Hello European Ultimate-Juniors,
Below are just two junior Ultimate dates that should be placed into your
Calendar this year. European Ultimate-Juniors should be able to choose from
several events each year to test their skills and to see where they stand
compared to other teams or other countries - here are two excellent events!
I can imagine a few top junior events each year at which NATIONAL OR
ALL-STAR TEAMS from different countries can play against each other in
preparation for Worlds or European Championships. The goal of these events
is to get the best junior players playing against each other at the highest
possible level. This could include the Paganello Beach tournament (see
below) and at least one official EFDF junior event every year.
I can also imagine Junior-Ultimate events being played on a regional basis
by CLUB TEAMS. The goal of these events is to encourage grass-root growth
and to get new players playing the game. To do this, it is important to
establish several junior events that take place before August each year on a
European basis. These events should take place in the regions where the most
junior teams are located to assure good participation and to provide
competition for those teams travelling larger distances. These events would
be considered club team events at which all-star or national teams would be
discouraged. These events would be perfect for newer teams to test their
skills against other clubs from other regions. This already includes the
Pfingst Tournament (see below) which began last year near Heilbronn with 20
teams from throughout Europe. The question is - what other regions have
several teams (4-6 Teams) within a 200 kilometre radius and are planning to
host a tournament in 2006? Please let Europe know by inserting your event at
the new EFDF site www.ultimate-juniorsa.org in case other European club
teams are looking for a good tournament to visit.
1. Paganello Beach Tournament
Type of Event: All-Star or National Teams
Date: 15.-17. April 2006 (Three days of Ultimate)
Location: Rimini, Italy
Format: Beach, 5 vs. 5

The classic Paganello Beach tournament organization in Italy is supporting
the establishment of a junior division at the 2006 event. The junior
coordinator Gegè (eugenio.festa@paganello.com) has convinced me that the
tournament coordinators are interested in making this division a highlight
of the Junior Ultimate schedule in Europe every year. Their goal is to
present the best Junior Ultimate possible at reasonable cost for 8
international junior teams in 2006. We agreed that to attract the best
European junior players we should encourage the formation of pick-up teams
from as many countries as possible. Participation will NOT be limited to one
team per country so express you interest as soon as possible.
2. 2nd Pfingst Junior Open Tournament
Type of Event: Club Teams
Date: 03.-05. June 2006 (Three days of Ultimate)
Location: Massenbach, Germany (near Heilbronn)
Format: grass, 5 vs. 5

This tournament is designed to offer the best junior competition for club
teams from around Europe. The emphasis is not on the super athlete or
all-star team, but provides an opportunity to play with your own team
against players of the same age and ability level. We will be playing in at
least two age groups (under 15 years and under 20 years). Last year we were
proud to welcome 20 junior teams from 5 countries in three age divisions.
The many junior teams in the Heilbronn region invite teams throughout Europe
to join them for three days of Ultimate play. Hosted by Juniors for Juniors!
