One of my mum's friend's newphew has a gaelic (sp) name, and it's pronounced as 'Cove' but it's spelt so retardedly that I can't even remember how to spell it :P

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    jdpd - 26.05.2005, 13:02

Cove? never heard of it. Cobh? Caoimhe?

Is it key-vagh? That would be Caoimhe

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

I just asked mum, she says it's either coamph, or caomph

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    BenDaMan - 26.05.2005, 16:50

Really?! Ha! Suck a dick! hee heheee hee, I can't wait to tell them that their sons name is just a random assortment of letters. :D

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    jdpd - 26.05.2005, 16:53

To get the v sound it would need a bh or an mh in it, that's why I thought Caoimhe, which incidetally is a girls name

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    BenDaMan - 26.05.2005, 17:01

I alomost feel sorry for the kid, then I realise, no I don't. Haha, I hope he goes to Ireland one day, and he thinks people will be able to pronounce his name, and they just laugh at him for trying to be Irish :P

On FF someone was talking about the inscription on her wedding ring....

    tra anois agus go deo

    which translates to

    beach now & for good

    what she should have

    grá anois agus go deo

When will people learn, don't put anything in a foreign language unless you are sure of what it means

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    BenDaMan - 26.05.2005, 17:08

Maybe her husband was sending her a message, beach = bitch.

What does 'grá anois agus go deo' mean?

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    jdpd - 26.05.2005, 17:11

    love now & forever

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    BenDaMan - 26.05.2005, 17:13

Wow, how could you mistake beach for love?

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    jdpd - 26.05.2005, 17:16

trá / grá similar sounding words, I just find it too funny she is wearing that on her ring

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    BenDaMan - 26.05.2005, 17:23

Oh, ok. But even still, you think would do some research into it, especially for a wedding ring, even especially more for your bloody kids name.

I find it hilarious when people think they are being 'cool' or 'trendy' or 'different' when they use another language and they can't get it right.

I'm always curious about chinese character tattoos, do they say stuff like "I'm a tard"

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    BenDaMan - 26.05.2005, 18:00

The only way you would know is if you knew which dialect it was written in.

I've always wondered if Chinese people got tattoos of English words. :P

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    jdpd - 27.05.2005, 12:01

well it seems that the girl made a typo in her post, her ring does say grá, still think it's funnier as trá

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

I don't understand why someone would mark anything in a language they don't know. It's plain stupid.

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

    BenDaMan - 28.05.2005, 08:57

I don't understand why people would make this into a seperate thread.

I'm Irish, my last name is Cody, although I dunno how Irish it is. But it can't be too uncommon, because we have some family friends from Ireland who have the same last name, but no relation. Unless it's more then 6 generations back.

Re: I'd love to go to Ireland.

I'm 50% Irish, 50% Dutch. And I hate the Dutch.

Although, the 50% Irish, I just call that Australian. Even though all my family is descended from Ireland.
