    Contact?
Do you know any email contact to him? I wrote him a message to his myspace site, but do not know that he get it or not.
Neither of his films available in my country Hungary unfortunately.
On his website there is no email address to where I could write to him.
    Help me if you can.
    Thanks
    In Peace
    Peregrin

I will let him know that you tried to contact him. He was very busy and wasn´t even home, so he may not have been online that often. Most of his movies are not available back here in Europe, but you are not the only one who is looking for his movies. I will try to cooperate with Chris or his production companies to get the movies over ... we are still working on finding distributors and I was thinking about petition lists ... but yet I haven´t had any time to work on it.

Is it a very private message you´ve sent to Chris? Otherwise I can forward your message to him ... if you want me to.

    Thanks Anne, you are kind.
No, I just wrote him that I appreciate his work, and just saw his film Skins, which is so sad that not available to others in my country and asked him that maybe he could let me know why, so I wish him good etc
The whole message lost, because of myspace, but I could write another and if you could forward it to him, that would be so kind of you. Is it possible?
I like his work, and it is really sad that I and others in this country could not see most of his work, or the whole at all.
    Thanks.

Most of European people can´t see his movies! Besides one orders the movies in the States! It´s a shame, but it´s all about money and as long as there are no distributors found for the European market it will stay like this.

Send your message to my email address and I will forward it to him - no problem!

    Thanks Anne, I will.

It is not a good thing, I found that for example the Skins is available in Spain, but not in other European countries. And not in every country people could order it from the net, not in my country, and I think it is maybe because of some safety problems or previous bad cases, it was told me by my brother. So in Germany the case is not better?

One need to find distributors who will pay for the dubbing or a production with subtitles for each country. Germany is VERY bad in this ... I know that Dreamkeeper is available in Holland, for example! It´s a money thing and there is nothing we can do about it. That´s why I was thinking about petition lists ... on the other hand dubbing can destroy the movies! A lot of the original sense gets lost. I remember watching "Smoke Signals" in German and the Indian humor totally got lost !!! Same with some movies with Nathaniel Arcand: the original version finally made sense to me - LOL. Anyway, I would love to see more of the NA movies in Europe and I will work on it! But I will need your help.

I will help if I could for sure. :)

Dubbing is bad I think it too. But they use to do it here too.
And the people here, who do not speak english well, they are too lazy to read the subtitles so they like dubbed films.
It could be enough for the European countries that we could see NA films with subtitles, so they do not have to do the dubbing.
Here they showed Dreamkeeper on the TV at once years ago, on the Hallmark channel, because it is a hallmark production. Thats all.

dubbing depends on the country. Germany is only selling dubbed versions !!! In HOlland you´ll get the version with subtitles - I don´t know about the other countries ... we don´t even have a Hallmark Channel

Can you all not order from Amazon.com? I thought that was universal. Seems odd that you can talk to someone halfway across the world, but you can't get a movie shipped to you.

The shipping is not the problem. To order at Amazon.com one need to have a creditcard, if it´s International shipping. The shipping is VERY expensive (sometimes one pay more on shipping than for the movie itself) and then you also need to pay customs! I remember I had to pay like 12 USD for the customs when I ordered ITW for Idril in 2006. It really doesn´t make sense to pay like 50 USD for a movie like BMHAWK !!! And that is the problem ... and if someone doesn´t speak English that good it´s sometimes hard to understand what the actors are saying, depending on their dialects and how fast they are speaking. Even I have to watch movies like three times to get all the words! So dubbed versions for Europe would be much better in some cases. More people would be able to watch the movies ... and as long as these movies are not available in Europe how could they become more popular?

There's also an amazon.de and .fr, the shipping won't be that expensive then, right??

    newnativspirit - 06.01.2008, 12:08

but you can´t get the movies at amazon.de

yep, it is right, and it is very very sad :(
and I cannot recommend these things from amazon to my friends who cannot speak english.

    I enjoyed reading this:

Eyre Talks of New Movie, Hollywood Stereotypes
    By Kevin Abourezk
    REZNET's Red Clout Blog:

LINCOLN, Neb. - Chris Eyre, the prominent Native filmmaker, stopped by a Lakota language class here recently to debunk stereotypes, share his favorite Native movies and leave his audience in stitches.

The director and producer of "Smoke Signals," "Skins" and "Edge of America" spoke on a range of topics - from mainstream society's fixation on the dying Indian to his latest movie, "Imprint," a supernatural thriller set on South Dakota's Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Eyre, an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe of Oklahoma, was in Lincoln Nov. 20 as part of the VisionMaker Film Festival, which was hosted by Native American Public Telecommunications.

As a filmmaker, he said, he has avoided creating movies that depict Native people as victims of manifest destiny, a theme too often explored by Hollywood.

"It's a literally romantic notion to see Native people dying," he said.

But he doesn't blame Hollywood, which he says is simply giving film-goers what they want - an unevolved vision of Native people.

"It's not about studios making changes," he said. "It's about people accepting us."

For his part, he has attempted to portray Native people in all his movies as honestly as possible, he said. That's his obligation as a filmmaker and an artist, he said.

And it's put him in the crosshairs of those who don't like to see negative portrayals of Native people.

For example, his movie "Skins" - about two Oglala Sioux brothers at odds because of one of the brother's alcoholism - raised the ire of some who didn't like seeing Native alcoholics on film.

"People were really upset about the portrayal of Native Americans in that movie," he said.

The difference between his portrayal of Rudy, the alcoholic brother, and other mainstream Hollywood portrayals of alcoholic Indians was that he showed Rudy as a human being, not just an alcoholic, he said.

To ignore the fact that Native people struggle with alcoholism is to ignore the true condition of Native people, he said.

Speaking about his new movie, "Imprint," Eyre said it cost him just $150,000 to produce, compared to $5 million to produce "Smoke Signals." The biggest difference between the two films' costs? He used digital video to shoot "Imprint," versus film to shoot "Smoke Signals."

"Imprint" is about an Oglala attorney prosecuting a Native teenager in a controversial murder trial who returns to the reservation to visit her dying father. While home, she begins having ghostly visions and embarks on a quest to discover their meaning.

Unlike his previous movies, Eyre said, he did very little directing on "Imprint," leaving most of that to director Michael Linn. He focused much of his effort on producing the film.

"I was more distant than all my other work," he said.

For his next film project, Eyre wants to tackle a comedy.

"I'd like to do a re-make of ‘Little Big Man,'" he said. "That was the best movie."
