Hi to all,
with some informations from an older man i have found some wreckparts from a P-47 thunderbolt in a forest area just some kilometers away from my hometown. After second searching i have found more than 90 parts....ca. 15 parts continuing Stamps an part-numbers 89P... 89C...
this P-47 was shot down by a german fighter in Februry-april 1945, near the village Winterscheid(east) and Ruppichteroth(west).
the pilot dies by impact and was found near the crashsite...but no more information about the pilot.
also found some duralparts with red colour-markings ..(nose-art?)
who can help with informations to this P-47 crashsite?

hi,
part number with "89" indicated a P-47D
The letter "C" in the part numbers indicated parts from the centre section of the wings

Hello,
Sure you found a P47 ... Your job now is to read all the losses listing for each Fighter Group wich flew over the area during WW2 wich could include 8 AF, 9 AF, 12 AF and French Air Force.
You need to look for evidences of the crash (eye-witnesses) wich could help to definite a date (or just a month, or a week) ... All this will take lot of time !
Then, perhaps some of us could help ...
The red color on part could come from parts of the plane (Wings, nose ....) and is not necessary from any nose art.
Good luck and be patient ! I 've spent 3 years before i could identify the last P47 i found ... but what a plaesure to do the search !

Hello stephane´,
about the P-47-crashsite we have found all informations now.
P 47 D 27 RE , 48th FG / 492 FS ( red markings and red-white checker-nose)
lost 5.4.1945, hit by flak during attacking a V-1-base in a forest, near winterscheid.
Pilot: 1st LT. Charles E. McDaniel ( KIA)
