Hi and hello!
I've been pointed in this direction by Dunschi und clubbi and thought it would only be polite to pay you a little visit!
How is everybody? Doing well, I hope?
So, what could I say...
Let's start with a little anecdote:
I discovered one of the downsides of losing weight the other day. When looking for a DVD to rent my ring simply slipped off my finger and dropped on the floor. Fortunately I was able to retrieve it from underneath one of the shelves but just imagine I hadn't noticed!
My boyfriend gave it to me for our One-Year-Anniversary and I hadn't taken it off since. Now I can no longer wear it on any of the ring fingers.
Wow, that really left me gob-smacked! And that's something that hardly ever happens! :D

Indeed. That's all the rage since "The Lord of the Rings"-Trilogy. :D
Or you could just wear it on your middle finger; that's what I did with my ring (of course it's The One Ring, just FYI) when my fingers became too small.

@notion:
But there is concern that not all products work, prompting some to tell the consumers to buy the products which were advertised on radio and tv, because their claims had to be sustained.
Re: For Amarella & friends
notion - 04.05.2005, 20:37

Good morning Dears!
The word of the day comes as a quiz.
Today I will share my word of the day with you.
Here you are:
Your word for 24th August 2005 is
* * * pardon my French * * *
Please choose the correct definition.
a) Excuse my cooking
b) Excuse my bad language
c) Excuse my wife/husband/partner
Re: For Amarella & friends
clubmed - 24.08.2005, 10:31
I would say my bad language, but probably this might be to obviously?
Re: For Amarella & friends
krümel - 24.08.2005, 11:22
Answer b) is the correct one. Perhaps we should add that "bad Language" does not mean speaking with a heavy accent or leaving out many words but using swearwords and being obscene in general. :krümel:
Re: For Amarella & friends
Hatsh - 24.08.2005, 14:22
Krümel is completely right and earns 10 points for his house :)
Here is the definition from One-Word-A-Day:
Definition:
b) Excuse my bad language
German translation:
Verzeihen Sie meine Ausdrucksweise
Sample text:
"Pardon my French, but if that supplier doesn't accept our delivery terms, he can kiss my ass."
Did you know?
The comedian John Cleese once made the remark that for the past 1,000 years "The English and the French have been in a constant state of war, except for a few short periods of peace."
In Britain it is a national pastime to criticise and make jokes about foreigners, the French being our closest neighbour are no exception.
To say "pardon my French" is to say that you are about to behave rudely, as a French person would (i.e. you are about to say something not for the ears of polite company.
Here are some additional English phrases which use the word French:
French door = die Fenstertür
French horn = das Waldhorn
French fries pl. [Amer.] = die Pommes frites
French leave = to be absent without leave = ohne Erlaubnis abwesend
French kiss = der Zungenkuss
