The strange guest is often the Googlebot, which seems to have been quite fond of this place from the first moment. Maybe I should talk it into joining?

Yes, Dave, it is. Several people - including you - have come up with ideas on how to get this place up & going again (most of those ideas sounds strikingly similar, btw :D ), so as you've noticed, certain steps have been taken...

the googlebots are automata constantly surfing the Net, looking for new stuff, changes or page updates. That's how Google keeps its searches uptodate. All search engines have something similar.
And no; the googlebots are not human, although I've always visualized them something like the Borg from Star Trek :-D
