1. Describe Jake´s appearence and thoughts at the beginning.
Jake was freshly shaven, well dressed and he weared his best ball shoes. He was excited before meeting his wife after a long time.
2. What us Jakes reaction when he first sees his wife?
He was shocked. His wife looks slovenly dresses in a brown jacket and skirt of grotesque cut and her hair was covert under a big wig of a pitch plack color.
She had increased.
3. Why is Gitl shocked whem she sees her husband?
She is shocked because her husband lookes noble. Freshly shaven and elegant. She cant´t believe that the man she sees, really her Jekl is.
4. What is the childs reaction?
The child did not care to look at his dad. It turned his frightened little eyes and baried them in his mothers cheek. When Jake tried to kiss his son, the son burst out crying and fell to kick his fahters chest. Jake tried again but hsi son proved too nimble for him.
5. What, for a moment, brings the two close together?
When both set down their burdens, they flew into an embrace and the fell to kissing each other. After that both had a feeling of estrangement. Jake was quenched from Gitl´s strong odors.
6. What impresses Gitl?
That Jake looks like a nobleman. She could not realize that this stylish young man was her Jake, who was in this three years never been absent from her mind.
7. What problem does the wig pose for Jake?
The problem is, that in America nobody wears wigs. He tried to make her clear that she have to put the wig off because now they are living in another world.
8. Why doesn´t Gitl want to ride in a horse car?
She saw horse cars in Hamburg and knew that no orthodox jew would use them on the seventh day.
9. How does Jake feel about his wife at the end?`
Jake getting kindly disposed toward her.
10. What is the irresistible pun?
The irresistible pun is a wordplay. As Jake named the eating “dinner” she understands “thinner” and asked what if someones become fatter.
11. What customs of orthodox Judaism do you learn about?
• The seventh day is a holy day.
• Jewish women often wear wigs or kerchiefs.

I thing all customs will be doned after a time.
