My future(?) in-laws are driving me crazy!
Ok, so here's the story. Maybe I'm overreacting, I dunno.

My boyfriend Mark, had a daughter with a girl (Courtney) in another relationship about 8 years ago. They broke up about a year or so after the baby's birth. Were never married, just dated, blah blah blah.

Perhaps I'm not the expert on stuff like this, but I was always under the impression that when letting the little girl (Ashton) visit her grandparents, the mother would drop the child off, and pick her up later.

    But NO.

Courtney (said with scorn) is invited EVERYWHERE. Birthday's, holidays, get-togethers, dinners, etc. She never just drops the child off, she comes in and stays. For hours.

And ok, maybe I could deal with that, too.

But I walk into his parents' house and everywhere, refrigerator, mantle, walls, there are pictures of her by herself, her w/the child, and HER WITH MARK from when they were dating.

Are there any pictures of me? Nope. Not a single one. Not even in a photo album.

Then, the Christmas before last Mark's brother/sis-in-law came up from Houston. They had just had a baby. Mark's mom carried the baby in, and stopped in front of me to do something, so I started playing with it, making faces, etc.

She then YANKS the baby away, marches him over to Courtney and says, "Here, let's see your Auntie Courtney!!!" :x

For her birthday and for Christmas, she gets loads of gifts from his parents. I get maybe one or two. (Not that I really care, it's just the principle of the matter)

They talk about Courtney all the time. And even when they call, and leave messages, they'll say, "Hey Mark! Are you coming to dinner tonight? Courtney and Ashton will be there!"

It's gotten to the point that I won't go over there if Courtney's there. She's even sent me an e-mail saying how she knows it's probably awkward for me, since his parents treat her more like a daughter-in-law than they do me.

It's just ridiculous. And though Mark and I have been dating for 3 years, I still don't feel comfortable enough to talk to his parents, much less talk to them about something like this.

I'm angry at her, because she knows it's horrible for me, yet she still makes an effort to come to everything. If Mark and I were to break up, regardless if we had children or not, I don't think I'd feel comfortable hanging out with his parents all the time.

But mainly I'm angry at them.

Am I just being a brat, or would this bother you too?

Sorry it was so long. :(

Damn Cassie, I'd say your in-law is a bitch, she obviously wants the old g/f back..

Have you tried talking to her about it? telling her how much it bothers you?

I'd start by giving her a big framed photo of you and Mark for the next borthday/mothers day/christmas

I haven't talked to her about it.

I don't want to be disrespectful, or rude, and I'm afraid that's what I'll end up being. I've avoided going out with them or to their house for a while now, because I'm almost to the point of exploding.

Mark had encouraged me to talk to her, but I'm afraid that will alienate his family further from me.

After the Christmas incident, he told me he spoke with them, but I'm not sure if he did, or if he was just saying that to pacify me.

He says they're afraid that if they don't welcome the ex with open arms, that she'll never let them see the child again.

I think there's a big difference between that fear and how they're treating me, though.

I like Evils idea about the picture maybe a special occasion one..

Oh your not being a brat if I were you I would probably cry everytime I went over there (I've been amazingly emotional lately)

Im really sorry that just sounds like a terrible situation and I feel bad that you have to go through with it.. there is no fear that your boyfriend still holds feelings for this girl like his parents though right?

God Damn cassie, I cant believe you are still dealing with this bullshit shit!!

You need to do one of 2 things:
Either you talk to the old bat or
you have your boyfriend talk to the old bat.

If not, then you kick said boyfriend to the curb.

I wouldnt put up with that shit for a millasecond!!

    fuck that!

If you have boyfriend talk to them, you MUST be there as well, in order
to show that your BF is supporting you on this.

Now, if he is giving you a dont give a shit attatude about it, then dump said boyfriend because he will never back you up and shit will never change.

I cant belive no one has put a stop to this!

You know what, fuck it, dump boy friend and kick the whole
bunch of ass nuggets to the curb!

    evil in-laws indeed.

I can kinda see where they are coming from, that is the fear of never seeing their grandchild. But what they're doing is creepy overkill.

 why don't they just adopt her (Courtney) & be done with it
