    How about a welcome forum?
I know we already have small talk and whoring, but most forums have a place where people can come in once they've joined and officially introduce themselves.

    Might be nice.

It does sound like a good idea, but from experience, I think it will end up like YT's newbie forum, which is headache central.

Nah...if people feel the need to say 'Hi! I'm <insert handle here>! I like this so far!' let them do it in newbies.

I like this idea also this way we will know all the new people.
Also when they people post we can all say hi and so on, they might feel more welcome and post more than once.

WOuldn't that get grouped into the small talk forum, could you put like a global up there with a welcome to all the newbies that says like, Say hi and make small talk here.

d503 that sounds like a good idea also.

If there is a welcome forum, I suggest this picture be used as the symbol.

    I agree, great idea!

Yeah.. I agree, we don't need it.. People just start posting here.. They don't need a welcome forum. After all, we all mostly know each other!

I'm considering making a start page, from which you can jump directly to the forum, or read FAQs and stuff from the "NEWS" section. But I'm not sure; for most of us it means the slight annoyance of one more mouse click.

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    pamplemousse - 06.06.2005, 02:37

Why don't you just put a big bar at the top that includes something like:

    Newbie Introduction------FAQ's (read these!)-------------Site News

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 06.06.2005, 02:40

Have you read the FAQ's here? From what I can see, they are just generic FAQ's, so it wouldnt really matter if they read them or not, especially when there's very little rules here.

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    pamplemousse - 06.06.2005, 02:42

I'm thinking we could have a non-technical FAQs on the bar. What's allowed here that usually isn't elsewhere, as well as where we draw the line.

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 06.06.2005, 02:48

That could be a good idea. But like the others have said, it would also go well in small talk. So, you could have a constant thread in News where they have the less technical FAQ's, but still have the global message under Small Talk.

Also, speaking of the FAQ's and rules, I know that there's no swear filter rule thing here, but I think that members who have names like 'fuck_you' shouldnt be allowed.

I didn't like that one either. In fact, for some strange reason I was offended by it, which is kinda out-of-character for me.

Being almighty, I DO have the power of making certain names unavailable, and I DO feel like doing exactly that, but it wouldn't be in line with the overall philosophy of the site :-(

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 06.06.2005, 03:10

It didnt offend me, but I just had higher hopes that people would be more mature then to abuse the lack of a swear filter purely for the fact that they can.

I thought we were more mature then that, because so far there hasnt really been much swearing, whereas on other site, you would have wankers posting nothing but swearing.

And of course, the end decision is yours to make. But I still don't think swearing should be allowed to go as someones screen name.

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    pamplemousse - 06.06.2005, 03:30

I feel the same as Ben. It shouldn't be banned anymore than immaturity or stupidity should be banned, but that doesn't mean we can't frown upon them.

Imagine how anoyying the site would be if it became really popular, and had thousands of members with swear words as their names.

That's not a really pressing problem at the moment, methinks... :-(

Yeah, the key word there was 'if'.

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    Sander - 12.06.2005, 02:34

How about a "Goodbye" forum...? :-(

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 12.06.2005, 03:09

how about a 'horny naked men and woman' forum.

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    Elegantly Evil - 18.06.2005, 11:24

How about people just fucking post more..

newbies aren't going to come here if there are never any new threads or posts

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 18.06.2005, 12:22

Now now, you arent allowed to tell people to post more, that will just make them come up with lousy excuses.

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    Elegantly Evil - 18.06.2005, 12:34

    I really don't care..I don't have to be nice here..I can be a bitch

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 18.06.2005, 12:38

You don't have to be nice anywhere. Do you really care if someone on the other side of the world thinks you arent noce?

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    Elegantly Evil - 18.06.2005, 12:46

Because I need people to like me

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 18.06.2005, 12:48

Bah, that's stupid, especially if you ever meet any of them :P

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    Elegantly Evil - 18.06.2005, 12:56

It doesn't matter, I need to be liked, if I'm not liked I feel bad :?

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 18.06.2005, 13:03

But if you be fake in order to be liked, if they meet you, and you stop being fake, they may not like you.

That's why I'm a dick to everyone, because I'm a dick in real life.

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    Elegantly Evil - 18.06.2005, 13:09

I am nice in real life though..

    I don't think I act differently online..

If anything I'm probably nicer in real life :P

Re: How about a welcome forum?

    BenDaMan - 18.06.2005, 13:23
