Dear Mum, for your viewing pleasure, and at popular demand, I present to you: My punishment. Enjoy.
‘why Recruits should not beg their Amyrlin to become Novices’ (or, ‘when soap opera’s go bad’)
By Jethro
First of all, I don’t have a clue why. This is because the very simple reason that I was never a recruit, and I don’t have any recruits to ask why they would ever think of begging their Mum to become a girly version. Come to think of it, I don’t have any recruits to ask anyways, since he is off line (I cheated a word there, by splitting off from line. Cunning, eh?).
So to get back on topic, why would any recruit want to beg their amyrlin to become a novice? We need to analyse the situation. First, we have a truly desperate recruit here, trying to change occupation. We can see that because he’s begging. For the ease of the typing, we shall name the recruit Toumas. This name is of course only to illustrate the example, and has no connection to existing or non-existing people, characters, dogs, cats, other animals or kitchen furniture. The next person involved is the Amyrlin (hereafter named: Mum), who needs to be able to hear or read, since she would have to endure the begging. There’s a third person involved, but I haven’t found him/her yet, so that’ll have to wait.
Okay, the next step is to determine why the begging was done. We need to know why Toumas was desperate. It could be because of lacking funds, dramatic experience, a love for the MoN or just because he was scared of the eyes of the Master at Arms. Enough reasons, I think.
So, now we need to find a reason for Mum to listen to the begging. This could be because Mum had nothing better to do, or because she like to have people beg her, or because she made an interpretation fault and thought it was a soap opera. Assuming that Mum is not red, or sadistic, we’ll go for the last option. This also means that Toumas looks like a soap opera player (and Mum would be a TV junkie) .
Okay, now is the time to introduce the mysterious third person. I have figured out who it is. I will not reveal his/her secret identity, but we shall further name him/her ‘the Outside Influence’.
Burger King asked me to throw in an ad, so get your ass over to Burger king, and get free sunglasses with each Large or King size menu! (available where offered, no money refund and only as long as they are in stock. We don’t take credit cards or cash.)
Okay, so the answer of why Toumas should not beg his Mum to become a novice should now be know to us. But alas, after this thoughtful analysis (did you know that when you try to make analysis shorter, you end up with…), we’ve come no closer to unravelling the answer. Therefor, I went to several people and places to find the answer, including the Lady of the Lake, the Eye of the World, the Well of Eternal Knowledge, God, the Genie of the Lamp, the Lamp, the Dragon King, me, some random stranger, Merriam Webster Online, my evil twin, Mum, the Browns, Robert Jordan, Michael Jackson and that annoying clock in our backyard. You have a clock in your backyard? Yeah. What for? To know what time it is, silly.
One of those provided me with the answer, and it was not Mum. I let you guess which one it was, but I’ll let out that he/she/it is in the list.
But now is the moment, what is the answer? Why should Toumas not beg his Mum to become a novice? The answer is surprisingly simple! If Toumas were to beg Mum to become a novice, the Mum would think it was a soap opera. As such, she would cheer and yell: ‘You go, girl!’ As a result, Toumas would actually become a novice, with a spear instead of a balloon, and he would feel bad about having a spear instead of a balloon. Therefore, Toumas would fall ever deeper and deeper in a pit of mental darkness, and he would eventually die, leaving no mark on this world. So, to save Toumas, Mum must snap out of it, and let him be a recruit, or make him a full novice and give him balloons. And name him Toumasia.
The End.
