Hello!
Can you tell me something about 9/KG4??
I think KG4 means "Kampfgeschwader 4". But what means "9"??
I thought 9th group, but in the KG4 there were only 4 groups.
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/Kampfgeschwader/KG4.htm
Maybe someone can help!
Regards, Guni

Hi, Roy
I have informations that the oncle of my grandfather was gunner in a JU-88 A1. It was marked with (5J+GT).
He was in the 9/KG4, but he died on 10.5.1940 by a crash.
The Unit must have existed before 17.5.41?!?

i see what you mean. ive looked again and 9/KG4 only flew the JU88A during 1940. it was the HE111H after that date. i will look some more.
is this your grandfathers uncle?. Gefr F. Strada
i think he was based at Delmenhorst at the time of his death. do you know if thats right?

Hi all,
a roman digit prior to the slash 9./KG4 means the squadron (Staffel)
a arabian digit prior to the slash, example: III./KG4 means the group (Gruppe)

Hi
Yes, Franz Strada was my grandfathers uncle.
I don't know where he was based. The JU88 crashed near "Vijfhuizen", Nederlands.
@Nils: Thanks!

Nils
Cheers for the correction. of course you are right. it was late when i replied and misread the information

good photos.
i think the planes are Dornier 17/215 or DO 217. look too big for 110s.

Gefreiter Franz Strada:
5J + GT flown by Oblt. Friedrich Karl Rinck, 26 yrs old from Stralsund Pommern (I met him a long time ago before his death at the WW2 Airwar Museum in nearby Heemskerk !!), observer 20 yrs old Gefr. Franz Strada born in Krumman Sudetengau, marconist Ofw. Wilhelm Ruther, 27 yrs old from Salzhausen/Winsen and gunner Gefr. Ferdinand Wissing 23 yrs old from Rhede.
Their a/c was shot down by a Dutch Fokker D-XX1. I have some pictures of the crew and the a/c in a book Fliegerhorst Schiphol by Ab A. Jansen

they were shot down in the attack on Schipol, so could not have been based there.

did Karl Rinck confirm being shot down by the fokker? i have only found unconfirmed reports. i would be interested to know the truth..
i am unfamiliar with "marconist" is that a radio operator?

Roy,
He confirms being hit by a fighter and made a crashlanding. A marconist is indeed the radio operator.

the only one idea I have is, to ask the WASt (Deutsche Dienststelle) in Berlin. Here are all documents of german soldiers of WWII archived.
Here the link to the WASt: http://www.dd-wast.de/
I have ask here for the data of my grandfather. After eight weeks I have received the documents...
All documents who was saved during and after the war are here available

Hi all!
I've got another question, especially to Paul!
Do you know, if Strada was first in KG 3, and if he came later to Rinck?
Someone have a uniform of a Franz Strada, but it's from KG3. It must be a big coincidence (is it the right word?), when there are 2 Gefreite Franz Strada!?
