Icons of Rock Tour featuring Killer Queen
Sunday thru Tuesday, July 1-3, 2007
    8pm

The Icons of Rock Summer Tour is coming to Moody Gardens Convention Center featuring the world’s top “Tribute Bands” performing live and showcasing the music and spectacle of Rock’s legendary bands – Queen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. These nationally acclaimed tribute bands are uncanny in their ability to re-create the powerful look and sound of their iconic idols. Each band’s live rock concert, complete with state of the art sound and lighting, delivers an experience that takes you back to front row center for the glory days of rock. This summer Freddie Mercury, Bon Scott, John Bonham, Keith Moon and John Lennon are alive again and reunited with their original band mates through the extraordinary portrayal of some of the world’s top musicians and entertainers.

The genesis of this concert series came from a focus group consisting of the Moody Gardens Hotel GM’s teenaged daughters and their friends who treasured the movie, The School of Rock. Jack Black introduced them to the timeless music of the greatest rock icons of the 60’s and 70’s. Today these groups are in the midst of a tremendous revival with Queen t-shirts seen in every mall, Led-heads throughout the classrooms and Who classics being downloaded to thousands of I-Pods nationwide. To celebrate this phenomenon, Moody Gardens is creating a family-friendly summer concert series where grandparents, parents, teens and children of all ages can experience the exhilaration of a live rock spectacle.

This young focus group teamed up with a national talent agency and spent many hours researching to find the best tribute bands. The search has led to the booking of the world’s top tribute bands to play in Galveston this summer. Killer Queen (Queen flying in from London, Back in Black (AC/DC) from Dallas, Led Zepagain (Led Zeppelin) from Los Angeles via a Latin American Tour, The Relay (The Who) from Seattle, Revolution (The Beatles) from Los Angeles, and Satisfaction (The Rolling Stones) from (believe it or not) Shreveport, via Las Vegas.

Moody Gardens encourages families to come and relive the thrills of past concerts and create memories and experiences with teens and children alike. Each concert will feature timeless music and great fun and, unlike the aloofness and exclusivity that diminish the aura of today’s name bands, these tribute bands invite all fans to stay after the shows for a meet and greet photo session. Tickets are a bargain with advance ticket sales priced at $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Tickets the day of the concert are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Seating is limited and all the shows are expected to sell out so get your tickets today.

With each concert, Moody Gardens is offering a special Icons of Rock Summer package that includes luxurious overnight accommodations, two adult tickets and two children’s tickets to the concert and two commemorative Icons of Rock concert t-shirts. Packages start at $299.

    Patrick Myers and Killer Queen

The Icons of Rock Summer Tour kicks off with a royal bash July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd as Patrick Myers and Killer Queen present the real live Queen experience recreating the majestic vocals of Freddie Mercury and the singularly regal guitar licks of Brian May. Killer Queen brings the showmanship, the pomp, the style and incredible musicianship that was the hallmark of Queen in concert. Billed as the world’s finest Queen tribute band, this London-based band features Patrick Myers as Freddie Mercury. The London Daily Mail said of Killer Queen, “Patrick Myers’ recreation of Queen’s lead singer is uncanny,” while London’s Mirror Sunday People proclaimed that “Freddie Lives!” Who can resist a live rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody sung by the best Freddie Mercury vocalist in the world? These shows will all sell out so get your tickets early.

Killer Queen is flying in from England for an exclusive engagement at Moody Gardens Convention Center.
