    Wayquay
Wayquay lives up to her name "Swangideed Wayquay"

"Lady Unafraid", living with one foot in the past and one in the present,
with an eye to the future. She retraces steps on the path left by
her Ancestors to bring messages of simplicity, sharing and honor
... a hope for redirecting complicated lives through the medicine of music.

Of Ojibway, Anishnabe descent, Wayquay was raised in rural America.
This progressive musical poet and pioneer set off to New York City
to find herself with a few dollars in her pocket and a 3-D vision.
Soon, she wrote and directed a comedy play at Harlem's Apollo Theatre
and participated in a compilation album and concert to benefit
the Kobe Japanese earthquake survivors. Fast forward, and now,
through song, poetry, "running-her-mouth", speaking engagements
and community and political involvement, she emerges as a unique
and powerful voice. Wayquay's "soulin'" style merges the rhythms
and chants from her Indigenous background with the grooves of blues,
funk, hip-hop, rock, poetry and nature on her compelling first album
"Tribal Grind". Her music and vision, uniquely American,
    has garnered her international recognition.

Wayquay was nominated for five Native American Music Awards
and was a featured performer at the awards ceremony where her video
"Navigate" won the Best Music Video Award. "Navigate"
also won the Best Music Video Award at the 22nd Annual American Indian
Film Festival, was listed on Billboard's Top 15 Videos and has been
featured on "Heartbeat Alaska" and the CNN College Television Network.
"Tribal Grind" the album has been featured on commercial radio
as well as the 35 Airos stations of the Native American Radio Network
and on more than 100 college radio stations.

Songs from "Tribal Grind" appear in Wayquay's feature film debut
"Dreamland", directed by Robert Hein and were presented
by Air Canada for their in-flight music program. Wayquay
was also featured on CNN Worldbeat, CNN's international music program.
She was a guest on "Good Morning Live" in Montreal and was interviewed
by MusiquePlus, who featured her "Navigate" video".
