    Hypothetically Speaking..You have a 12yr old son..
and he skips school all the time..
Would you make him go to school?

How would you make him go to school?

Do you think the fact kids don't go to school is the parents fault and responsibility? or the childs?

(yes, I also posted this on the other site..get over it :PI'm interested in people's comments )

I don't know, personally I don't think school is for everyone. I'm about the only person in my family who stayed in school past the age of 12. Even my husband left school when he was 12.

Other than me only one sister finished secondary school & only myself & one niece went to college. (I have 4 bros & 5 sis, 12 nieces & nephews past school leaving age)

But back to the question, I would do my best to get the kid to go to school. It's the parent's responsibilty to make them go. Dragging kicking & screaming didn't work on my brother.

It really confused me at first seeing this here :-P thought I was losing my mind.

I think it's the parent's responsibility to help and encourage kids to go to school (by encourage I include corrective punishment), but if the kid doesn't go despite those efforts there isn't much you can do.

Also, if the kid really doesn''t want to be there, some alternative may be more appropriate like maybe vocational training or the like.

How could a 12 year old kid skip school? He can't very well drive elsewhere... I suppose what I would do would depend on how he's managing to skip.

Not everyone needs to drive to skip school. I did it once when I was about17. Myself, one girl & two guys skipped school, got the bus to the city centre & a train to the beach.

I never skipped school until the final year, and I skipped two weeks straight at one point.

If that was my kid, I'd give him a kick up the arse and tell him to get to school or he gets shipped off to boarding school. And just to keep him in check, I'd tell him that the other guys in there would treat him like a piece of sexual meat.

I did it once & got caught. One stupid idiot of a girl in my class ratted on us. :x

Teacher: That's odd Jane, Martina, Timmy & Gary are out today
Idiot: Oh, they're gone to the beach

I never went to school I was a terrible kid and had alot of drug problems.. I'll tell you what did bring me to school occasionally - when my mom called the cops and they told me I had two choices, school for the day or jail for the day because truancy is illegal in Nebraska.

Im in college now though and never miss a class..I learned my lesson the hard way though .. the really hard way.

Now if I were to be a parent and my kid was disrespecting me I see noooo problem in back handing them! (just kidding, just kidding..maybe)

Why kidding for? I wouldnt be scared to give my kid a whack if he was misbehaving something shocking. The just something to a backhand that no amount of lecturing can achieve.

Yeah I think so too but Im such a push over these days. I can't even discipline my cats..

Hoppy likes to push things off of the kitchen counter to get my attention or wake me up well one night at 3 in the morning she knocked over a glass vase full of water and roses... I heard the crash and got out of bed 20 minutes later to see her standing by scene staring up at me like "what?" I was angry and I screamed at her and swatted just above her tail and she went running, the next morning she hid from me all day it broke my heart...

I don't think I'll ever do anything like that again and so I really don't see how Im going to be able to beat my kids even when I want too.

I hit my cat all the time, because she is fucking braindead. She jumps on the bench and starts licking things, we lock her in the bedroom, we let her out after awhile, she up there right away doing it again.
