It´s a typical "nose art" of american aircrafts (fighter and bomber), with the national emblem from the enemy, this show the number of downings.
If a bomber shoot down a enemy aircraft, you can see the german emblem and the number of bombs near the nose art.

    here a link: http://www.airventure.de/nose-art_02.htm

It´s only a nose art. But you can ask on the http://forum.armyairforces.com/ for more details. There are some specialists for nose arts, I think it´s possible to find the unit or the right aircraft from this item

:n156: is there any part number's on the rear of the panel as this may help to ID type of aircraft.

    Hi,
This part indicates badge of 303 (Polish) Squadron with victory marks. It's coming from some Spitfire I guess. The victories and such badge were painted near windshield or on the engine (near exhaust). I don't think it could be a Hurricane used with 3'o'3 too.

    Good work Pawel, :n108:
here is a link to a 303 website. the emblem on that site is almost identical to the one in Mig Mans photo, there must have been variations of the badge

Oh yes, there were, many. The emblem originally was used by 7th Fighter Flight during Polish-Bolshevik War in 1920. After the war, the Flight was renamed as 111 Fighter Flight and based at Warsaw until 1939 http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/111_Eskadra_My%C5%9Bliwska - sorry, it's in Polish] . The 303.Squadron was formed up in GB and took part in Battle of Britain. The badge differed in details, depending on period of time and type of aircraft. After 1945, the emblem was not in use until probably early 1990s, when it became oficial badge of the 1. Fighter Regiment Warszawa's 1st Flight. It was renamed into 1st Tactical Squadron [http://www.1elt.minskmaz.pl/] a few years ago, still with the same emblem.

Unfortunately this is a fake. This panel doesn't correspond to any panel on a Spitfire and the badge would have been located on a wooden panel on a Hurricane.

One clue that leaps out is that there is paint inside the rivet holes and on top of corrosion. If original the paint would have been applied after the rivets and whilst the item was new enough to have no corrosion. It's sad that these panels are often bought for high prices by people who accept that they're genuine without doing the small amount of research required to realise that they're fakes.
