stations too but besides that, the rest is Top 40 or AC. I don’t listen to them because there are too may commercials or play a lot of teenie bopper music. The only station I really listen too is the Smooth Jazz Station and as much as I like Smooth Jazz, I can only listen to for so long. I need my rock music!!!! Awesome stuff to listen too...

Safri Duo consists of Uffe Savery & Morten Frlis a Danish percussion duo who started out playing and eventually recorded several CD's of mostly percussion interpretations of classics from Bach, Chopin and many others. They eventually decided to create their own music after being signed to a major record label. This new music is a mix of both tribal sounds and modern electronica. I first saw them on MTV about four years ago in their music video for their song "Played-A-Alive". I went out and got their 1st dance orientated CD Episode II and I've been hooked ever since!!! Very modern, worldly, fun & fast music. Check them out! http://www.safriduo.dk/

Picked up that album while I was in the UK. Smokin' stuff!!!! :top

I'm glad you like it Shannon. :-D What's your favorite so far and what do you think of Steve's bass playing on it? I know brilliant! 8)

SMILES :-D
DIANAD

You know, Diana, it's hard to tease out what's his bass playing and what's keyboard bass...I'm not sure what effects pedals Steve used, if any. For some of those lines, he would have had to use pedals to attain those tones. I'll have to ask him about it. But 'Bloodlock' sounds like straight bass to me...good line, that...other faves from the album (if I recall, only listened once so far!!) are 'Magnetic North', 'Cloud Cuckoo', and...crap, can't remember if I like 'Immortal' or 'Fundamental' more. Will have to listen again!!!! :D

Steve's an excellent "pocket player", in bass player's parlance...he's not a flashy soloist, but he can lay down a nice solid groove for the band and the listener to ride on. He and Pete are alike in this regard...they both lay down tight groove, adding just the right flourishes here and there to keep it fresh. That's why I like them both so much as musicians. A track's nothing without a decent rhythm section.

I'll quit gushing now. I could go on for ages. If you want a listing of the other sessions these two have done, PM me with request. :D

It's been a while since I watched it, but yes, at some points it's sad... it's about Ray's life and that hasn't been easy all the time. Maybe you could lend the movie in a video store?! It's really worth watching it ... last but not least because of this wonderful music.

*laughs*
Yeah...my brother got my computer rockin' again (since I can't use his home system for my choons)...but he put a stipulation on it last night:

"I don't care what you listen to...but please no Simply Red. Two or three tracks, and that's it."

Why? Did I make you sick of it when I still lived at home?

"Yup."

His bed was against my bedroom wall for years...and he WOULD have to endure it when I cranked the bejeezus out of my stereo...:devil

*shrugs* Guess he's not a convert then. :D

(So I've got the SR cranked now while he's in class. :top)
