In November! It's just for a weekend, but hey, it's London!!! :D I hope, it will work, because right now the minister has to allow us to leave the country. But I don't see why he or she shouldn't allow it. :wink:

Yeah. We have to high level courses in english. I'm in the first one. And the second one wants to fly to London in november. I asked if I could join them (and informed my classmates about it)and my teacher liked the idea and said I could join them.
But because the ministry allows only one tour for pupils in year 12 and 13 (and as you know I jave been in Berlin last schoolyear) and officially we're not allowed to leave the country, we have to wait for the minister to allow us to go to London.
Can you understand this? It's a bit hard to explain for me... :?

Because the ministry doesn't want us to leave Germany. I don't know why, but I think it's for safety reasons.

sorry, but this sounds strange to me ... nobody can tell you not to leave the country !!! I think it´s more a money thing ...

If you think about London and what's going on there right now... I can understand if the ministry doesn't want us to leave the country for safety reasons. I don't think it's a money-thing, because we have to pay for everything ourselfs.

Make sure you visit the Tower of London while you're there! It is expensive though.

Congrats Idril- I hope you get permission from the minister to take the class trip. I know you will enjoy the cultural lesson, and not just the pubs!!
BTW- you mentioned grades 12 and 13; how long do you go to school in Germany? Not including the University level I mean. Here in the States we go from Kindergarten (age 5 or 6) to 12th Grade (age 17 or 18), then onto college from there. I've heard that in England the kids only go until age 16- is that true??

I have to go to scholl for 13 years, but those years will be only 12 soon. I think in England they have 12 or 13 years, too, but I'm not sure.

plus Kindergarten starts in an earlier age over here ... they go there when they are 3 y/o - even earlier if needed. In Emma´s Kindergarten there are babies only a few months old ... but in the age of three the kids have to go - then primary school in the age of 6 for 4 years - after that there are 3 different levels to choose from (Gymnasium, Realschule and Hauptschule) Gymnasium can be seen as High School. Realschule is the next level and the worst is Hauptschule ... does this make sense to you? To explain the German school system is always giving me a hard time. Realschule is done after 10 years of school and Hauptschule is done after 9 years, Gymnasium after 13 years.
